It is clearly just me, but I really don't care about any of this.

I actually could care less about how Pitino positions himself to claw back part of the contract he doesn’t deserve. Imo that line is more likely to backfire on him.
The bigger the program the bigger the problem
If you want to get moral Duren, talk about Ohio State. They have serious Clery and Tilte IX issues but have “sanctioned the Coach an AD” in hopes the NCAA doesn’t intervene. They won’t and the Big 10 won’t just like what happened with MSU. Meyer is “on leave” but he can coach practices etc except for game day the next two games. Of course he gets to come back in time for a warmup game with Tulane before the big game at Penn State.

Pretty powerful few lines:
It's just that every school couldn't hire Kenny Johnson this year. Most stayed away. La Salle is trying to move up in the college hoops world after just one NCAA appearance in a quarter-century. Hiring Howard, top assistant on Villanova's 2018 NCAA title team, was a big coup. Howard, who had moved up the assistant ranks as Johnson had, decided that Johnson was worth going to bat for. La Salle decided the hire was worth the risk.
Given Johnson's reputation as a proven recruiter, Sokolove said, "It's a big come-down for Kenny Johnson and it's a big get for La Salle if everything goes OK." Sokolove added, "La Salle hired him and hoped there wouldn't be any revelations about what he did or didn't do."
Last week was not one of those weeks. Johnson got muddied. So did his new employer.
Then again, half the nonsense Philly.com is riddled with editorial blunders...

I'm fine with that point view and just as fine being in opposition to the type of person who takes that point of view.

This was a terrible risk of a hire and we should have clearly known better.

I don't see the downside you see given the current investigation.

And before you answer, I'd like to remind you that Jay Wright's program has been sanctioned under his watch when like 90% of his team "stole from the university" by using some long distance account.

Either he disclosed this and his earlier clearance was enough or what you said.

Yikes. Doubtful that disclosure of evidence prior to accepting an offer of employment is the norm. I assume the compliance department will be all over this. Hope it works out.

Really Joe??? Editing my post because I said I hope Johnson shouldn't be kept off the bench for one past mistake? Are you that sensitive that you will censor quips that conflict with your politics? Sad.

My edit didn’t change your post at all. Added nothing. No tolerance on any political comments. Take it to the other board.

I think we should keep Johnson. He made a mistake that if he refused to make would have cost him his job. He hasn't been charged and I don't believe it's a crime anyway. It's an NCAA violation. As if that group has been covering itself in glory. The power 5 schools are now allowed to give inflated amounts for cost of attendance which the NCAA condones. With all the major violations that schools and head coaches have gotten away with, firing Johnson for what he allegedly did is ludicrous. I'm happy to have him and I hope it works out for him.

If he hadn’t disclosed this to La Salle, then it’s a dealbreaker in my opinion. If he had, I think you respect the decision Howard and company made at the time, with full knowledge.

Our name just popped up in an AP article about a criminal trial involving paying NCAA athletes. We hired a guy who came from arguably the sleaziest program in the country. On top of straight up paying players, they also hired strippers to hang out in college dorms and were fine with Rick Pitino continuing as coach despite having intercourse in an Italian restaurant and a resulting blackmail saga.
Why are we touching anyone from that program? Innocent/forced to obey the behest of his boss or not, I want nothing to do with any of this.

Its a matter of whether you think what he did was unique or something that would be attached to many major conference assistants who just haven't been named. Semi-akin to PEDs in baseball, does anyone really think the guys who got caught aren't like 5% of the population that actually did it?

Weston 2. I think the assumption is that he won't keep sinning here. He did what was acceptable at his prior employer. If that is unacceptable here, then why not give him another chance.
