Just a hypothetical that crawled into my mind right now.
With no other options, would you rather the 2012-2013 Explorers win the NIT, or get into the NCAA's in the play-in game and lose.
I'm not talking getting bounced in the first round. I'm talking getting in on Sunday night as a 12 seed, playing Tuesday night in Dayton and getting bounced. On the other hand, we could play 5 games, 2 at Madison Square Garden, and win them all.
I think if the question was getting into even the first round of the NCAA's, it's a no-brainer, but with just these 2 choices, which would you prefer?

My opinion is that you have to go with the NCAA tournament one and done.. for recruiting, for alumni interest, national exposure... Millions of casual sports fans fill out brackets, who have never heard of La salle, who will randomly pick them as "their cinderella", just because they have a low seed. Recruits want to play in the NCAA tournament. The whole city gets behind you (depending on what other city 6 teams are in). For the program as a whole, I'll take the one and done. NIT championships are a nice consolation, but it loses its prestige as the years go on.

NCAA.......No questions asked
NIT Championship would be a really fun ride.....
Getting into the the NCAA's would be an Outstanding Moment after having an Outstanding Ride.
Getting into the NCAA would mean La Salle would have had a significant rsuccess. Winning almost all of our games in the regular season here on out or an A-10 Championship or both......
(neumann great hypothetical, always fun to contemplate these scenarios!!!)

I'd lean NCAA as well, although personally I think it would be more fun as a fan to have the NIT run. But it'd be better for the program to have the NCAA appearance on the books.

NCAA tourney no doubt. As far as development goes, a run to the NIT championship would probably mean more for Duren and the younger guys. Look at Minnesotta this year. It doesn't always work that way, but alot of teams who made runs in the NIT come back strong the following year.

You need to get back to the NCAA’s. Profile of the school and the program are raised tremendously with the NCAA exposure, flutie effect. And let’s not forget the all mighty dollar…NCAA hands down.

I prefer winning the entire NIT to getting bounced from the play in game. The prestige of the NIT champion as #69 best in the country is a misnomer. They are really #33-38 and better than most teams that get bounced... However the coach, and any real fan, will tell you that getting bounced is not an option. They will play either one to win.

I too prefer the NCAA's. I actually think if we do get in we avoid the whole First Four scenario because we're either going to be good enough to get in with our resume or we're going to win an incredibly tough A10 tourney. Unless we bomb out a bunch of times the rest of the season and then get a mriacle run in the A10s I don't expect any A10 teams in the First Four.
I see us as a 10 seed out west. No idea why I think that, just a feeling.

I want us in the First Four so when we lose we have a great string of "We can't win with G" posts.
Seriously -- just get in by any means necessary. If we lose in the First Four I do not care one bit. That is still the first tournament appearance since 1991.

Play-in game loss would probably kill me since the play-in is ridiculous. I'd take NIT there, but a real 1st round NCAA loss over and NIT tourney win.

I don't think there's any question about the 2nd part. I think what my thing comes down to is "Is losing in the play-in game really 'in the tournament.'" You're out before anyone even fills in a bracket.

I would take the NIT win rather than an NCAA play in game loss. I agree with the ride. The additional games would include a couple of additional home wins.

You're out before anyone even fills in a bracket. Right. Not making it to Thursday, in my mind, is the same as not making the tournament. Those play-ins are like an audition to get in, not a true start of the tourney.

I bet if you ask anyone who was there in 1987 and they would tell you NIT.
Just a hunch.

NCAA. Stop the drought. Gain respect. "Be relevant". Shut up a great deal of people.
There are a four of "play-in" games. Two involve 11th seeds which really stinks. Still I would rather be in the NCAAs.
The NIT run in 1987 was tremendous. Experiencing that again would be great IF we don't get an NCAA bid.

Our administrator is trying to figure out how long it would take for his brain to explode if La Salle was celebrating on the MSG logo. I too would go play-in but I'd be pissed to be in that play-in game honestly

Butler didn't become a household name playing in the NIT. Dayton won the NIT like three years ago and all they are is a middle of the pack A-10 team for the last decade. We have to find a way to become a NCAA regular. It's the only way to build and maintain a quality program.

To me it's like making a choice about playing golf at St Andrews or the Masters..both nice courses but one is much more mystical , historical, etc. Either would be a treat.
