I had a chance to see him last night. He isn't going to be flashy and dazzle you which is great. He is poised, patience and a player. Quietly scored 20. I can see where G says he is another Duren. He can shoot the jumper and take it to the hoop if that's what the defense is giving you. He can play the point and then switch to the wing. In other words, he fits perfectly in what G wants his guards to do. Be interchangeable parts.
Princeton was interested in him and I can see why. He is their kind of player. It will be a real treat watching him go up against the guards from Neumann, Roman, Prep and Carroll.
He is listed at 6-2 170. After a couple of years in the weight room he could be 185.

Helps the Junior Explorers take down Neuman Gorretti tonight.

Looks like Stukes had a really good game against Neumann-Goretti tonight. Philly.com said Stukes had 26 points.
La Salle handed Neumann-Goretti their first Loss to a team from Pennsylvania in a long time, and Neumann-Goretti's first loss in the Catholic League in a really, really, really long time.

If you go back to the old board, I think I interpreted his scouting profile to say he's likely a 3rd guard who can cover the point. Looks like he's pacing to really shove that in my face, in the best way possible.

A man whose b-ball opinion I value more than just about anyone i know personally told me that Stukes played a really good game and was very impressive. He will definitely be able to play in the A10, very poised, smooth, strong for his size, and under control on the floor all the time. This is not an insignificant pick-up.
Next year's back court, Duren, Mills, Garland, Stukes, Dunn, and K. Lewis is plenty of depth plus we get the big guy off the red-shirt year, not that he's going to be some crazy world-beater but there will be 3 bigs available plus Petersen and Brown.
Getting a significant swing man would be nice, unfortunately getting him via transfer won't help and will need to be able to land someone in the spring, which isn't likely. My guess is that the guys listed above are your 2013-14 Explorers. here's hoping Wright and Zack make some big steps the 2nd half of this season.

Stukes is going to be redshirted as of now.

I know others disagree- but I am tired of redshirt nonsense. We must win and a good player like Stukes gives us more depth and a better chance to win. When is it ever going to be about NOW

I think the thinking Is Stukes will not play as many minutes with Duren and Mills still on the team getting heavy minutes, plus Garland. It could be looked at as a waste of a year of eligibility to have him not get a lot of playing time. I guess we'll see.

Stukes is going to be redshirted as of now. Wow, really? I'm surprised to hear this. I don't have a problem with it considering we will have K Lewis become available next year as well. No need to play 4 really small guards at a time.

I'll bite...
Duren, Mills, Garland, Stukes, Dunn, and K. Lewis...that's 6 guards for essentially what is really 2 guard spots. When will he get playing time? It serves the team no good to have him play 3 mins here, 5 mins there...Duren and Garland will play over 30mpg; Mills will get at least 25 (which is a significant decrease from this year)...there's just no PT available. What do you recommend in terms of PT?
I guess you can argue that the team should find another big as you have pointed out so many times. None of us are against that idea, problem is as stated before, bigs that can provide help just aren't available.
BTW - I'm surprised to hear this about Stukes, but at the same time it doesn't when you look at the PT availability. Given that, I'm not upset about it at all. I'm sure though, if he's a superstar just waiting to happen, he'll force himself into the lineup.

We are pretty stacked at guard next year and there is experience at the position as well. Stukes isn't going to play ahead of them so why burn his eligibility? Stukes is going to be given the keys whe Duren leaves.

if he shows up to practice and dominates the redshirt won't last, but he does need to bulk up and if he's Duren-esque, I'd like to have him play major minutes for 4 years, a la the aforementioned, Duren.

Suppose, God Forbid that 2 of our guards get hurt late in season.Take the red shirt off? Is that fair to him then?I am just concerned with next season as it might be our last great chance to make NCAA and to make splash for recruiting purposes. Thus, all hands on deck and everybody should be ready to play. And yes- to be consistant-I want another big!

Is it fair to play him little and waste a year when he can't play ahead of the guard we have? You can't predict injuries and they can't dictate how you want to run your program, What big splash in recruiting? La Salle is hamstrung from our poor facilities, The kids we get now are what we are going to get in the next few years. It is up to G to develop players and finds hidden gems to stay competitive. Part of the development is redshirting players when needed.

