All this talk of "jinxing" the team is nonsense. I know we have had 2 decades of evidence to support our collective expectation of failure but it's time to buy in to this team 100% and believe it's going to win every night.
This team turned a corner against Dayton i believe and it was evidenced by the wins over Butler and VCU. Let's review:
Butler: trailed the majority of the game and then took a small lead with 11 minutes to play. Missed on several opportunities to make it a 2 maybe even 3 possession game, not because of poor decisions, play calls or execution but because shots just did not fall, it happens. Butler then takes a late lead and no one panics and our go-to scorer simply brings the ball up court to hit a layup to win the game.
VCU: get out on a couple nice leads in the first half and weather a few storms from a really, really good team in their building to put up a 9 point half time lead. Come out in the 2nd half and take a haymaker of a 20-2 run and instead of wilting, stay composed and stick with the game plan and re-take the lead with our own run and ultimately seal the deal at the free throw line.
Listen to this team after the games, they say everything you want a good team to say, they expect to win, they aren't surprised when they win, they respect their opponent and recognize they need to work hard every night, every play. They say the same things Doc G says even when he's not around.
The players are bought in 100%, it's time for the fans, alums and students to do the same. I may sound like a kkok, but if everyone in the building believes, that energy can be felt by the team and they are going to feed off it. When everyone in the stands is just waiting for the bottom to fall out, the team starts to sense that and is going to be the same way.
Get on board, we CAN'T jinx this team, that aprt of LS hoops is over, it's a new era and it's time to enjoy it.
