Many people don't even stay for two full games at the Final Four, Define "Many"? They try to force you to buy all three games though, right? Are you referring to the people that ditch on Monday because their team lost Saturday? It was a godsend in 2013 that La Salle sold individual games because I wasn't about to pony up for another game in LA (unless we advanced).

What percentage of fans can be expected to stay for 3 full games? Less 5% is a safe bet. Many people don't even stay for two full games at the Final Four, the average fan shows up at half if they are the late game or stays until halftime of the next one if they are the early game. I was down on the Big 5 tournament but it was a success. They could move it back to the palestra and have two tickets and have the consolation game double header and then standalone championship but that would require moving this to later in season to give time to sell tickets. They could also not gauge people for food and drink inside (Arthur Blank does this in ATL and allegedly they make more money). Neither of these suggestions are likely to transpire though so maybe they should drop ticket prices a bit or allow fans to move down seats for championship game (WVU announces this on their PA after first TV timeout). Yeah, a tripleheader of the top 6 teams in the country wouldn't be full throughout in an NBA sized arena. It's just not how these things work, nor should they be expected to be. That's three halftimes and 2 inter-game lulls you're sitting through. According to the unofficial La Salle podcast (Gola Standard) the event was great and just needs a little tweak. You mentioning this brilliant wristband service idea, plus Joe mentioning $11 beer makes me wonder. If they sold a suite with food and bev all day, would the high rollers who "love the Old Big5" pay big money to get in? I'm maybe good myself for dropping $150+ if they feed me. I wasn't paying anywhere near that to sit in the supporters section and then parking/SEPTA and a la carte $6 hot dogs and $11 drinks on top of that. For those that think my price point is unreasonable, consider this: I once went to Wells Fargo for BJ Johnson's G League game. I paid $12 for an adult courtside ticket, my kid got in free. The ticket came with bottomless popcorn, a cheesesteak , and a soda. Another data point is the Big 5 awards ceremony at the Palestra. For a nominal fee, I had access to all you can eat, cash bar, and ham it up with the coaches. Somewhere between the Big5's extreme ticket prices, and the G-league's extreme free for all, there exists a happy medium, I am certain of it. An all access pass should be $60 for three games of basketball, not $150, unless it's catered (cash bar). Maybe the Big 5 awards ceremony should be at this event and they can honor the recipients of last year's Big5 awards at the nightcap in front of the entire city, instead of playing it to only friends and families! I'm gonna definitely submit this feedback when they put out the next surveymonkey asking why I did or didn't like the format of the Big 5 Classic... Maybe this: $5 Bud lights for the Big 5 Classic. They wouldn't lose money, they'd just sell that much more product, and the beer sponsor (if not Bud, maybe a local brewing company) could even put it all over the news that they were a part of the tournament. Bottom line: no holds barred, Everything should be considered to make this a permanent fixture for college basketball!

It was a godsend in 2013 that La Salle sold individual games because I wasn't about to pony up for another game in LA (unless we advanced). I have been to numerous tournament games including final fours. It’s pretty typical for about 25% of the arena to only be completely in their seats for their games. You can see this on TV as well with mostly vacant sections of seating behind benches in the designated seating. Some people would rather tailgate or get out of stadium. My point is many people only care about one of the games on the day and that’s the one their team is playing in. So it’s not reasonable to expect someone to sit through 3 games. Even 1st round NCAA tournament tickets have two sessions in one day for 4 games.

Interesting ... I kinda always assumed the tourney was closer to the Olympics or World Cup, where >50% is there for the experience versus the direct rooting interest.

I paid like $75 for my ticket. A friends son got a group together, like 25 people. Maybe that lowered the price a little. I'd say 20 of the 25 were there for all three games. If you go back to the Palestra, you could do noon, then 2:45. Clear everyone out and re-open doors at 6 for a 7pm championship game. BUT, there's always a but, one of the biggest issues at the Palestra is and will always be concessions. Not enough of them. Also, not that it's a deal-breaker, but do they sell beer there? It was great to go down to the bar between games and hang out. I had a great talk with Frank Corace after our game. Not really room like that at the Palestra.

With the remodeled arena, one side had a huge bar - Clarkie's - the other side had the same - named Chamberlain's. Crowd was sparse in Chamberlain's, maybe half full, but again, not sure how people got those tickets and how much they were. Those are lower level club seats, the next level up are the private suites that seemed empty. Also, who drinks Bud Light anymore???

There was only 1 Wright choice Touche' Actually Nova is nuts if they ever thought they were not going to take a step back when Jay left. The fans are blind if they think what Jay did can be replicated. It could only be replicated if Jay wrote everything down and told Neptune... this is what needs to be done and why; and Neptune would then have to humble himself and follow the formula. Wright humbled himself and went to Dean Smith and other retired coaches to learn what worked for them and then he also added a nutrition program by hiring a chef for the team. This all became part of Wright's winning formula.

This all became part of Wright's winning formula. Jay is involved. He still makes appearances at some practices and shares feedback. If anything, you could say Neptune is getting lost in Jay's shadow, rather than your insinuation that Jay has left him high and dry! Neptune And Howard were his proteges and still are. Some coaching philosophies on and off the court can be replicated / imitated, but never duplicated. Neptune is definitely not a bad in-game coach, just look at the Fordham transformation he led. He is just getting lost in Jay's shadow.

Regarding attendance concerns, Villanova fanbase didn't show up for their nationally ranked team. Granted, losing to Drexel in the 2pm slot on a Satutday is never fun. But they already had gotten what they wanted with a venue shift to their 2nd home court, and pod format that allowed them to avoid scheduling Temple/La Salle. Now they just have to put butts in the seats. No more excuses allowed about transition years or Jay being out of the picture. Imagine Dayton amd Xavier hosting a tournament in December. They would pack the place, any venue in the state of Ohio, against any opponent, but especially true against local rivals like The Ohio State and Cincy and ecen Wright State which may be a Drexel equivalent. The fairweather front running fake Villanova fans just stay home if they're not guaranteed a win... sad!
As for Miller lite vs Bud lite, I really don't have a stake in that pissing match. It's all terrible. Just meant that for $5 a pop, they'd probably be able to retain a sizeable crowd for more than 2 games, even if it was a beer nobody particularly enjoys.

Question for those in attendance . As the fans starting filtering in for our game with Penn, was there a noticeable pro-Drexel vibe?

And Nova loses tonight to Kansas State. Perhaps Neptune should have called Dr. G for advice on beating Kansas State

Much easier sell for Dayton and Xavier as they are the only teams in town... no NBA or other pro teams around them. My point is that Neptune is no where near the coach Jay expected and nor was Ash... he spoke highly of both and neither came close to delivering to the "Wright standard". Bud Light never was a good light beer due to taste in my opinion. Coors Light was dominant before Miller Lite took over. Bud Light dug its' own grave by not understanding whom they were marketing their product to and they hurt all of the Budweiser beer brands.

Wow, don't say that in front of former poster Explorer Steve. I know he was a long-time, loyal Bud Light drinker.
