Sports radio is reporting out here in St. Louis that Majerus has died. I'm not a fan of his as a person but definitely a great basketball mind.

Wow. That's a shame, though not overly surprising due to his health. Was hoping to see him return to the sidelines someday.

The big guy could flat out coach.
Some classic quotes:
"Some guys smoke. Some guys drink. Some guys chase women. I'm a big barbecue-sauce guy."... "I'm like that guy on the Odd Couple, and it's not the neat guy. I go into my room and find pieces of pizza under the laundry." [Arizona Republic, 3/17/1998]
On coaching college vs. the NBA...
"I like practice, I love teaching, I love to see a kid get a degree and an education. I enjoy the college campus. I like the band rather than that fabricated music. I like the fact that we have students that are cheerleaders that really care, as opposed to a dancing girl team of hired mercenaries." [The Sporting News, 11/10/2000]
To Jay Bilas, wearing a polo shirt rather than the traditional Hawaiian shirt while covering a tournament in Hawaii... "Jay, only a guy who gets out of the shower to take a piss would wear a shirt like that." [ESPN, 01/04/2005, Quoted on DukeBasketballReport.com]

I read that he lived in a hotel as his home when he coached in Utah. I dont think he was married. Strange life style. RIP. I remember rooting for Utah in the NCAA finals. I also watched an interview where he said he was trying to get Shawn Bradley to come to Utah..he was sitting in his living room and said well..are u going to come..and Bradley said no...and Rick said why?...then Bradley said the Lord told me to go to BYU..and Rick goes..I think that is a recruiting violation....and he said Bradley just sat there expressionless...not at all getting the joke.

Truly a unique person and coach. He had his own style of play. Didn't agree with a lot of things he did but admired his coaching. He was the best analyst on television. Loved his insights. Once I was in the car listening to him on the Mike Francesa show and late for an appointment because I sat in the parking lot listening to the full intereview.
RIP Coach.
Finally I wonder what stories Hank Raymond could have told about going to work everyday with Al McGuire and Rick Majerus. Two very colorful characters.
