I like the first half result. Listening to the game, not there. But I like what I hear, and I like the quickness comment. Sounds like we are stronger defensively this year as well. I would not rule out a 20 win season. We'll be competitive, thats for sure. Especially if we can get a couple of 3's from Zach every game.

Looking purely at stats - Jordan Price appears as advertised. Stuffed the stat sheet offensively and defensively.
How did Cleon look? Besides 3-11 from the field?

you have to like the way we put away an inferior opponent, similar to what we did during the Galloway years, and what we were unable to do last year. Exhibition or no exhibition.

Statistically speaking, keeping a good-shooting team to 30% for the game by being solid in both halves is the biggest takeaway for me.
They will be able to put points on the board every night because they can legitimately go 10 deep and should be able to find enough points without those long droughts that plagued them last year - if they can defend....things could be good

Team looked pretty good, understanding it was just an exhibition game. Some observations from being in attendance:
Jordan Price had a nice game and is very talented. His first 3 or 4 three point attempts were brutal, but you could tell he just wasn't comfortable. Then he just turned it on - I believe he hit 4 three's in a row after that start. He also played a lot. Looks like he is the real deal.
I thought Stukes looked really good. I was impressed with him tonight. I also thought Shuler looked good in spurts, very quick and I thought Lewis looked good tonight as well. Looks like we will see a Lewis/Stukes/Shuler point guard rotation. All three looked quick tonight.
Wright and Zack looked solid - hopefully poised for solid senior seasons. Wright looks bigger and stronger.
Cleon Roberts struggled a good part of the game - but toward the end he gained some confidence and had a couple athletic dunks and hit a 3.
Tony Washington is a bit raw offensively but you could see he has nice upside. Long and athletic - he had a nice dunk and a couple good blocks. Hopefully he can give us some minutes backing up Wright and Zack when needed.
DJ Peterson hit a couple three pointers early.
And Rohan hustled and played hard as he always does. Nice player to have on your team and in your program.
Nice tune up before we start for real on Saturday. Hopefully we get off to a quick start on Saturday.

I share what cpico said.
I thought the point guards played well.
Cleon Roberts reminds me of a wild pony. He has to be harnessed. Wants to shoot the ball all the time.
Washington is raw offensively but has a lot of upside.
We are bigger and quicker than last year.
I liked what I saw but have have to temper expectations since it was a D-2 school.

Only stayed for first half.
Clearly Roberts didn't get the memo. He was the only player who wanted to dribble dribble like last year. I was hoping to see more ball movement and less dribbling on offense. I saw that tonight.
I thought the defense was pretty good but needed to be better. Rebounding was okay considering it was an exhibition game. I think we had a bunch of steals before half. I LOVED that G used full court pressure with all these guards.
Liked how Lewis and Stukes got into the lane and made layups.
Price will be the go-to man. Liked what I saw from him.

I am excited by the offensive options and the defense in this game. This team will give G the chance to choose his gameplan against each opponent and game flow. Excited for the season.

Anyone who is at the game what players look comfortable at which ones look as if they are struggling Forget about points and who is shooting good or bad how do the players look as basketball players. Amar looked surprisingly comfortable, especially as the game went along. had some great drives, still a little hesitant to shoot. Cleon looked terribly uncomfortable. Forcing shots and trying a little too hard. Hopefully just nerves, but watching him was probably the most disappointing part. Tony had some trouble catching the ball and staying under control. I compare him to (an obviously less skilled and less advanced) Narlen Noel, who still moves a little too fast sometimes. Tony did look very good on Defense and was a presence blocking shots and in the paint.

Overall, I think going 9 or 10 deep will help so much. Help us pressure the ball like G has liked to do the last couple years and everyone won't be exhausted. Need to crash a little better and get rebounds, especially against teams like Quinnipiac, the best rebounding team in the country. We won because Philly U couldn't get open 3s. That's the make or break for these DII or low DI schools that can shoot. If we tried having a shootout with them, it wouldn't have ended well. Good prep by G and the staff and players. I don't remember a team with nearly the depth this one has. Started like that with Rodney Green his senior year, but injuries plagued that year to the fullest. Still like this group more, in A 10 play, if 9 or 10 can play together, it'll be huge. Only team we played last year that I think went a good 10 deep was Dayton, and we know how good they were.

