Very surprising commitment given our lack of scholarships. Not one of the higher end guys we had hoped for but Malik Wayans was complaining the Philly schools were not recruiting him hard. He loves the kid.

I don't get it. He's An undersized 2 star wing. We just chased off a 2 star 6'7" wing. Smacks of desperation.

Right. I'm going to give Howard a full cycle to build a roster rather than take each signing as its own deal. We know what program he's coming from.

(And also, who gives a shit about stars if its between 2 and 3? We've seen for two decades that doesn't matter.)

Have to let Ash build his team. We wanted him to be our coach and we owe it to him to trust his judgement. There are many intangibles You need to build a winning program. This kid does a lot on the court to win games from what I have read.

To the two posts above, my review "smacks of the facts". If our top targets were Seth Lundy, Donta Scott, Naheen McLeod and Zac Crisler, provide readers with some facts as to why this signing excites you instead of one of the 4 top targets. The scouting report on Ray at The City of Basketball Love says the following: " A physical wing - Ray is stuck somewhere between positions - he doesn't quite have the guard skills/mobility of a shooting guard or the typical length /attacking skills of a wing".

While we all aspire to La Salle signing nothing but 4 star recruits, how many have we actually signed over the years? Shoot for the stars, but if a scrappy player with the right attitude and a winning background wants to sign with us then why not go for it?

I'm just gonna say Howard has a feel on this one. His first recruit is gonna mean something to him and reading that COBL article it sounds like he pulled out all the stops to make it known to Christian that he wanted him here. I'm willing to go pure fanboy and get excited about him and trust in Ash. Welcome Christian!

As he grows I think he has the makings size wise of being a matchup nightmare. Maybe this is a recruitment of a guy looking forward to his sophomore/junior years. Get him in the weight room and working with the staff for a year or two and who knows

My concern with G’s recruits was a lack of toughness. Nova always grabs tough kids. Ash was a part of it and that combined what I read about his intangibles smells like toughness.
I will say if we don’t get one of the 4 guys mentioned on a previous thread I will be a bit disappointed.

Attitude is very important when trying to build a program.

So we're going to do the same dumb shit we did with Giannini, huh? Step 1: Get linked to a top 100-ish kid. Step 2a: Sign someone else, we totally blew it because we would have had that other kid!!! Step 2b: Don't sign someone else, top 100-ish kid signs at the major level, why the hell did we hold a spot for a longshot we knew wouldn't come anyway???

National recruiting analysts now chiming in and love the kid. Eric Bossi said he was one of his favorites this summer and loved watching him. “winning ball player”.

gut feeling tells me that ash will sign three kids in the early signing period despite tehnically only having two to give. these things have a way of working themselves out.
thought hart or knox would be the wing recruit to commit but the staff ended up taking ray. based on the cobl article, they had been keeping close tabs on him for a long time so this isn't even remotely close to a desperation move.
hoping for two more early commits by late october with one coming from a big man and the other from either their #1 priority donta scott or one of the very good point guards they're recruiting.
nealum, here's a fact for you. ash has forgotten more about basketball than you've ever known. i'll trust his judgement on this one.

Everything I read says he could be a foundation player and is one of those players who flew under the radar. I’m also in. Good get coach Howard.

Same basic size and game as an undervalued former Wildcat that was a lottery pick recently.
‘Gets buckets. Gets up’ is how he was described to me.

I think its great that others have posted opinions and facts different than mine on this recruit. When we post well intentioned opinions along with facts, it educates the other members of the board and increases our knowledge of the LaSalle program. But when we insult others just because they have a difference of opinion or we just don't like the facts they present, as diehardexplorer has done to me in his post above, it diminishes the quality of the board and the credibility of the person making the insult.

Publicly admonishing both a new coach and a high school student who just made the biggest decision of his life diminishes the quality of the board. You have no idea the thinking behind anything that goes on with recruiting.

Publicly admonishing both a new coach and a high school student who just made the biggest decision of his life diminishes the quality of the board. Old coach and existing players are still fair game though, right? If someone wants to take umbrage with the way someone played or the way a coach coached, that's fine. Dinging a brand new coach for signing a player that has been lauded by some in the know on social media is both silly and unhelpful.
