Its a decade away so there's time, but I dont see people taking public transportation unless SEPTA is more reliable/frequent and safety/cleanliness improves greatly. El and subway are currently un-rideable outside rush hour times. Would also be interested to see a breakdown of Sixers season ticketholders city vs. non-city residents.

www.instagram.com/reel/C0YAhCBtkB5/?igshid=ZWI2YzEzYmMxYg==Sixers ownership trying desperately to stay relevant. They're definitely the 4th most popular team in the city right now and the fourth in talent and playoff performance behind the Eagles, Phillies and Union... and as the reel above shows, there is going to be continued shrinking audiences ahead for the NBA in this country so long as they discourage the actual rules of the game so blatantly. Like "pro wrestling", almost everyone realizes and admits the league is staged now, with well documented examples of point shaving and tarnished officials, to a degree unlike any other professional sports league. And as soon as Embid's contract is finished being served, they'll likely rather quickly fall behind the Flyers, too. I can't even bring myself to attend an NBA game unless I hear that BJ or someone else of the rare few I still respect as a self-made player is going to be on the bench.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the Sixers to the last 14 months of the Phillies. If the Sixers make an NBA finals this year, they’ll be very popular. They’re never going to be behind the Flyers because it’s hockey. Or the Union because it’s soccer.
The Sixers want to have more control over their schedule. They want to have more control over their experience. At the moment their ability to give dates to the league is hampered because the order goes: Flyers, Concerts, Sixers.

I think this is also largely a ploy by Josh Harris/Comcast to pimp the city and state for mega funds for a new arena so they can make attendance, ticket and ancillary pricing and enterprise value greater with other peoples' money. Franchise values already are insanely valued. Why give them more wealth. Attach the spend to a tax increase and see how popular it is for fans.
Personally I think we don't need another city/state spend since Wells Fargo is adequate. The Sixers and Flyers should focus on the product on the floor not the new location or amenities; there has not been a sufficiently well thought out emphasis on this as reflected in the lack of championships/finals appearances in recent years (and a very long time for the Flyers). IMO it is a red herring gripe/excuse by ownership. It is something that is endlessly debated but shouldn't be. Someone in power should put a fork in it.

They've said they aren't asking for public funds but try again.

Does that include not getting tax breaks?

Does that include not getting tax breaks? No, but their argument is that they will create more taxable revenue than the almost-empty Fashion Directory (formerly the Galleria).

No they won’t. But they will ask for tax breaks. Just like every other large corporation does.
