And the reason this isn't on the "other discussion page" is?

Good to hear it. These things happen in increments snd progress is being made. The new form the detractors take is "why is this a big deal?" Which really just means "I don't want to hear/think about athletes being gay, but that's no longer a palatable opinion."

It's important and it's an A10 team. Everybody knock the thread police stuff off.

And the reason this isn't on the "other discussion page" is? This is fucking dumb. On our front page alone, there's a PSU kid, a Manhattan coach, a Penn kid (getting arrested?) and a Temple kid. Pretty sure what will be a major A-10 story counts atleast as tangentially related if not more so, right?

Good on him.
I will personally go to the student section and tell kids to knock it off if anyone yells homophobic stuff to him if we play them at Gola.

I'll ignore the "fucking dumb" comment and just ask if it's "at least as tangentially related" as the player who came w/in 67 points of passing Lionel Simmons on the all time NCAA scoring list. That thread was moved. I suspect placing it on the front page was to draw more traffic and views to it and generate more discussion, for what ever reasons, than it's "tangentially related"ness to La Salle and the A10, but that would just be a guess.

Kid handled the initial interview with poise and dignity...
The trajectory in this country, over the long haul, is toward inclusion and acceptance...
Team sports are getting there... This is a VERY significant announcement...
Nonetheless, he will be tormented by some student sections... it's inevitable...

What else is there to talk about? It's the offseason, you talk about whatever you possibly can because it's boring as hell. Good on him though. Brave man.

Right, maybe I'm way off and already forgetting the "Keydren Clark Appreciation Thread" that was posted when he became the 7th member of the 3,000 points club. That's a much stronger connection than our conference tying into a major social story.

It is always best to keep your sexual preference to yourself. I don't care whether the player is straight, gay or a switch hitter. None of anyone's business. The extra attention it brings can really harm both the player and team.

Also, the irony of the guy who brought politics into literally every fucking discussion to the extent we had to create a new website declaring an issue as best kept private is just amazing. Mindblowingly ironic, and yet not even a tiny little bit shocking.

"Its best for me, as a straight white male, to not have to hear about anyone different than me." See my earlier post. People who say they don't get why it's a big deal are being intentionally obtuse. Maybe we'll get to a point where it's not a big deal, but we're not there yet. And the only way we get there is by encouraging guys to be themselves.

People who say they don't want the distraction are enabling hatred.

And for the record, I didn't move the McDermott thread, Joe did. I wouldn't have, but this is still his site after all.
It was bit quizzical to me posting ap appreciation thread for him, but I didn't think it was too big a deal. It's early offseason, not much going on. The best message board on the internet, for my money, has no seperate forums, you just post "non football thread" when it's off topic. I like the separate forum here, but really in the offseason, if it's got anything to so with La Salle, or, basketball in general, it's not really too big a deal.
That's my opinion, for what it's worth.

"I'm a conservative! I'm a Catholic!! Whoa, keep that sexual orientation stuff to yourself!!!" This is better than when he was incorrectly arguing the use of "they're" versus "their" and "there" with dictionary entries.

If you're truly a Catholic, then you don't judge people or treat them differently based on their sexual preference. Not trying to go Holy-Roller on anyone but it's a pretty simple religion.

You know nothing about me, my family or my personal life. So don't pretend you do. Second, why is it always you that has to bring these non La Salle basketball discussions to the front page? I come here to read about La Salle basketball, not have a debate on social issues. I've objected to Steve's posts going the other way in the past for the same reason. And finally, I must have missed your posts supporting Will Sheridan at Nova, Brittney Griner at Baylor, Michael Sam and Jason Collins. It's a lot easier to act so enlightened when it's no longer ground breaking.

Which really just means "I don't want to hear/think about athletes being gay, but that's no longer a palatable opinion." You're painting with a bit of a wide brush here. My honest-to-God first reaction was exactly that - why is this a big deal? Jason Collins playing for the Nets, for example, was a big story for about a day or two, and now he's back to being just another benchwarmer on an NBA team, which is exactly what he wants to be. Gordon is gay, and hopefully happy and comfortable in his life, now let's get back to talking about hoops, right? I think that's exactly the reaction he's looking for. And any student or group of students heckling him because of this should be banned for life from whatever arena it happens in.

First things first, Richard Cranium. You know nothing about me, my family or my personal life. So don't pretend you do. So the guy who shot assumptions doesn't like getting assumptions shot back? Got it. Second, why is it always you that has to bring these non La Salle basketball discussions to the front page? I come here to read about La Salle basketball, not have a debate on social issues. I've objected to Steve's posts going the other way in the past for the same reason. No reason you can't ignore a post, right? If you didn't want to have a debate, don't start a debate. And finally, I must have missed your posts supporting Will Sheridan at Nova, Brittney Griner at Baylor, Michael Sam and Jason Collins. It's a lot easier to act so enlightened when it's no longer ground breaking. In order: Post career, women's game, football and pro None really related to La Salle basketball, but you already knew that.
