I’d rather a sit transfer we’ll get 2-3 from than a one and out. Like the 2-3 we got with Carter?

I think Clifton Moore is precisely what we needed. (and probably very near the ceiling of what we can generally expect to get in a big man). Now coach him up and we're rolling.

Carter had the athleticism to earn 4 stars in HS. When he got to college and competed against equal or better athletes, he didn’t stand out so much in BE or A10. Maybe he will at Hartford.
I like the idea of adding Ashton-Langford and Ellison. Bottom line, Ash needs to win to get the four year recruits he needs to transform this program. I thought he did a good coaching job in year 1 with an 8-10 league record. He can do better with higher talent and better depth.
Ellison won’t impede others’ development. He will take minutes from Deas for the most part. I like that combo fighting for playing time and providing depth and athleticism that we will need if you want to win an A10 tourney and dance.
I think we need 2 solid PGs. If Ashton commits he will make Ayinde better in practice and provide the same depth and athleticism at a key position for two years.
We should try to qualify Moore for the same reasons.
The rules can be taken advantage of so Ray and Stone can play 30% of games. If they are key, they will play all year. If not it can be like a free redshirt year.
I like how Ash is assembling his team.

If not it can be like a free redshirt year. no they can't. the only way the 30% rule comes into play is if they get injured. la salle would need to file for the redshirt with supporting medical records proving the injury prevented them from being able to play the remainder of the season. the ncaa doesn't just rubber-stamp medical redshirts. you can't get away with playing kids for 8-9 games and stashing them away with a bogus injury so you can get another year for them.

Have not gotten into the weeds of the rules, but I know football players can play in four games without using a year of eligibility, and that many teams took advantage pf that this year for their frosh. Most teams play 13 games so 4/13 is about 30%. I was under the impression that this standard applied to all sports not just football. Is it just limited to football?
I know there is a separate 30% medical redshirt test, regardless of grade.

New guy here — I’ve been lurking for a while and decided to jump in on this post. I went to high school up in Allentown and I’ve seen Iorio play. He is a great scorer with good size and the ability to stretch the floor. Would be a nice get to add some reliable depth

Sam Iorio had an offer from Villanova, among others, back in 2016. Hopefully, Ash Howard was involved in recruiting him back then, as well as currently.

Maybe it was playing time( American over Villanova)- although u would think there would have been a lot of schools in between( Villanova + American)🤔🤔🤔

jay has no problem bringing in the occasional under the radar kid if they fit his system. darrun hilliard and colin gillespie are two examples who have had fine careers there and chris arch could be another one by the time he's done.
it wouldn't surprise me if they gave sam a conditional offer. he would have been a good fit there with his ability to shoot the ball. with coach ash running the same system, he could thrive here. with saul and shaggy graduating after this season, there will be minutes available for him. he'd be a nice pickup.

How does someone with an offer from Villanova end up at American? Sam Iorio's father and grandfather are both Villanova alumni. His grandfather Sam Iorio, Sr. played ( albeit sparingly -- may have been a walk-on ) for the Wildcats in 1962 - 63, 1963 - 64 under Jack Kraft. The Villanova offer to his grandson Sam 3rd may have been viewed by all concerned at the time as a " legacy courtesy ", with little or no expectation of seeing the playing floor.
IMO Sam Iorio made the smart decision, opting for guaranteed playing time at American University over riding the pine for two years at Villanova ( ala Tim Delaney and Dylan Painter ). He is a much better, physically stronger player today than he was two years ago coming out of Parkland H.S. Ironically, Jay Wright could probably now use a quality transfer player like Iorio to take the place of former Albany grad transfer Joe Cremo, who played well early this past season but who's 3 pt. shot all-but deserted him in the NCAA Tournament.

No idea how the America East shapes up, but it would be pretty cool if a couple old HS friends grad transferred there to make a run.

So as luck would have it recently, I spoke to a D-1 assistant coach about what is a "scholarship walk on." Sounds like a contradiction in terms but it's not. I was told that some top programs know they are loaded but need practice players. They recruit some players who will be on scholarship, practice but know they will not play a lot like a walk on. I think that could have been the case here. That was the first time I have ever heard the term "scholarship walk on". I know a lot of times you hear in college football that so and so will be a "preferred walk on". Hope that helps.