They limited a pretty good shooting team to 31% from the floor. Philly U scored about 1/3 of their points from the line. I thought our guards, particularly when Stukes and Schuler were in together made their guards very uncomfortable all night and were disruptive of their offense. I absolutely LOVED what I saw on defense. Lots of energy.

I absolutely LOVED what I saw on defense. Lots of energy. An even better sign: the first half they shot 29% second half: 31% I want to know the last time Herb Magee's team shot 30%. Truly impressive performance and again shows the depth of this team. The "second team" could still hold them in the low 30s shooting. If we can play like that all year.... it'll be a great one.

I thought the defense committed a lot of silly fouls which sent Philly U to the line. I also didn't like how we allowed PU players to drive to the baseline and basket. IMO we overplayed the offensive guy but gave them a path to the basket. It might be over-critical in a game where you only allowed one 3FG and PU shot 31% but I thought that was somewhat sloppy. Would I take it every game, Yes.

Love the freshman guards. They'll make their mistakes, but they are not typical freshman. Great hard-nosed defense from both of them and they ran the offense just fine. Amar was credited with two assists and Johnnie didn't have any, but both had at least a couple great passes that were dropped which should have turned into assists. Between them, Khalid, and Jordan, I think we're in really good shape at the point. All four of them can play the position effectively. Johnnie reminded me of Charlie Wise last night.
I think I was most encouraged by Khalid. I know injuries had a lot to do with his poor play last year, but I always thought that the mental aspect of his game was just as much a problem. He always tried to make spectacular plays instead of making the smart play. Last night, he played completely under control and didn't force a thing. Just a wonderful floor game from him. DJ also played well and made Phila U pay when they left him open. I don't understand the criticism he gets on this board. He plays his role and does a good job at it. He deserves to play, especially when he's making shots. Rohan also played a nice solid game. He provides quality depth.
Jordan is the real deal. After he got those early bricks out of his system, he played very well. And his floor game was outstanding. 5 assists against 2 turnovers along with 5 rebounds. Played under control and was extremely unselfish. I just love that we'll have him for three years.
Cleon was disappointing but I'm sure a lot of of it had to do with nerves. Once he calms down and lets the game come to him, he'll do fine. He's a talented kid.
Tony is raw, but he will give us solid minutes and will only continue to get better. He had a hard time holding onto the ball last night which I didn't recall being a problem at the open practice. I think nerves had their effect on him too. He just oozes potential.
Jerrell didn't do much but he will be fine. He was content to give the ball up because he got doubled or tripled every time he touched it. The team got great shots all night because of the collective unselfishess and it started with Jerrell. Steve played very well and did a nice job on Alexis who put up much better numbers against James Madison and Pitt. His ability to hit the occasional perimeter shot will also help Jerrell get some space inside.
Loved the defensive intensity and in particular, the help defense that was played. If someone got by their man, there was usually someone else there to block their path. Offensively, lots of movement and cuts and very little standing around. Hopefully that is here to stay.
I know it was only an exhibition, but to sum it up in a couple sentences, I was very encouraged by what I saw and I think they have a chance to be pretty good.

Overall, I think going 9 or 10 deep will help so much. I just really, really, really hope minutes are a game by game decision. No "_______ has only played 8 minutes so he needs time" if _______ isn't playing well or the guy in now is lighting it up. Consistent allocation of PT can be the downfall of deep teams.

Kjmac although I am critical of DJ on the offensive side of the floor he is still a plus player because of his defense and overall smart play. To simplfy he will never wow you with his offense but will with his team play.

He provides quality depth. I don't think anyone here is intending to criticize DJ, just voicing the opinion that last year's 18 MPG should carry over to this season versus going back to the tourney team's 25+ MPG. Rohan is actually the guy I think he makes most sense to be linked to; solid, rarely-negative role players who stabilize the starters when needed.

This team is certainly more athletic and deeper than last year's based on last night's exhibition and open practice. I also think more talented. Still tough to say in the early going how many wins. I am anywhere from .500 to tourney birth (Crazy I know but that is how uncertain it is given we don't know how they will gel and mature.....last night looked good though in terms of playing together). NIT birth is my preseason guess.
