Does anyone know what time open practice is tonight? I couldn't find it anywhere on the website.
Will Mr. Raftery be in attendance?
I'm dying to see the new and improved Steve Zack.

What blows my mind is that this is the most anticipated season in 20 years and there has been zero push for this evening. The event does not even show up on the golasalle website. Are you serious, what a poorly run dept. I hope it is well attended, the kids and coaches deserve it.
Also no auction, no fund drive, no material regarding giving yet. Pathetic. When we reach the dance this year G will run out of this place ASAP, he get zero admin support.
God Bless and send a report about the event

Waiting to hear from those who attended this event. Any observations, feedback, how does team and/or players look?
Any recruiting dirt, etc.

I thought that Zack was physically improved. Looks like he has lost his baby fat. Better around the basket and his footwork looked better. Blocked a bunch of shots.
Wright was really light on his feet. Very active. Looks like he is poised for a really impressive year.
Garland is really quick. His shot is better but he must have rimmed a bunch.
The real surprise for me was Jermaine Davis. He is BIG but wasn't fat. He had no problem getting up and down the court. Right now he's learning where to be on each play. Liked his attitude. Can't wait to see how much he improves between now and January.

Has the "Midnight Madness" concept disappeared from college basketball?

I agree with jellybean's first 3 paragraphs but have to disagree with his assessment of Davis. I really hope he was just having a bad day because it didn't seem like he could do anything right. He was slow, clumsy, and often out of position to the point that G whistled practice and sent him off. My biggest peeve with that is his attitude when he was sent off was god awful, he looked like a little kid being put in timeout. For someone that has a long way to go in order to contribute anything at this level, he needs to be able to take a lot of constructive criticism.
My expectations for Davis and Hunt are next to 0 for this year after seeing them in person. They are both huge at least.
Garland's first step is quick enough that he was getting by Galloway, very very impressive in person. Rohan Brown has a much better handle than I was expecting and even took and made some 3's.
Wright looks like he has improved, although I still didn't see him go to his right once. I was hoping he would develop his weak side a little in the offseason. We will see though.
Tyreek didn't practice, I didn't hear why.

Davis needs to shed some weight and I think everyone agrees on that. He is playing too heavy which obviously affects his agility. I can tell you G likes him despite his issues right now. He thinks he can help us down the line and thinks he is tough. In fact he said our players don't like to bang with him.
He is only hoping Davis can give us what Zack gave us last year. He thinks he will make a bigger impact from his freshman to soph year. Is only looking to get 5 minutes a night out of him this year.

Hunt was the one that G was all over for most of the practice. I didn't notice Hunt giving attitude but I honestly didn't pay much attention to him. I watched Davis pretty closely and if he was pouting regularly, I didn't see it. He was upset one time when he was pulled out but I took it as him being more upset with himself than being yelled at by the coaches. He needs to get in better shape, but I thought overall he did okay, has good hands, and did a solid job of running the floor and not lagging behind. I think he will get some minutes. Duren has a shoulder injury. Not sure of the severity or how long he will be out.

Team looked good.
The big problem is the admin. Brother Mike and Dr. Brennan could not lead a horse to water. Until these two are put out to pasture the program will never succeed year in and year out.
It was nice seeing Speedy there.
We need a new arena soon, if not lets head to the Patriot league. With Dumb and Dumber leading the charge that is where we will be in 5 years.
Sad state when you have the best team on paper in 20 years and the powers that be limit the access to the event so that 150 people show up. Way to create a buzz, nice job getting the "other people" involved.
The new "raise the money" guy has not shown me much either. Still waiting for the explorer club paperwork.....it is a little late in the game.
The LaSalle Admin needs to be replaced in it entirety. Amen and got that off my chest.

I've always felt that keeping continuity and a relationship with one of the names associated with our program. No doubt speedy played a big part in setting the program back but he also played a big part in giving us some real national recognition. He never did anything to disgrace the program and was playing with half a deck in the A10.
Not saying he's some sort of saint in the mess of 1995-2005 but he did enough good things and made a lot of great memories for people and for that he should be considered part of the lineage of the program and respected for his positive contributions. I only wish he would have done more and been given more resources to succeed

Wish we could leave any mention of Speedy for high school message boards where it belongs. Symbolizes the demise of La Salle basketball as some of us once knew it.

Nobody mentioned that there have been two volunteers added to the coaching staff. Yves Mekongo Mbala and Matt Sheehan were listed as "graduate managers" on the program that was handed out.

I saw Yves in Shop Rite in Roxborough a few weeks ago getting milk. I thought it was strange that he still lives in the area, but this explains it. Glad to see him still involved.

Speedy=Demise; 30-2; 3 first round draft picks? Please; anybody who was there knows that there were multiple causes; STJ screwing us when they jumped to A-10 without us after apparently assuring us that they would not do that; the jump to the idiotic conference; the lack of support and direction for Brother president and Dr. Brennan after the stewardship of Bob Mullen who was a super nice and well meaning man but maybe not what was needed at the time. As time moved on Speedy had a difficult time dealing with many of the kids who only wanted to know if they were going to play 40 as a freshman. Speedy has been a great man for a long time and his contributions at the high school level should not be denigrated; young men need to be guided by decent men like Speedy.

I'll say this about Speedy...he got schooled by Cheryl Reeve on the proper way to throw a sport jacket during a hissy fit. Nice to see a LaSalle grad keep the Speedy tradition alive..for all the sports world to see...

Speedy's a great man. I know we judge basketball coaches by wins and losses but don't confuse a crappy few years (for all sorts of reasons) against his character. He did so many good things for a lot of people I know who had absolutely nothing to do with the basketball team. He helps out a ton in Manayunk/Roxborough. He's a great person and a true role model.

I will say this, this team is going to be good this year and next. In my opinion bith years will be NCAA years then G is gone and the program is dead. G is the only man who can recruit with the crap hole facilities he is given by an overmatched Admin.
The ONLY reason I support/follow lasalle is the b-ball team, when they go in the shitter which is the road the admin is taking the team, I am done.
Finally look at who goes to the events and the games, old men like me. There is no young guys/gals there. This program is going to be dead very soon just like 95% of its fans base.
Admin get off your arse's, you are a joke.

To all the Speedy supporters: While I don't know the man personally, I always assumed Speedy has/had to be a "great", "nice" guy. What other explanation could there be to allow a coach to have 8 consecutive losing seasons and still be allowed to continue to coach. This including a number of seasons coming AFTER announcing he no longer cared for/about recruiting. Also must take a "great", "nice" guy to sit quietly by and allow a high school gym to be constructed on a college campus and not raise holy hell. No long term repercussions there!! Certainly seems like the legacy of a "great", "nice" guy who only was looking out for the welfare of his program.
