La Salle with the ball! You do NOT hold for last here. Score quick, and that way if you miss, you can foul and still have a shot at the 3 even if Nova hits both FT's.

Wow.. So bad...
But yell we won playing a bad game with a lot of dumb decisions without our best front court player for about 20 minutes in the second half and OT

Wow!!!! These are the type of games that we needed to learn how to win. Congratulations to the Explorers. LaSalle found a way. Lets keep rolling. Soon we will add Garland1

Some bad stuff today but above all the team showed both physical and mental toughness late in this game which was very nice to see.
Also great call by G on the back door cut by Duren. If you are going to rag on him like we tend to do, got to give him credit when credit due.

Way to gut out the win. I thought for sure they were going to lose in regulation. Gritty play. It wasn't pretty but they got the win. Congrats to G & the team.
The only thing that really irks me was that I wasn't there. I had tickets and was driving to the game when my tire blew out. That was the end of my day. Caught part of it on tv at least.

Just got back! What an awesome game.
Notes:
1) I have no idea how it came off on television but the atmosphere was great. It was quiet at first but at the end was even better than the Homecoming game. The W section was filled to the brim. Not sure how the E sections looked (since I was sitting there) but it was great. The student section maybe wasn't as big as Homecoming or the NIT game but there were definitely a lot of students and they were really into the game.
2) I can't say enough about Ramon. I know Ramon can get crazy out there with shot selection but they obviously don't win without him. He willed them back in the game in the second half with his hustle, shotmaking and passing.
3) I can't say enough about Tyreke. He went into takeover mode -- cool, calm, collected and like an assassin.
4) Steve Zack was fantastic. Must have had about 15 boards. He was overmatched physically on defense but still gave a really guts effort in the wake of Jerrell fouling out. But he manned up and was really well. Those last free throws, too -- wow.
5) I love DJ so much. That backdoor pass to Tyreke was beautiful. Props to Dr. G, too -- he was limited in his lineup options but ran good offense, I thought. Ramon and Tyreke are both really good decision makers with the ball and can also shoot -- get them moving towards the rim, have shooters spacing them out and have a big guy roll towards the hoop. It's simple but that's what works best with this offense. We'll probably see more complex later in the season (it's game three) when Ty Garland gets going but making it simple and getting the ball in the hands of your best players works.
6) Their defense was, I thought, really good at times. They gave up a ton of size but had a bunch of steals and were really good switching.
GREAT win. Everyone back on board!

Also, Jerrell got hosed. His fifth foul was right in front of me and was completely ludicrous.

Goddam that was an awesome win. Ugly, typical Big 5 game. Our guys missed a lot of good looks and could have made it a lot less dramatic. In the end, at crunch time with their best Big man out of the game the gutted out a win and that's all that matters

I have no idea why we don't run that backdoor cut more, especially since our big guys are decent passers.

Zack still has to play better.. sorry he had more mistakes than good plays..
Mills had too many bad finishes..
Regarding the offense, this offense needs to be back to guard and small forward pick and rolls, not Zack. He is too slow and frankly doesn't drive to the basket strong and quickly enough for the defense to even consider him a threat. Duren has to be more offensive earlier in the game. He played a great final 15 minutes but he needs to start that earlier on. He can be a decent shooter and a decent D1 level guard should be able to shoot 35% from 3 point land with open looks off of these pick and rolls. The same thing with Peterson. Just because you miss a 3 pointer on the previous possession doesn't mean you can't shoot the ball the next possession. Especially if you are open and have the ability to step into the shot. If you want to pick and roll, pick and roll by the guards and/or Wright. Leave Zack on the weak side for rebounds/put backs.
This game also shows how thin we are in the front court.. This was why Brimah was a huge recruit for us. He would have been the best athlete on frontcourt from both teams... Allowing 5 offensive rebounds on the first possession of OT would not have happened if he was in there.

I could say many things; for now, however, WE WIN is enough.
