I know I'm not supposed to laugh at this, but I can't help it. If you are going to have a sensationalist headline like "students turn up the heat" and then show a picture of 12 people "protesting", how can your readers not laugh? It literally may be the saddest looking protest I've ever seen. I've seen more people waiting at the bus stop at 20th and Olney than were in attendance for this protest rally. whyy.org/segments/la-salle-students-turn-up-heat-in-protesting-university-art-sale/

Actual, real Letter to the Editor in this Morning's Phila. Inquirer. Gives one a pretty good idea as to the relative level of sophistication of their average reader. Attachment Deleted

Interesting read - particularly the divide this is creating between faculty and administration. While I had heard rumblings about this distrust when the decision was first announced, seeing it codified now multiple times is concerning. When this starts to happen, every decision of the administration will be looked upon with skepticism. That's not a healthy environment for the school (or any work setting).

So stupid. Good thing every department is going to waste words on a way-too-long letter saying the same crap as everyone else. Atleast the History Department can go collect their individual participation trophy now.
Here's a take - how about regurgitating the same complaints over four pages of repetitive gibberish, someone tells La Salle where to find the millions of dollars instead? Everyone loves bitching but no body has any solutions.

Everyone loves bitching but no body has any solutions. Should start by taking a hard look at the History department. This all screams to be a resistance from some professors longing for the ‘good old days.’

Yeah, I mean I totally get people being opposed to the sale, but don't they need to at least concede it was done for a justifiable reason? It's not being done to buy a new gold-plated desk for the President or something. The school's got financial problems, they're trying to come up with solutions to them that don't hurt students or learning.

Yeah, I mean I totally get people being opposed to the sale, but don't they need to at least concede it was done for a justifiable reason?. So, if the money we’ve donated to the Jellybean Challenge is determined to be better suited for another, more important need (as determined by the President and BOT) than basketball, we should be okay with that because it’s a justifiable reason even though that is not what we intended our donations to fund? People who have donated art and money through the Art Angels program over the years have every reason to question whether their future donations (if any) will be used as intended.

Find in my post where I said everyone has to be OK with it. I literally said (and you quoted) that I get why people would be opposed.

Everyone - please ignore the fact that this board is the place where we regurgitate the same complaints over much more than four pages on countless threads instead of telling La Salle where to find the dollars for G's buyout.

Yeah, I can appreciate the irony there. Doesn't make this History Department any less of a group of whiny losers though - they all deserve to be kicked in the shins for wasting my time.

Are you saying Brother Ed Sheehy is a whiny loser and should be kicked in the shins? He's in the history department.

He is hardly the only person that teaches under the history department. well...you did say "they all" What is your point - other than being a smart ass? I didn't make this about individuals, but you're assuming that I have some undying loyalty or respect for Ed Sheehy, as if that would change my opinion. News flash - it doesn't. This Faculty-Senate-regurgitated letter is also signed by the other 9 tenured History Department faculty members, and this is no more or less him than it is them - and just because he wears a collar doesn't mean I'm going to bow down to him. Don't make this out as if I have beef with him or I don't respect him. This is so stupid. I don't care if the Pope signed the letter, I don't agree with them releasing it for multiple reasons. I respect that they have the right to disagree, but that's it. And I know where you fall on this issue - you've made that clear - and I'm not setting out to change your opinion either, so don't expect you'll change mine.

My point was kind of being a smart-ass...so point made. I'm not assuming anything. But if you call out a whole group of people, then, by default, that means the individuals in that group.

You still haven't made a point, though. Should Ed Sheehy's inclusion cause that letter to carry more weight?

You still haven't made a point, though. Should Ed Sheehy's inclusion cause that letter to carry more weight? No. That wasn't what I said. You were talking about bodily harm being inflicted on every member of the history department for their beliefs, and I wondered if that also included, in your mind, a man of the cloth.

I was asking if that was your point.
You know it was sarcasm. I said 'kicked in the shins' for god sakes. Do you feel better now? Can I get you a participation trophy too?
Inflicting bodily harm. Give me a break, you're over-the-top.

Give me a break, you're over-the-top. getting kicked in the shins hurts...hence shin-guards in soccer yes...I know it was sarcasm. I'm not in to participation trophies. As I tell my kids....second place just means you were the top loser and you have brought shame and disgrace to our family name through your failure.

OK the good news is our "Explorertown Wrestlemania" card is really starting to take shape. We've got Glitterbro against DurenDuren in a Ladder match (with the art that's for sale suspended above the ring for someone to retrieve), and me against the guy who called me "Internet Tough Guy" a few weeks ago (with AngryAl in his corner) as some key undercard matches.
All leading up to the Main Event, years in the making- Mister D. against Joe Fed.

DurenDuren will be in for a long night if we also sanction his match with Bobby Johnson, as CoachD has been promoting for months. Perhaps a Battle Royale or steel cage match would kill two birds with one stone?

CoachD versus Explorer Steve in a "Totally Not the Same Guy" match. Now this is the match I want to see. It calls to mind the James McAvoy's character in M Night Shyamalan's movie, Split.

It's hilarious that 'me versus Bobby Johnson' became a thing solely because I wasn't about to blindly get on my knees and salivate over his every word like half of you because he used to play for us. I mean, Christ - Steve got so weird he needs to be told to stay 500 feet away at all times.
While I respect him and his son's contributions, I don't give two shits about that if you come on this forum & spew an opinion that I think is wrong, and I'm sure as hell not going to let the ties or history stop me from talking about it. I don't have any beef with him, I just wasn't about to give him a free pass on everything because of his connections. Half of this place couldn't get off his nuts.
