Could go either way. NYCFC ("we") are near the bottom in goal scoring (0.75 per, t-16th of 20) but 4th in expected goals*. So if you believe in results, its a great game for McCarthy. If you believe in process, he could be facing a team that's due.
* Deadspin recently picked apart expected goals. I still think it has value, atleast in terms of general rankings, just not exact numbers.

Got the Win yesterday for the Union. He was very emotional in the post game interview. It meant so much for him to play well in front of the home town sellout crowd. Said his goal is to be on the USA National Team.
Congrats John and all the best going forward. I hope you reach your goals.

Great job as the Union finally get a win this season. One issue I have is that thing McCarthy was wearing on his head. I realize that futbol players can use some head protection but he looked like the kid that got his tongue stuck to the pole in A Christmas Story.

Was the game on live in Philadelphia? NYCFC plays on YES here and for some stupid ass reason, they ran the full postgame show and started the soccer game an hour late. Who watches tape delayed sporting events these days?

Who watches tape delayed sporting events these days? Yes that debut game was on Channel 6 locally. The next game tomorrow evening from Yankees Stadium should be on YES and on Comcast Network (LIVE) and the nycfc doesn't say anything this time about a tape delay.

Who watches tape delayed sporting events these days? "Please note that, due to a conflict with its Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees telecast... YES will air the Philadelphia Union-New York City FC soccer match in its entirety beginning at approximately 5 pm ET... immediately following the network’s Red Sox-Yankees post-game show. The actual Philadelphia-NYC FC match will start at 4 pm ET and will be streamed live via the FOX Sports GO app to authenticated YES viewers whose operators have streaming deals with YES (Cablevision/Optimum and Time Warner Cable). Any questions on the YES programming schedule should be sent to ehandler[at]yesnetwork[dot]com."Yes, you would never see baseball preempted for a soccer game that ran over schedule. It's just another example of soccer being relegated to shit status in America.

The worst part was it wasn't even the game overrun, it was the post-game. There has to be a sister station (WPIX?) that could have either picked up the post-game or the soccer match. NYCFC didn't respond to my sarcastic twitter comment.

Most Americans are aware of the concussion problem that has swept the NFL but there is the Italian Professional Soccer league where nearly 50 former players have died as a result of the same problem. My daughter played goalie and I was scared every time she made a charge to stop a breakway. My other daughter played youth soccer with an excellent goal keeper. This young lady unfortunately suffered so many concussions by her Soph. year in HS that she was forced to "retire" from all sports (she would have been a D-1 player in two sports). Her last concussion resulted in her spending six weeks in her dark bedroom.
BTW, Cole Stefan also had a concussion at La Salle and also had to spend time in his dorm room in complete darkness. No TV. They even unplugged the clock radio.
So who gives a shit what it looks like.

I've had a bunch, fortunately none at the dark-room-for-a-month level of severity. I'd wear a rubber penis on top of my head if it could prevent a future one from occurring.

McCarthy will be sidelined for some time due to a concussion.
