He's our star. Lets see how Garland accepts his supporting role. This is OUR year though. Two strong transfers, three prolific scorers and four Philadelphia born natives. This is OUR year.

He was outstanding. Narducci's article thos morning said that there were 3 NBA Scouts on hand last night. He is certainly continuing to make quite a name for himself. The kid did it all last night...athletic dunks and rebounds, hit mid-range jumpers, hit open 3s, had 10 assists (some spectacular ones), held one of the nation's leading scorers a few points below his average (watching Jones and Ramon go shot-for-shot in the first half was a lot of fun to watch).
He really did it all and did so in spectacular fashion.

I hope you are right. I am really worried about our interior defense which is basically non-existant. When we don't shoot well we will struggle to win games. Hopefully Garland adds another consistent scorer which will help when Ramon and Tyreek are not shooting well.

The 3 have the potential to give the program a personality and an identity (and maybe even a little bit of swagger) that it has not seen in a long, long time. If they continue to gel together it will be fun to watch. Of course, they have to keep on winning. But it would be great to see a "run and gun" style of basketball come to 20th and Olney, but not sure if G will go that way. It has its advantages and disadvantages, but it will create excitement.

88, I agree. The interior defense was non existent in the first half. Reminded me a of a pregame layup line. Obviously, adjustments were made at half time and as a result Iona only scored 29 points. I still don't like the foul shooting at 55%. Against A-10 competition, when every point matters we can't leave points at the foul line.

I love that G pointed out how well Garland moved without the ball. I didn't notice that last night but he must have scored a bunch of his non-three points off of assists.
If that holds true, then we have a guard rotation that has really great roles. Ramon can play his whirling dervish insane style. Tyreek keeps things steady when they need to be. Ty just sneaks around and gets open (while also being able to shoot and finish). And Sam acts as a sniper.
We legit have one of the best guard rotations in the country. These guys mesh so well. I think we have a great claim to make that they're the most underrated backcourt in the country.
Ramon's game was an all-time great game. He's rapidly moving up the list of all-time best players since I've been at La Salle. I'm glad there were some NBA scouts there last night because he's showing he can make it at that level.

Hopefully Garland adds another consistent scorer which will help when Ramon and Tyreek are not shooting well. To me our Bigs will ultimately limit our possibilities when all is said and done. Having said this I am expecting a better outcome and end to this season beyond last years. Perhaps several NIT wins. As we all know, we lack depth with our Bigs. And Zack and Jerrell are sophmores and play like sophmores, inconsistently. For example at times they seem to finish nicely and at others times a nice play is concluded but the finish (bucket) ain't there. Defensively, Zack while not as athletic seems to be a little smarter (or tend to keep his head in the game on D) in comparison to Jerrel. But Both seem to have lapses particulalry with commiting dumb fouls. We cannot compensate when they are out like we can with the guards. There we have such nice depth and talent As the season progresses I am suspecting our Bigs will become more consistent. I was also hoping that their backups could be become more serviceable. This to me will tell the story of how we finish the season.

Both kids have really imprved their games at both ends of the floor. They aren't even half way through their careers at this point and I expect the development curve to remain pretty high for the next 12 months for each guy and at that point they will likely begin to level off.
No doubt, however, that consistent production from those guys can really propel this team to huge heights. And by production, I don't mean scoring, I mean doing things right, like finishing layups (as mentioned above) and avoiding unnecessary fouls and learning when the "right" time to foul is. I think these guys both have solid B-Ball IQs, Jerrell is clearly more athletic, Zack much more cerebral which I like as a balance down low. having good B-Ball IQ really helps development I think.
In fact, this is probably the highes BBall IQ team in G's Tenure. Duren is #1 and Garland might be a close 2nd - Galloway and Mills are not much behind and then our bigs. This team just relaly seems to love basketball as a sport and not just because it's cool...they seem like the kind of guys that would play ball against Duke even if no one came to the gym and not because they want to be "stars" and I really like that about the team.

Hoops I really have to disagree on Jerrell. I don't think he has improved much. He is not a good defender and really has not expanded his offensive game.He has the same post moves and his FT shooting is also not very good. What concerns me most here is that normally the biggest improvement in a player comes from the freshman to sophomore year and it just isn't there at the moment. Hopefully he bucks the trend and see the biggest improvement after his sophomore year. He is a great kid and I really hope he succeeds.
I agree Zack has shown some improvement but his lack of athleticsm will stunt future development. In other words, he has diminishing returns on his improvement.
All this being said, G needs to find some way to upgrade this area in the next two years to really keep this thing going as well as adding some other areas.

I agree with Mik. If anything, I'd say Wright's regressed.
It's laughable and somewhat sad to see how left-hand dependent he is. Everything he does is with one -- and only one -- goal in mind: get to the left side/hand. Up fakes, spin moves, pivots, all just so he can go left.
Any half-assed scout knows the entire book on him within 5 minutes, and you can see it in the way he's been (or not been) defended.
I'm not saying he sucks -- far from it. But for a player who's supposed to be good, it's pretty pathetic to be handicapped to that extent.
