I recommend this fascinating documentary film that premiered last night for you to watch while social distancing at home : " The Scheme " -- 2020 HBO Documentary ( initial release : 3/31/2020 ) -- 2 hours long Examines player agent Christian Dawkins role at the center of the FBI's two year undercover investigation that exposed a plot to bribe NCAA Div.I assistant college basketball coaches to steer players to a management company run by the 26-year old Dawkins. Four assistant coaches were arrested , involving universities that included USC, Arizona, Auburn and Oklahoma State. None of the head coaches who were seemingly implicated by the FBI's undercover / wire-tapped telephone recordings and surveillance tapes were ever arrested or charged. The lingering question remains : why not ? There is corruption on all levels. A few people will take the fall but no head coaches or colleges will be charged (too big to fail?)...even the NCAA (joke of an organization) does nothing. Victimless crimes,.. oh well,....why did they bother. Colleges have sold out to the almighty entertainment dollar. Doesn't matter how you get there, we can always plea.....we didn't know, seems to work.....Sgt Schultz defense. Feds get a conviction, lower level, easier....but they don't go far enough... that's the why .. who's protecting who and.... the possible corruptness on that aspect. Another sort of networking.

Here we go again... Louisville hit with NCAA notice of allegationswww.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/29132861/louisville-hit-ncaa-notice-allegationsFormer assistant coaches Kenny Johnson and Jordan Fair are also accused of providing impermissible benefits and transportation and having impermissible contact with a recruit.
Johnson, now an assistant coach at La Salle, is accused of "knowingly" providing a $1,300 extra benefit to Bowen. The NCAA alleges that Pitino, whom Louisville fired in October 2017, "violated head coach responsibility legislation when he failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the men's basketball program."

don't have time to go looking for it, but per adam zagoria when this first broke, kenny johnson denied doing it. so it's his word against bowen sr who may be one of the shadiest characters out there. he tried to fleece money out of multiple programs. all of this for a two way g league player who could only get on an nba floor for 5 games last year. explorertown.proboards.com/thread/3092/yay-yikes?q=zagoria

At least it was all worth it for all the huge wins the last couple years … not to mention the readily discernible upgrade in our recruiting pipeline to ( national / AAU ) 3-star and 4-star recruits.

Venn diagram of people who liked this current freshman class and the incoming one but will also trash Johnson's recruiting efforts as insignificant.

I wish Johnson all the best. Despite the criticism he didn't do anything that any other Power 5 assistant doesn't do. The entire system stinks. The top kids and their people are getting paid and the assistants and shoe companies'jobs are to pass on the payments and insulate the head coach. I'll pass on the holier than thou talk since Johnson did what he had to do to keep his job. If you want to survive in big time football and basketball, this is part of the unofficial job description.

Maybe this will be his chance to serve as the 2nd or 3rd assistant and gain valuable experience.

what's weird is that over 2 years later, you've still got an agenda against la salle hiring ashley howard instead of tim legler.
maybe you should ask yourself why tim legler still doesn't have a job coaching basketball. not even at the high school level. maybe you should ask yourself why tim legler's name never comes up when any open college basketball coaching positions become available.
and yet you still hold onto the misguided notion that la salle should have handed him the men's head basketball coaching job.
that's weird.
i won't bring it up again.

I feel like this coaching move deserved it's own thread. I don't know how to take this, Kenny was a level of recruiter that generally we don't land at La Salle. However, I do believe many schools do things the "right" way, and I believe in La Salle's pursuit in doing this the "right" way.
I also believe in second chances, but I understand the negative pub that Kenny Johnson could bring to the program. This isn't a good h thing though.

I’m sure he’ll get a second chance. I certainly think he deserves one. But I think it’s not just a D1 assistant to D1 assistant chance. I think it’ll be out of the spotlight (I know La Salle’s isn’t big. But still fairly public image) and go to D2-D3, JUCO, AAU or something. Let everyone forget. And come back in 3-5 years with at least a repaired image and one that’s hirable. I don’t think his offenses are nearly as bad as Jerome Allen and won’t warrant the same punishment, within 5-7 years he’ll be back at a P5 school.
