Watching LSU vs. Lehigh. Former Explorer great P John Bisco '77 is the Lehigh Pitching Coach. John was 20-5 on back-to-back Explorer Baseball teams that reached the NCAA tournament.

VCU is going to Super Regionals if they win today against Dallas Baptist.(Dallas Baptist needs to beat them twice) Would only be the 4th or 5th #4 seed to ever do that.
Name from the past, former Norristown High super-athlete Steve Bono has a son on the UCLA team. Bono was heavily recruited out of HS and picked UCLA. Played QB there and was backup to Montana and Young on SF 49ers. Today he is a very successful owner of an investment firm in SF.

Played basketball with Steve in Upper Merion summer league. Steve was a very good HS Bob player. He also played for the KC Chiefs.

VCU makes it into the Super Regionals! Dallas Baptist sounds like a no-name school but they had a RPI of 3. Baseball's the only major D-1 sport they play. VCU sneaking past Miami would be huge for the conference. This is like a 13 seed making it to the Sweet 16.
No A-10 team has made it to the World Series, unless you count UMass back in the 1950s. Northeastern schools are at such a disadvantage because of weather. They play less games and, on top of it, draw from a recruiting pool that also plays less baseball. Kids in the warm weather states can play all year long.
The last school from the northeastern US to make it to Omaha was Stony Brook in 2012. Before that was Maine sometime in the 80s. Temple made it in the 1970s. VCU's a bit of a reach to call them northeastern, but Virginia doesn't have a Florida climate and everyone else in the conference is north.
If you couldn't tell, I am really into college baseball. This is the first year I've really paid any attention to the tournament. It's a great event, since the regionals are at on-campus sites in front of really intimate crowds.
The women's softball tournament has been a blast, too. So many crazy close games. The players on the bench really bring it with cheers and the like. It's really fun.

Got to see a little of the VCU win last night. Congrats to the Rams.
One of the announcers said that after MBB NCAA Tournament that College Baseball is the biggest moneymaker in a tournament/championship format.
As for the softball cheers, I agree but once your kid "retires" (from 6 to 21 years old) it is one thing you don't miss about the sport. That and getting up at 5am to drive to a field for a 630am warm ups for a Saturday or Sunday 8am game.
I take that back. It was some of the best times in our lives.

Former La Salle MBB player Barry Brodzinski had his son Greg picked today in the 18th round by the Philles. Greg is from Bishop Eustace and started out at SEC and National Power South Carolina. Transferred to a JUCO and then the last two season at Barry University in FL.
What a thrill for the young man and the family to be drafted by a MLB ballclub. All the best to him in the future.
