69, I am encouraged by that quote. I will believe it when i see it.
G also needs to ride the refs when they call a phantom foul on Jerrell. He needs to protect his guy. The first foul on Jerrell was a no contact play. TD3 bricked a 3 so badly that while Halil was jumping he turned around to see where the hell the ball went. Jerrell did not push him. On the next fouls, Roberts was already by Jerrel and the contact came off ball by Duren.
He needs to get in the refs' face on those. Instead, he gets pulled and sits at the end of the bench, which speaks volumes in body language.
It wouldn't hurt to put together a reel of phantom fouls on Jerrell and send it to league head and head of officials to emphasize the point. If the refs get some heads up from the league and G reinforces it at game time whenever a phantom happens, that ups the odds considerably that Jerrell plays 30+ minutes. I wouldn't use the powder on these arguments with Zack. He uses his body well and rarely gets a phantom call.
We still won't have a ton of frontcourt talent/depth next year, so this line of attack will be helpful for this year and next year, so it is worthwhile.

Wow. G is realizing what we knew since last year. Only take out JW when he needs a rest. PERIOD. Let him in the game. Let him foul out. I bet he rarely does.

We agree that if Jerrell fouls out with 12 minutes to play in the next game with us up 5 and we end up losing, no one is allowed to complain about not having Jerrell down the stretch, right?

I'll take him fouling out with us up 5 over watching a four point lead turn into a ten point deficit with him riding pine at the back end of a first half in a game where we never came close to regaining the lead.

Let him play. If he fouls out then he fouls out. Plus let him learn now how to play with four fouls while it doesn't matter. G needs to start thinking about next year. We have a chance to be good next year. JW is the best big man we have had since Kezell Wesson.

I understand the frustration of watching game with JW on bench, but in Gs defense, many coaches adhere to that philosophy-Chaney did. The real problem is that JW, especially early in games, puts self in position to get called. He needs to start game with belief that he already has 2 fouls, and cant afford reach ins or lower the shoulder and bull ahead. Box out, rebound and shoot the short hook. Nothing fancy. Now, here is where I agree with others- we have desperate times and we must win 5 of 6 last games and at least 1 in Brooklyn to have any shot at NIT. Maybe that will not do it, but hoping that good will from last year might give us a push. Too,a LaSalle home game will sell out, and if we beat SJU in rematch, and if SJU no get into Dance, then an NIT at Sold out Palestra would look good. Anyway, my point is that there is now nothing to lose by playing JW w fouls as losing with him on bench is almost silly.
