Since I started the other two threads and we are getting restless, I will start this new one. I take it as a sign of good luck.
If we look at what Ashley and his staff have done so far I think we can all agree that it is full of surprises. Lots of names and lots of official visits we suddenly find.
I will edit this soon to reflect names that I have gathered and give insights if possible.

I went to Wood for the Diane Mosco Foundation Shootout. First what a first class event and great they could award 6 scholarships to young ladies from St. Hubert's ( Diane's alma mater) and Wood ( two sons attend and husband John is the Boy's HC). I saw Delgreco taking pictures at midcourt.
My main interest was Sanford School's SOPH Nnanna Njoku who we have offered. Hard to tell his height. Some say 6-8. Some say 6-10. Regardless he is a well built young man (230-240 range). Njoku has all the physical tools but what impressed me was his basketball acumen and composure. Imhotep was a huge challenge for his team and him personally. Sanford is playing a tough out of state schedule. They beat Bonner 89-84 recently. Imhotep was without 6-9 JR Elijah Taylor who we are supposedly following. Imhotep defenders would not let Njoku breathe. They were using one defender to be physical and then collapse 1-2 more when he got the ball down low. Sanford had a tough time getting him the ball. He had two violent dunks and a nice 15 footer from the elbow. Went to the line a lot. The boxscore I saw said he was 10-12 but I think it was 11-14. He had 17 points and 7 rebounds. I had him with two blocks.
The part I loved was his composure under tremendous physical (clean) pressure. No yapping. Does his job and back on defense. I like him a lot and see nothing up vast improvement as he plays tougher competition and matures. I think his biggest areas to improve are his hands and rebounding.
I hope to see him in February against St. Benedict's in AC. Glorydays should see him a lot especially against his Sallies.
The other high major player on the Sanford team is 6-6 SF JR Jyare Davis. I thought he was a SR since I saw him a couple of years ago but he's a JR. Spoke to a parent yesterday who said " who's NOT recruiting him?" Supposedly Duke and Kentucky are looking at him. He is a scorer. Not a ball hog. Nice jumper with quick release.
Dave Duda JR is a shooter from Methacton. Really good shooter from distance. His father is assistant at SJU (PA). Going to East Stroudsburg. Methacton upset Neumann Goretti 73-67. Neumann is not as loaded as in years past but they are still very good.
Wood starts 4 SOPH's and a SR. I think their first 3 subs off the bench are SOPH's. Unbelievably young but they are really exciting to watch. They are fast, quick and most can jump out of the building. Daeshon Shephard is maybe 6-4 and reminds you of a poor man's David Thompson from N C State days. Attacks the basket on his drives. His jumper is improving each time you see him.
Jeff Arnold from SJU (PA) was there watching the Imhotep and Wood games. Supposedly the two Wood guards ( Diggins for sure and Shepard I assume) are high on their radar.
For those looking to fill in time until the Eagles, Imhotep plays Roman today at 2pm at Phila Community College.

Slam Dunk to the Beach in DE has a tremendous next couple of days. www.slamdunktothebeach.com is the link. Go to schedule and you can watch the games. I saw Sanford play host Cape Henlopen. It was not much of a contest with Sanford doubling the score for most of the game. Njuko had his way. At one point he was 8-9 from the field. He struggled from the line (1-4) when I was watching. Hustled the whole game. Today has a couple of interesting games. At 1:30 Archbishop Wood plays Bishop Loughlin (NYC). Loughlin has a guard that I believe SJU (PA) is following. The 5:00 game features Westtown ( Noah Collier '20 we are looking at) vs Vermont Academy. Tomorrow has 12:00 Wood vs Our Savior , 3:00 is Sanford vs Bishop Walsh (MD) with 6-8 player going to Virginia Tech and 6:30 Westtown vs. Albany (NY) Academy with top 50 player. Hudson Catholic has the best FR PG in the Country playing.

jb, I gave you a like for mentioning my name.
Janet and I are going to the beach tomorrow AM. My plan is to see Salesianum play Roselle Catholic at Slam Dunk at 130 in person. (Waiting for the next Donte.....) I see that Sanford is scheduled for the next game with Bishop Walsh. I will try to stay and watch Sanford play at least for the first half. (I live like a mile from Sanford so I will get to see the big guy play a couple of times this year.)
If I see a member of the La Salle Coaching staff, I will introduce myself as a 71'er who is still alive and well.

That was against Malvern Prep correct? MP has another super-guard in Deuce Turner who is also 2020. He is averaging 25.1 per game. Any word if La Salle is interested in him? What other offers?

Answered my own question and raising it one. Isn't this Dunphy's last year? Why would he be out recruiting? Or is it just the basketball junkie in him? I'm not sure if this was your question, JB, but I'll ask it. Why are we still recruiting for 2019 if we're out of scholarships? This could be an interesting off-season.

Temple people are asking the same question. Lots want him to just leave. Some think it's ego. Some think he's showing the Temple flag and giving his opinions to the assistants. I believe there was a tweet quoting Ashley said he's looking at another 2019 guard. So maybe there will be another open scholarship. BTW, Temple football supposedly made $6.5 million in buyouts from Collins and Diaz. Wonder how the SJP coach feels today?

