Congrats! Hope it's the beginning of a fruitful coaching career.

That's shocking. I would have expected him to get a much better job, Delaware does seem like it'd make sense. But Lincoln seems like a tremendously mediocre job for someone with legit experience already.

Congrats! Hope it's the beginning of a fruitful coaching career. Do you have a source for this? Nowhere on the internet. And D2? Better off being a second assistant somewhere.

Its not weird at all. He's a one year head coach and that one year is in a league that employs (employed?) Weingarten a half decade after he graduated from La Salle.

CIAA is one of the top D2 conferences in the USA... To this day the CIAA tournament is one of the best attended tournaments in regardless of Division...
Doug wanted to run a program and be a Head Coach... Very, very, very unlikely that one of the D1 schools in the region would give him that opportunity...
Most importantly... I played at Lincoln and I was extremely pleased that Doug took my advice and applied for the job!! I am ecstatic that Lincoln has decided to give him an opportunity to run the program as he sees fit!!
I expect BIG Things from Doug!!

Good for Doug, I say, but I do have one question - Wasn't he making more doing Sixers postgame for CSN than he will as their coach?

He wants to be a Head Coach in a college program... He is NOW a Head Coach in a college program... We should all be in a position to do what you really want! Glad to have an Explorer lead our program... Another Explorer, Alonzo Lewis, was the Head Coach at Cheyney for several seasons as well... #HBCUlife

If he wants to coach and they gave him a chance, great.

They are essentially giving their hoops program the death penalty.

But Lincoln seems like a tremendously mediocre job for someone with legit experience already. I'd have to disagree given how things have been going at UD over the last year. They have not made any movement on an AD and HC. They've essentially self-imposed a death penalty by not having a coach to recruit players this year and next. They've had a few players already request transfers...they're not in a position to have a winning season for another 2-3 years minimum. The team needs a complete rebuild and after winning 7 games this year, they'll be hard-pressed to win 5 next year.

Is their incoming President that clueless about how sports work or doesn't he care? They'll be playing intramural players the way things are going there. What an embarrassment to D1 sports.

Either takes it for granted or doesn't see the value of the program. Either way, it's an embarrassment and completely unfair to those associated with the program, especially the team.

In my book, Doug needed to have HEAD COACH on his resume at some college level. Nothing like sitting in the hot seat. Good for Doug. All the best to him.

In my book, Doug needed to have HEAD COACH on his resume at some college level. Nothing like sitting in the hot seat. Good for Doug. All the best to him. That's completely understandable. I just don't feel it's necessary though. Yes, you have to earn your stripes and gain some experience, just don't feel "Head Coach" experience is a requirement for a D1 position. And having HC experience doesn't necessarily guarantee success; and there have been quite a few success cases lately of coaches with no previous HC experience. Some recent examples of head coaches with a lot of success with no previous head coaching experience are Brad Stevens & Kevin Ollie. Also see the Hurley brothers. Going way back, you have Coach K who only had 1 year before becoming Army's HC. Even the NBA there's been an increase of HC's with no previous Head Coaching experience (Jason Kidd, Marc Jackson, Luke Walton, Brad Stevens)...I think Doc Rivers fell under that category too.

Mookie: That's just a list of exceptions. It would just as easily mean "hire Rasual as HC when he retires".

He deserves better.
I hope a D1 school puts him on their staff.
He did as much as he could at Lincoln and I think he'll be a good coach at a higher level in time.