G has only landed Stukes Davis and (transfer)Lewis in two years and to say that is not getting it done is an undrestatement. Nothing against these three kids but they need some help or we will be looking at ten win seasons a couple of years down the road.

I think it's unfair to say "G is not getting it done". He's brought in a guard from the SEC that has turned out to be our best player and let's not forget the national attention he got himself and LaSalle on ESPN last season (which was very positive). They brought in another guard who's a good scorer in Garland. Duren has been very solid and the two new kids he's brought in (Stukes and Lewis) are expected to be solid, if not spectacular, players.
I understand everybody wants a big and whatnot, and I do too. But let's be realistic with the situation. It's going to be very tough to get a big that will contribute right out of the gate. on top of that, it's better to bring in a number of quality guards and having that depth than to focus on bringing in bigs and end up with nothing.
If and when LaSalle is able to bring in that missing piece, it could be trouble. Look at SJU. They brought in Marvin O'Connor as a transfer and had other talented pieces, but lacked a couple of pieces. Once they were able to develop serviceable bigs AND hit the jackpot with Jameer Nelson, it set off a run for them. LaSalle is positioning itself for that kind of a run, they just need to get that missing piece...most likely through a transfer.
Remember, our best bigs over the last decade have been transfers.

Mookie if it sounds like I am down on G that was not my intention becuase all things considered he has done a good to very good job. I was just stating my concern regarding recruiting because he has to land at least one additional solid recruit this season and three next season to keep us from sliding backwards which is much easier said than done. 20 wins or more a season with what G has to work with is damn good even if it only gets us 4-6 place in the A10.

lwc - based off your post, you seem to count transfers but not redshirts as part of the recruiting class. I think you have to count Davis as part of the incoming class since his eligibility begins next season. The question then becomes, what do you think of Davis and his ability to contribute next season?
Also - of the "known" targets, do you believe LaSalle doesn't have a good shot at landing any of them? And of those, do you feel any of them can contribute as freshmen?

Mookie I count both transfers and red-shirts. We have starting next season Lewis and Brown as (Sophs), Davis, Stukes (Frosh) and that is all as of this time so G has got to get going. Usually I get to see most recruits in area high school games or D Tourny in Conshy but Davis I have never seen (Ohio) so I can't say much other than he looked pretty agile in a clip from last season for a player his size. As far as other recruits Artis would be a good get but according to all reports Pitt is his destination (until he transfers out like 25% of their recruits after 1 season). To me Brimah ia a big question and the very first question is why are almost no Florida schools interested. I hope Brimah joins us because G has a good I for talent but I doubt it happens. We will probably get any of the players currently named and after that the pickings are slim so at this point it does not look good.

I really wouldn't anticipate or hope for more than 1 more player to sign on. As you said, the picking are slim and since that's the case I see no point in bringing in a player that's not worth the scholarship.
Perhaps he's going to try and hit the transfer scene...or maybe the juniors are more talented and we have to wait on them?

lwc, not sure what else can be expected. A top guard isn't going to come right now because of how packed the roster is at guard. A top big is tough because of scarcity.

Tyrek Coger (6-8, 240) previously de-committed from Missouri and at one time listed La Salle in his top 3. He is now at his 3rd high school since the end of last season and recently was the MVP in a tourney which included some highly rated big men. He now has offers from Nova, Ill. St. and Tenn. Tech and has expressed a desire to go to NC St. Two of the 3 schools he has attended have had their curricula questioned by the NCAA so there is no guarantee he would qualify. But he is obviously a big body who can play. It is possible that G and his staff have backed away from him. Anyone have any information about where we stand with Tyrek?

Josh Paunil รพ@JoshPaunilNRS 2013 big man Tyrek Coger says Kansas State, Jacksonville & Villanova is his top three. All of them have offered him.

From Dave Telep: Trent International in Texas is home to an unsigned big man, Amadi Hamdi. He is hearing from Xavier, Auburn, Drexel and LaSalle.