If anyone knows dunphy, he doesn't do anything because of his ego. He's one of the most down to earth, humble guys in college basketball. If they don't want him to recruit, do they not want him to coach practice either? Should he just sit on the sidelines and be silent? McKie is taking the reigns from him. It's the program dunphy built. It projects a good image if the head coach is still out helping the program for the future. Shows he's doing it for temple and the temple future and that bond. Not just in it for himself.

Sanford School Nnanna Njuko picked up an offer from Virginia Tech this week.
I think we can eliminated Westtown 2020 PF Noah Collier. Saw an article where he listed the three schools he is receiving the most interest from and three that are coming on strong. La Salle not mentioned. Pitt offered this week.

Absent an unusual long standing relationship I question why any A10 team other than VCU or Dayton would devote energy chasing top 150 players. I think we are better off chasing lower “ranked” players who fit an identified system and locking them down early. We could revisit that if we develop a winning persona for the program and get in the VCU UD zone. We can make the dance without top 150 players. It takes a different work ethic but it can happen. Look at Davidson and Bona for instance

Know kids that early on D1s kept tabs on and they wound up D3. Also, sometimes you stay seen with these kids for the bounce back if they transfer.

Of course you can, but it's not like you are recruiting to fill a football roster. We have 3 +/- spots to fill each year. If Scott, McLeod, Lundy, Bishop etc are on the top of our list, the 150-400 guys will either be treated differently or perceive a difference. If we go guns a blazin for them, we have a better chance to get a verbal early and an early LOI.
We get excited when we hear G, Ash, etc. in the hunt for top 150 talent. Then reality sets in and the players go to the bright lights. If Tom Gola were at LSCHS now, do you think he'd pick us?
All I am saying is that if we got more realistic and locked down the next tier or guys who could trend up into that tier by the end of senior year, we would be better off. Stone was a perfect example of being decisive. Ray may be a bit of a stretch but could prove to pay out. I hope we see more of the Stone commits. Ash got Gillespie before he blew up. This is the same scenario. I think that is better for us. Time will tell. Of course, as the rep (and possibly facilities) of the program improves, we certainly can go more aggressively for better players.

The guy just wants to watch basketball and spend time at the shore. Let him do both and be a voice.

I attended the Inter-Ac Triple-header. Fun time. Nice crowd. Can't beat the prices. $5 admission and $5 for a soda, hot dog and pretzel. Spent more at Delassandro's (awesome) for two cheese steaks to bring home.
Christian Ray had a super all around game. Paper said he had 28 points. I would guess he had 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 1-2 steals. He handles the ball well with either hand. Has maybe the best hands I've seen in a very long time. Old timers can think of Randy Woods and Dallas Philson hands. Super high Basketball IQ. NEVER called for the ball. I'm not sure he took more than 1-2 shots from beyond the arc. Played an inside/outside game. At one point he was the player with the ball milking the clock. Excellent FT shooter.
Okay, in the past i have mentioned my favorite La Salle player was Larry Cannon because of his overall talent and TOUGHNESS. I am not saying Ray is the next Larry Cannon but he does have his toughness. Case in point, he is guarding his man on defense and Penn Charter ran him through a double screen. I didn't see exactly what happened but "stuff" happened. CR obviously did not like it and very quietly walked over to one of the PC players and very quietly told him something like " don't EVER do that again." I think he got his point across. A few plays later, he is standing at mid-court during a free throw attempt when one of the referees quietly came over and stood next to him. I think what the ref said was " get ready for that stuff at the next level." CR just nodded.
I gave Christian Ray my highest honor the "Larry Cannon tough SOB Award".
Second game featured two underclass players I was interested in seeing for the first time.
GA has 6-5 SO Jordan Longino and Malvern Prep had 6-2 JR Deuce Turner. Neither disappointed.
Longino is incredible talent. Big powerful swing who has all the tools. Problem is his supporting cast is not very talented. Longino has to do it all. Malvern dogged him all night. The fact he had 26 is amazing and that he's just a SO is crazy. Maryland Assistant Matt Brady (remember him) was positioned on the baseline during GA's warm ups so he could be seen. Phil Martelli was there too. La Salle supposedly has offered.
Deuce Turner (6-2) from Malvern is another talented guard. Malvern plays four guards and one 6-6 big (Fran Oschell 2021 with 23). Turner is one of the wing guards but has the skill set to handle the point. MP has a fine lead guard in Rahdir Hicks.
Deuce had 24 points in basically three quarters because the outcome was never in doubt. What I found interesting is that Turner must have had 6 layups before he took an outside shot. He slashed to the basket, took a couple of long passes and a back door cut. In the third quarter, I was still waiting for him to show off his jumper. I didn't have to wait long. He stroked a three which hit nothing but net. Nice. Next time down he pulls up straight on from NBA distance and does the same thing. Impressive.
I was pleased to see 88's message that we offered yesterday.

JB, great news on CR. If he grows an inch, he’d be at Cannon’s height so you could be on to something.
Turner sounds interesting. I don’t recall us getting a Malvern commit other than Dunphy. What AAU team does Turner play for?
