My guess is whomever went from a starter to only playing less than 3mins in your last game is a good indicator on who it is The guy is 4th on the team in minutes played and 2nd on the team in points scored and you have him making the major life decision to transfer and sit out a year based on one game in which his minutes were restricted. This is a ridiculous analysis. Have you heard of early graduate in the summer and leave and play immediately with 2 years to play?? La Salle is turning into a Defensive program and he is a offensive player...Ash can't fit a square peg into a round hole..

Whoa, vital you really shocked me by saying " La Salle is turning into a Defensive program..." I am struggling with the offensive system. I asked if anyone could explain to me how we looked anything like Nova's system and so far no one has responded to help me. Now I'm hearing we are turning into a "defensive program." I am really befuddled. If we are then we are starting at the bottom. I guess it's the tear it down and rebuild. We are nearly at the bottom of all the Kenpom defensive metrics (my favorite is opponent average possession is something like 15.9 seconds which is in the 320's). I thought I knew the game a little but now I am not so sure. Let me conclude by saying I never said Ashley should be fired. Never even thought about that. Should he receive criticism for this start? Absolutely. I have supported. I will support him.

There are no square pegs in basketball... just 2 round holes.

I think that means a scholarship would be needed, and someone would have to leave school after this semester ends...unless he's paying his own way in the spring and waiting for a player to leave at the end of the spring semester.

I dont think we're evolving into any particular system, not yet, at least. Mission Numero Uno is flipping this roster over - it's unpopular to say, but it's the hard truth. Our style of play is going to be a mixed bag until then, but we better be installing a culture of defense and hustle in the interim - god knows we need it - the system can come later.

I want to see if what you are saying I'm hearing correctly. So you agree there is little to no system right now. We are just biding time to flip the roster. That takes times but is a complete disservice to the younger players of which there are plenty. Not to mention the fans who support this program. The younger players should be in a system right now so (a) they learn it and (b) we can showcase it to recruits. I agree about the culture. I see hustle but I don't see defense. Whatever offensive system we are using is below average. "If you don't know where you are going any road will do" is an old saying so to speak. Arguing the logic. I don't want to hear this is biding time year. If that's the case many will pack in this year and may come back in the future. Some may not. Want to see development as a team (system) and individually.

JB I agree. Have been saying all of what you are saying in different threads. Am in support of the coach but can point out the flaws and demand improvement in the style of play. Those two are not mutually exclusive.

To a certain extent, I agree with what you're saying, Jellybean. But just because we're probably only seeing shades of what Ash's ideal system would look like doesn't mean he's just pissing players' eligibility down the tubes. I don't think for a second that Ash is just accepting the season for what it's been either - he's not complacent or accepting of this, IMO.
While the truth ain't pretty, we all know - the players and Ash included - that this not Ash's preferred roster. They're all just dealing with the cards they've been dealt: For Ash, that's players that aren't his style recruit, and the players are stuck with a first-year coach that has a different philosophy than the guy that recruited them.
I'm not saying anything you don't already know, but it's difficult on multiple fronts, and I don't think we should be afraid of acknowledging that.

While I am as baffled as everyone else as to why we are not winning, not sure I agree with all the talk about the current players not fitting in to the desired "system". All these players were supposedly recruited by other schools of, at least, the same level of competition, as us. The game is not rocket science. Hard to believe, that there are that many variations of "systems" that, if you are an A10 level player, you should be not able to play to a competitive level at whatever "system" the coach wants to play.

Just because a player is talented and recruited by schools at similar level does not mean they fit all systems. A team that utilizes a system that emphasizes the 3 would not be an ideal fit for someone who can attack the rim but can’t shoot to save their life. Just like you don’t use a finesse stretch big as a bruiser and postup threat because they won’t be effective in that capacity.

Do you guys think you're in the running if G is still there? Can't imagine without the coaching turnover you guys would be winless, and he had great success with those philly transfers of yours.

If you list out the top 10 players of the Giannini era, I have to think atleast half are transfers-back.

Since '12-'13, it feels like most of our key contributors are transfers. BJ - Transfer Pookie - Transfer Price - Transfer Wright - Recruit Duren - Recruit Ramon - Transfer Green - Recruit Harris - Recruit Smith - Recruit Murray - Recruit

Isn't the whole argument flawed though? Sure - half of Giannini's best players were transfers, but few of them experienced anything other than individual success. I don't think we enjoyed 'great success' with Giannini's ability to recruit transfers.

Played his worst game as an Explorer vs Fordham, otherwise, he's probably a 2,000 point scorer. Rebounded, shot the 3, and could've been a stretch 4 had he played 5-7 years later.

I'm not usually a contrarian, but I will say that transfers were a blessing and a curse to G. He hit pay dirt with Pettis, Garland, and Galloway. We went for a nice March run and enjoyed success in a kick-ass A10 conference, not this bullshit we are playing in today.
However, when G had the Sweet 16 goodwill to recruit from, and go get some high school players, he doubled down on transfers with Price and Roberts. Say what you want about Price's scoring numbers, but neither one of those transfers worked out in the win-loss column.
He then tripled down with BJ, Pookie, Henry, Goodman and Carter, and it never led to us getting above 500.
A blessing and a curse. I realize that over the last decade, transfers in college sports have ballooned, probably mirroring the absurd number of transfers in high school athletics.
