Pookie Powell might not be back next year. So if he's not back. Yes I would take a guard to fill that spot. What?

This is nonsense. Pookie isn’t declaring for the NBA and Pookie isn’t transferring having already previously transferred.

Pookie graduated HS in 2013. Entered Memphis in Fall of 2013. Bio there says he did not practice or play. Played 2014-15. Transfered in 2015-16. Played at La Salle in 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. There is the 5 and 4 rule. You have 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility. Question is up to the NCAA if they do or do not count 2013-14 season.

Question is up to the NCAA if they do or do not count 2013-14 season. Division I five-year clock: If you play at a Division I school, you have five-calendar years in which to play four seasons of competition. Your five-year clock starts when you enroll as a full-time student at any college. Thereafter, your clock continues, even if you spend an academic year in residence as a result of transferring; decide to red shirt, if you do not attend school or even if you go part-time during your college career. www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/current/transfer-termsSeems by the letter of that law that he is done. I had no idea about the 2013-14 season.

PHILADELPHIA – Pookie Powell (Orlando, Fla. / Dr. Phillips), who spent one season at Memphis, will transfer to La Salle to play men's basketball, head coach Dr. John Giannini announced today. Powell will sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer regulations and will have three seasons of eligibility beginning in 2016-17. goexplorers.com/news/2015/6/22/MBB_0622155951.aspx

BTW, La Salle can appeal but what's our track record and what set of circumstances are we basing that appeal?

Well that serves me right for jumping to conclusions as if I knew all of the circumstances.

Are you telling my that neither G nor La Salle ever corrected incorrect info on a press release? I find it very hard to believe that their fan base was not duly updated. (That is, if they want to retain a fan base)

By the letter of the law, he is done. But one that could be appealed as he didn't play that first year. It isn't automatic but likely would be won on appeal. Here is the reality: Pookie will graduate and likely does not want to appeal and just move on after 5 years of college. Things could change but it appears he may just move on. Not everyone thinks going to college for 6 years is fun Again, nothing is set in stone but that is why there is some discrepancy as to press releases, NCAA regulations, etc.

And I should take back my "will graduate" statement as I don't know if that is 100%. The other part is definite...he may just want to move on after 5 years of college. He already turned 23 in October FYI. It is really up to him if he wants to appeal or just move on to likely Europe.

Here's a great class of 2018 prospect with no scholarship offers. He is sure as heck deserving of one from La Salle. The Tilton School's Max Zegarowski. 6'7" with a 6'10" wingspan. Great outside shooter, fine inside, with high BB instincts. Would be a true smashup get as Tilton plays against some big name prep schools.

Good lead. I looked at his verbal commits twitter feed and the kid is having a great season, esp. as a 3 point shooter. I did note that Quinnipiac has offered him. Lasalle69bestever.....you should shoot Sean Neal an email (its on the LaSalle U site), as he recruits heavily in the state when the kid is going to school.

If Pookie is done and the coaching staff blew this eligibility question, that speaks volumes.
The only way out of what appears to be an iron clad “no” would be if Pookie was not a full time student in 13-14. Even if successful on this point, PP could move on if he graduates and seek a grad transfer opp or overseas opp.

Based on the article, I don’t think he’s a fit but is someone i would like to have on our team.

I doubt that the school was unaware of his situation. My guess is that they believe that he has a reasonable chance of gaining a 6th year on appeal although the program's record on appeals is not great. One question I would have is if he wins the appeal can he use it to leave as a grad transfer or would it only apply to La Salle. Neither he or the team improved his chances of moving to the next level and next year he will have Carter and an emerging (hopefully) Moultrie playing his position (short guard). Can't play the 3 together for many minutes without getting hurt defensively.
I think that they should be focusing on a combo guard with a little size rather than another big even if he can shoot, especially if Clark will be red-shirting next year because of his injury.

Penn States 125 lb wrestling stud transferred to Rutgers and did not sit out and is wrestling this year. I do know PSU released him out of his comittment. He also transferred within the conference. Don’t know if the rules are different for each sport.
