From 24/7 Maryland Site
Scoop: Mark Turgeon interviewed former Indiana and Louisville assistant Kenny Johnson for his staff vacancy today. Johnson's a Maryland alum and local recruiting ace working at LaSalle after the Louisville/Rick Pitino purge. Would be a strong hire. More: 247sports.com/college/maryla…

Not sure how to react to this. Either he was hired for a short term stint at LaSalle while the recruiting scandal blew over. Or, Ash will be disappointed by this and it will be a setback. My guess is the former. Will be interested if anyone has the inside scoop on this.

Ash would be naïve to think Johnson would not be a short term hire. He would not stick at this level. Still I would think 2 years would be more in order.

can I freak everyone out by asking if he’ll take recruits with him?! Maryland has at most 1 left and they might want a grad transfer. They are talking about redshirting an incoming recruit.

Depending on who gets Michigan get Qaddi Washington (think that is his name). Yaklich will be retained or go with Beilein to the Cavs. If Qaddi doesn't go to NBA or get retained scoop him up. Might be only a 1 or 2 yr stint (someone else in a power conference would scoop him up next year). Worth it.

Not sure I'd want a local person. The Philly kids seem inclined to not want to stay in the city. Someone with regional connections might be best.

took a quick skim through it hard to get past all the f-bombs...like reading the script for Pulp Fiction. Also some inaccuracies in the article that make me question the whole thing - for example - he lists Brian Daly as a Markward Award winner for 1989. It was actually 1988 (he graduated a year ahead of me at Bonner). Eddie Malloy (played for O'Hara, Textile, and now an NBA ref) won it in 89. A 10 second Google search could help with his article research.

We already hired someone listed in this article. We have the local angle covered. Gotta be someone from outside the area.

Ash, Donnie, and Kyle already have the area pretty well covered. Get someone with other ties - whether it be the DC area, random areas (Harris Adler had a lot of strange ties but it landed guys like DJ Peterson), or a guy with strong international ties.

I’d be down with getting someone from and wired into the DMV scene. If Johnson goes to MD we won’t be competing over the same guys. MD would not chase an Ayinde but we would for instance. There are plenty of guys like that from that region
