Every year I organize a trip to the SJU game with about 15 fellow graduates. We all have decent jobs, but on the email exchange we were all having, someone brought up the point: "are tickets really $35?" I dont mind paying that much, as I use any chance I get to do shots of whiskey before noon at the New Deck, but I agree it is a bit much for those that dont have a real rooting interest.
What are your thoughts? I dont think the game was even sold out last year. Would a lower ticket price pack the place?

I think it's been $30 for several years, as long as I can remember. An increase to $35 was inevitable. It'll be sold out this year, no doubt about it.

It was pretty crowded last year. The box score says 8,722, so it was indeed a sellout. The palestra is very expensive overhead, that's all I know.
Still hurts to think about the many missed chances in that game. We beat them 30-3 from beyond the arc and still lost, burying ourselves by 9 at halftime. I thought we were a much better team but the individual performances by Halil and their bigs killed us, outscoring our bigs by a combined 44-9! Still, almiller blamed galloway for the loss which I took very much offense to. but you can see St Joe's neutralized our three bigs and that alone caused them to get the win.

The same situation will play out again this year. Their bigs against our guards. Who will have the better game? The answer to that question will give you your winner for this year.

We can't give up 22 layups and free throws like we did last year. it was sad to watch. Explorer88 saw it unraveling before us and I refused to acknowledge it because we were the better team and I thought we would overcome the hawk given 10 chances we would have won 7 of them. I downplayed the painful loss last year but this year, I will try to call it straight. We MUST WIN. We can't play them basket for basket like we did in 2008. We need to shut them down on the defense side of the ball.

1801, I walked up last minute to the St. Joe's game last year at the Palestra. I sat in the next-to-last row in the corner and paid $35. I couldn't believe it when the dude at the ticket window said it was $35.

so good seats are what, $50?
$88 to $195 on stubhub right now. Those are not even good seats. The scalpers can eat it. No one will pay those prices for no good seats when it only costs $35 to get into the building

I couldn't believe it when the dude at the ticket window said it was $35. All non-chairbacks are $35. To pay $35 for a corner seat is ridiculous. Last year there was a group of high school students/players and their "handlers" in our seats when we arrived. We explained that they were in our seats. Their response was that they got free tickets and "its all general admission", which we explained was wrong. They got up and moved a few rows back to someone else's empty seats. Game may have been a "sell out" but there were empty rows.

St Joe's didn't neutralize our bigs near as much as Joe DeMayo and DJ Carstensen did. Devon and Jerrell were called for 9 fouls in a combined 23 minutes (White fouled out). Kanecevic, Roberts and Aiken combined committed 4 fouls in 80 minutes. I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. I watched the tape the next day and the calls/non-calls were even worse than I remembered them being while watching the game. Steve was forced to play 17 minutes, almost double what he averaged for the year. Ramon did not play well. And yet La Salle still had a chance to tie it with a couple seconds left. Officiating will play a huge role in who wins this year's La Salle-St Joe's game. There are a half-dozen refs (including the two I mentioned) we should pray don't get assigned to this game or it will be that much harder to beat them. Poor Butler will probably get to experience being on the short end of a large helping of Hawk home-cooking tonight like Creighton did last year.

Funny because I saw it mentioned on TV during their game with Nova that SJU commits the least amount of fouls than any team in the country. That is incredible and I have to ask how do they get that to happen? I know Aiken is a skilled shot blocker but Roberts and Kanelsevic on their own should put SJU out of the top spot. For a team that plays 3 bigs as much as they do that stat is just perplexing to say the least.

What's worse than a severe foul differential is the parity ref. These are those guys who will let anything go for the trailing team but will call contact on the team with the lead. There are refs that seem so concerned with the fouls being called evenly, I hate that. I believe we earned the foul differential last year by playing undisciplined basketball. Jerrell and Devon didn't jut foul out in one game or two, it was a constant battle. By the end of the season when we started a little winning streak again (@gw, vs. Bonaventure, vs. Richmond) I claimed it was solely due to these guys staying out of foul trouble. We needed them to play for more minutes than either one of them averaged. This year, there is more bench depth than last, and Jerrell seems to be quite more discplined than last season, though there is a way to go in that regard before he becomes the all conference player he is projected to be.

My very strong recollection - and it is indeed very ironic now - is that Halil Kanesevic was the key to their win. Both passing and all round game. Hate to say it, but it was clear to me.

he not only had a double double, he probably had it in one half. one of the better games by any player I have seen.
