Good news, La Salle - Miami was picked up by ESPN 3. AND a good shooting team can beat Miami. They will use their bigs inside all game long.

Miami just lost to a team that shot 27% from the field. Miami was 0-15 from 3 point land and shot 34% from the field. Very beatable.

Miami played without 6'10", 290 lb Reggie Johnson for the entire Hawaii tournament. He averages 13 points and 10 rebounds. He should be ready to play by next Wednesday. They will be much harder to beat with him in the lineup.

He missed the last 3 games and the injury report lists him as out indefinitely. A sprained left thumb can be tricky especially since he has a great left handed hook shot. We'll see how this shakes out by the 2nd. Maybe his playing time will be limited if the thumb injury is still nagging.

The team will clearly prepare as if Johnson is playing but the indefinite tag is very concerning for Miami fans. Usually a short term injury is tagged with questionable. Maybe they hold him out or limit him until ACC play which is Jan 5.
Reggie Johnson C Hand Out indefinitely - 12/24/12 Johnson continues to recover from an injured hand and will be out of the lineup for an indefinite amount of time.

The game within the game is very interesting here. Yes we all want to win this game on the court but the recruiting game is almost as important to win for La Salle. Would be awesome to beat the Canes and then impress Brimah too.
Anyone know if Archbishop Carroll (FL) has a game that night?
Side note, anyone concerned about a letdown or sloppy game at Siena. Nothing against our friends to the North but if I am a La Salle player I can't be thrilled at a trip to Albany NY when sunny and warm Coral Gables is a day away.

Too many days off in between games for them to have a letdown in my opinion. They'll be itching to play

This is unconfirmed, but early reports are Reggie Johnson broke his thumb. I never wish injury to players so lets hope he recovers well. He was essential to that Miami team. If true, this explains the indefinite tag to the injury report...

I know many will jump on me but if their big man is good to go we will get beat handily because you can't go into an away game aginst a good Miami team which has lost two in a row after playing against teams with much less talent like Sacred Heart and Siena. IF their big guy doesn't play this should be a very good game, win or lose.

@jonrothstein: Dangerous game @hurricanemoe with no Reggie Johnson is Miami going to be in trouble against LaSalle?

IF their big guy doesn't play this should be a very good game, win or lose. So your position is we can't beat this team because we had easy wins the 2 games before it? So we'd be in better shape if we'd just played a couple of overtime wars a la the Villanova game?

We are game for this game. Should be a great match up and a fun game to watch. This game is all about our outside game vs. their inside game. Need to hit the 3s to draw their bigs out and then attack inside.

Update on Johnson
Jeff Goodman @goodmancbs
Miami big man Reggie Johnson is expected to miss about six weeks with a broken thumb, source told CBSSports. Tough blow for the 'Canes.

Hate to see anyone hurt. But I hope we beat them without him then he gets healthy and they get red hot.

I wish Johnson was healthy. Would make a victory more meaningful and his injury makes a win less appealing and a loss more stinging.
Play the best and the emotions are more vibrant.
A win over a Reggie Johnson-less team doesn't help La Salle as much as it could have.

I agree it helps for RPI reasons right now but if La Salle is on the bubble and the committee looks at this game you can bet every cent you own that a win over Miami with Reggie Johnson helps La Salle much more than a win without him. Miami will also fall in the RPI without him as they will lose games they would win with him as they progress through the season.

Nobody can predict what that number may be. It'll be fine to watch though.

I have to agree that it hurts us that he isn't playing. I'd rather beat a team at full strength than missing a key piece. I think even with a win on Wednesday, we'd still have a much higher bar for performance in conference to get an at-large bid because there will be no signature wins in the OOC. Not sure how good Miami is without Johnson, but it wouldn't look good to a committee and a loss will look worse than a loss if he'd played. So in the hunt for a signature win, do we need to beat VCU, Butler or Temple now? I don't think 'Nova cuts it.

Remember, the selection committee heavily weighs RPI AND bubble teams that appear on the schedule. As of today, Miami is firmly in the tournament. They can become a bubble team by season's end; however, their RPI will most likely still be in the top 50 since they are a big conference team. Their SOS really benefits us if we win. St. Louis and Dayton are currently bubble teams. Those are must wins. Xavier is no longer a bubble team but their NCAA history will look good on our resume if we do end up beating them. I still don't think we need Butler, VCU or Temple to make it in. It's all about getting to 22 wins, while beating some bubble teams (Dayton, St. Louis). Out conference schedule will thankfully expose us to some tougher teams than our OOC schedule did. Looking back, Bucknell would have been a great win. They are also firmly in the tournament as of today. Professors from Georgia Tech are tracking their own version of NCAA rankings. La Salle is currently #66 in the country making us a bubble team. Ken Pomeroy has us ranked #53. www2.isye.gatech.edu/~jsokol/lrmc/about/lrmcteam/

We all said we would have beaten Nova and Pitt last year with Galloway, then we went and laid an egg against St Joe's. Injuries happen to everyone. Key is to win, ask questions later.

unfortunately, the rep at 1-800-comcast and I found out that they don't have access to "fox sports south" on their sports package, but the rep only admitted that after she had tried to sell me the entire sports package for 8.95/month. I found that it had three other fox sports regions but not south. it included Atlantic, Pacific, and Central. And when I asked for specific pay per view options, she said they have no access to this game or channel. I am disappointed in Comcast because I'm thinking some of you fios and directv customers will be able to call in and have access to that station. If anyone has success in doing so, please post instructions here for the benefit of other subscribers. meanwhile, as a comcast customer I will be tuning into espn3 (online only) for the live feed at 9pm tomorrow. Most people can watch espn3. However, there are some blackouts, presumably because the fox sports south is available in a lot of these regions.
