Yesterday should be the last time for that. This is insane. There are 6 new guys on this team. Gonna take more than 120 minutes to develop something cohesive. I’m totally fine with punting the OOC schedule. Not looking at an NIT berth from this team so who cares how they look in November or even December. OK, 6 new guys. But the ball is still round, right? The hoop 10 feet up from the floor? Same demensions and geometrical spapes they've been playing with since middle school, right? Don't try to make it sound more complicated than it is. They shouldn't look as bad as they have been, like they've never played the game before.

Geez……Penn has a more interesting/challenging non-league schedule than we do with Alabama, Rice, Providence, Arizona or Pepperdine. We’re supposed to get excited over the prospects of playing Drexel, Wagner, Morgan State, Wright State or Weber State, Bucknell, Murray State, and Fairleigh Ridiculous? Didn’t we start 0-10 out of conference 10 months ago? And that was extra pathetic.

But the schools involved are P.I.A.A. members: Pennsbury, Chester, Cheltenham, Neshaminy, West Catholic, and several others. Once the school year starts, they're not permitted to have any organized practices, scrimmages or games as a team until November 18. The P.I.A.A. has been a real hardass about this in the past. That's why I'm wondering if all they have to do is obtain a waiver from the state in order to participate in something like this. Quite simple - the teams are not allowed as a previous poster said to be coached by a member of the coaching staff. Generally they try to find an alum/college player (D2 and D3 practice is yet to start) or a parent who is fair to coach the team. Generally the kids depending on the state are not allowed to wear school issued gear or go by the team name in the event. Advertising for the event generally does show the school though. This is done everywhere and trust me it doesn't break the rules. Thanks! I was just asking and Mr. "phillyhoops4life" went off the deep end. If you print a promotional poster and it says "Pennsbury is playing in a high school age tournament" guess what? It's Pennsbury High School. There's no community called "Bonner-Prendie," it's a P.I.A.A. high school. That's why I asked. I figured it was within the guidelines or they wouldn't be holding it. That's all I wanted to know was how they worked around the strict guidelines. I appreciate your reasonable response.

These are NOT PIAA games... They are just scrimmages/exhibitions featuring the VERY BEST prospects/teams in the area... I'm guessing there's some sort of loophole with the P.I.A.A. for tournaments or something that allows high school basketball teams to play before November 18, 2019? (The date they set as the first day for winter sports practices to commence)

FSU Must be really bad. Not to mention, it tells you a lot about the standards at Plymouth-Whitemarsh, if he couldn't even meet the low academic requirements at an athletics factory like Florida State.

From the January 1, 2019 Washington Post: "NBA assistants normally make, which can stretch from around $100,000 to more than $1 million, depending on the experience of the coach." The latest list of "Top Salaries of Men's Basketball Coaches" in the USA Today leaves off at $200K and there's no one from St. Joe's on the list.

Undersized gym. Nonregulation size court. Grade schoolers could look like all-stars at the Donofrio "Classic." (Yeah, "classic," whatever) Care to share which grade schoolers have looked like all-stars in there? Here's some recent MVPs 2018 Sam Sessom.......... The smaller court actually makes it more difficult to play. Toughness is prerequisite. Ray Carroll gave Kobe all he could handle in that gym The only grade school all-stars would be every other area school beating St. Matt's by 50 in there. Left-handed hitting Chuck Klein hit 29 of his 32 home runs at the Baker Bowl during his MVP season of 1932 since the right field fence was only 281 feet away. It's the same thing with The Fellowship House of Conshohocken.

Why would a coach on the National Basketball Association level give up the salary of a professional assistant coach for a dumpy little school like St. Joe's?

Sub-trivia : La Salle recruit Christian Ray scored 33 points to help the Haverford School beat the Peddie School 86 - 67. Villanova recruit Eric Dixon scored 47 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead Abington H.S. past Sankofa Freedom 85 - 71 om Saturday. Dixon is averaging 30.1 ppg this season. La Salle gets the Inter-Ac League kid who faces no competition. Villanova gets the Suburban One League stud who faces tough competition. Peachy.

I agree with you, but we've already been instructed by the power-posters on this board that nothing matters this season, or even next, so why bother worrying about how they play or if we get wins? Those same "power posters" are the "know-it-alls" I refer to as the jock sniffers who claim they hang out at La Salle's gym all summer and foam at the mouth over 2-star recruits, calling each one a "steal for the program." They're also the same ones that get excited about a win over a Towson-type school and don't understand why that's lowering the standard.

I'm all for looking at the long-term, but seriously, it's not like any of these players have never picked up a basketball before. Can you imagine a Virginia Commonwealth or a Dayton crowd saying, "Yeah, well, 0-9, but ya gotta understand....they're learning a new system."? Not a chance. La Salle has fallen a long way down the basketball rabbit hole in its ability to attract decent recuits.
I'm hopeful that this time next year, things are looking better for us. But at this point, all this team has done this year is convince me NOT to shell out the $5-per-month extra for ESPN+ (which also seems to be having more than its share of problems.). I'll look at the boxscores and catch the occasional game that's accessible to me, but it's not all that interesting to me right now.

It says a lot (in a bad way) that people are still able to get tickets to the Villanova game this late.

A team short on talent with a limited bench should be slowing the game down, NOT pressing, running-and-gunning, or shooting the ball within the first 20 seconds of the shot clock. (And if you're going to insist on using the 3-point shot as a mainstay of your offense, GET BETTER at it.)

Prospects are suspects until they prove otherwise. Just look at this season's product....."Ooooo...we got a 3-star recruit." "Ooooo....I saw so-and-so's workout this summer. He looked soooo good!" Yeah, whatever.......0-7.

It's sad to think that the worst player on Miami is probably better than the best player on La Salle.

Late start. "The Hunt for John Wilkes Booth" on the Military History Channel could wind up more interesting, anyhow.

How many of these guys are we getting and how much are we going to overrate them? Probably as much as I see this board constantly salivating over the underwhelming 2-star recruits we're always loaded with.

"Obviously, we’d rather be 27-0 than 23-5, but I feel like we’re in a good spot." Dixon's not going to be a math major, I'm guessing.

I wouldn't want to see La Salle drop sports if at all possible, but some of the savings they COULD do in athletics is in the scheduling. For example, baseball has their trip down south, as a lot of schools do, and they raise their own money for that. But what the hell are they doing (flying? busing?) going to Kansas and Missouri for 6 non-league games during spring break? Traveling down to West Virginia for a SINGLE GAME? That seems like an unnecessary hemorrhaging of money to me.

That e-mail sounds like the same, old La Salle....pretty much saying "It's none of your business and we're going to do what we're going to do." No surprise. That's why we (the alumni) have the reputation of being apathetic. How much can we care when it seems we're regularly told to butt out?
