this thread aged well Actually it planned out as I expected. We took a chance but protected the downside with contract terms. We made headway in the DMV and WCAC thanks to Kenny and hopefully Ash can keep the pipeline flowing. It’s obvious there is not pursuit of Kenny for now for a 1,300 violation I am sure they knew of two years ago. They are going after Pitino being back in the game and casting the net for people lower to flip. Kenny is collateral damage. Sad for him because he was doing a good job, but this this the way the game plays and this was always possible so there you have it.

He did really well with
Sherif 4 * Ayinde 3 Tegra 3 Anwar 2
I’m sure his Indiana experience led a hand with Moore 4*
Pretty good body of work for 2 years. I think he also helped develop toughness on the team
Solid work that will be missed

Pretty good body of work for 2 years. I agree and I'm sad that he's not going to be working that DC/Baltimore market anymore. My guess is there was a little more smoke than was initially disclosed in the hiring process so they had to cut bait. He was also hired under a different AD.

We assume there's no buyout here, correct?

We assume there's no buyout here, correct? Only to Bowen Sr. Actually...it was probably legally a smart move for Kenny. Since this is an NCAA investigation and not a criminal investigation, and he is now no longer employed by an NCAA institution, he is now no longer required to talk to the NCAA about the things that happened at Louisville and implicate himself in any way.

What do we know for a fact in this regard ? If Kenny Johnson was indeed the " secret sauce ", now that he has left La Salle, what, if anything, does that portend going forward regarding our retention of the players he recruited ?

I’m not saying or implying that Kenny was solely responsible for bringing the DMV players in. But he did have a great DMV network of connections and hopefully Ash can build on that since it is a great recruiting ground.
Recruiting and retention is a team effort and a two way street. The players pick a school based on the whole of the program in most cases, with some exceptions usually in the case of a head coaching relationship. I can’t guarantee it but I’d bet that he was not a secret sauce kind of guy and that the players will stay as long as they get the PT they think they deserve and are happy. I think Ash has done a good job vis a vis the Portal and should continue to do so.

The "average paying student" doesn't generate revenue for the university. As a parent of 3 kids who will soon start college, this statement gets my blood pressure up. Because my wife and I graduated from a fine institution like La Salle, and have worked hard to utilize our education to have a decent 2-parent upper middle class income, we will have the pleasure of potentially sending kids to places like Cornell, 'Nova, or Notre Dame, and we might expect to pay full tuition without financial aid. Is the $250-300,000 tuition, room and board, and fees over four years not "revenue" for the University? Even if a kid does get some aid, a lot of kids are taking out loans to pay tuition. Almost every student generates tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenue for a University. And graduate students? Many graduate students teach classes for the benefit of a free or discounted graduate school tuition. Should they be paid for their work? How about if they spend years doing research that ends up being published under a professor's name?

C'mon, dude, you know what I'm saying. "The average paying customer" generates revenue for a restaurant, they don't generate excess or indirect revenue like having a celebrity dine in for free.

The "average paying student" doesn't generate revenue for the university. According to their tax filings, the "average paying student" generated 83% of La Salle's revenue in 2017-18. projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/231352654/201901059349300010/fullRevenue of $161M. Of that, $118M was tuition and fees. Another $16M was housing and dining services. Let's say there are 4000 students total between undergrad and graduate plus part timers. That means each "average paying student" generates $33,500 in revenue per year for the school. This is why an enrollment decline hits a school like La Salle so hard...enroll 30 fewer students than expected, and you're down a million bucks in revenue.

"The average table of two at a restaurant pays $40 per meal. That's why having less customers means you're down in revenue."
Neither has anything to do with the pretty clearly obvious point I was making above.

Neither has anything to do with the pretty clearly obvious point I was making above. Your statement "The "average paying student" doesn't generate revenue for the university" is factually incorrect. So I can only surmise from your point that you don't understand fairly basic concepts of revenue generation for a university. Also...you may want to brush up on the proper use of "less" versus "fewer". "Fewer customers" dude.

You're right on both counts. On the first, I should have used the term "profit" and on the second I should have used "fewer". I'm still quite sure you got my initial point but I also know you're desperate for a win these days so I want you to know this counts. You did great.

On the first, I should have used the term "profit" . La Salle is a non-profit. But let's look at that...and I'll keep it simple. I'm assuming you mean a basketball program brings profit to the school and that, by extension, basketball players bring more profit to the school than the average student. According to the filings, G received about $825K in compensation that year. Assume average attendance at The Gola is 2200 for 15 games at an average season ticket package of $225 per ticket (high but we'll go with it), we are at $495K (excluding the away team's cut)... well below his compensation. And yes, I know there is revenue there for donations, food sales, merchandise, away game gate revenue, share of tournament revenue from NCAA provided by the conference, etc...but there are also expenses for assistants, trainers, refs, travel, equipment, recruiting expenses, security at games, etc. What's the "profit" then, the average basketball player at La Salle brings to the school...if your argument is that they are generating profit for the school? They actually are generating revenue...assuming 13 scholarship players and the above numbers, they are generating about $38K in revenue...$4.5K more than the "average student" generates... but are likely less profitable when you factor in the expenses to run a program.

Cool link. Looking at Men's basketball, the site shows $3,558,014 in expenses for Men's basketball...and $3,558,014 in revenue. That looks like $0 profit to me for basketball. Attachment DeletedNot sure what the "Not Allocated by Gender / Sport" category is where there is profit of ~$700K. Non-sport specific fundraising like Explorer Fund maybe? Looking at other local schools. St. Joe's generates $6.1M in revenue, Temple $6.5M, Penn $2.0M, Nova $14.4M, Drexel $2.8M. For laughs I checked Fordham - $5M..surprised their basketball revenue is higher than ours.
