I haven't read any posts and only saw the second half. I gotta go, so this is quick impressions:
1. Why did that asswipe referee call an offensive foul on Kenney at around the the 12:00 mark. What would compel him to do that after watching La Salle absolutely bust ass to close the gap to potentially 3 points? Instead of a three point play they gave it to VCU for a 3 pointer. Ridiculous, just ridiculous. 2. Just minutes later the asswipe refs call a foul on Kenney which was not a foul. It seems they wanted to ensure that VCU won. 3. The inept commentators never once praised freshman Hikim for breaking the press. A FRESHMAN! I don't think he had even one turnover in the second half bringing it over midcourt. He had just a fabulous game. 4. I gotta go now - a disgraceful job by the referees (which the inept announcers didn't comment on).

(which the inept announcers didn't comment on). They actually did. I heard at least one of them refer to these speculative calls as "should be non-calls in Division 1 basketball." They then probably made it up to them by another time or two saying they made excellent calls. I just wanted to see VCU called for some pushing off, since they managed to catch us on at least two charges on our guys in the second half for just going hard to the rim. We outhustled VCU today and probably beat them on every category on the stat sheet except: Turnovers, by only a slight margin, 16-14, bench points, and Free Throws, 14-3 (there's your difference right there). We outrebounded them 37-35. It didn't help that we must have put them on the line for about 6 shots for two flagrant ones and a technical.

I was encouraged by todays game. Played with a lot more intensity and energy. Our offense was much more fluid and Ash was coaching with a ton of passion and fire.
If we continue like this I'm sure we'll see more wins to end the year. Small victory but after 5 game skid have to take the positives out of what we have.

The kids continue to play hard. When Hykim pushed it and got into the lane he had VCU back on their heels. Problem continues to be inconsistent shooting. Foul shooting was atrocious and we need consistency from the three.

Back from the game. We lost this game because of scoring droughts...again, truly, truly putrid FT shooting and atrocious officiating. We just don't have any natural scorers on this team. There is no one the team can turn to and say, "they'll score" when the team needs it. They shot so poorly from the FT line that it was painful to watch. Some of the free throw attempts were simply atrocious. And then there were the refs. VCU players got away with so may push offs, hooks, travels and charges it wasn't even funny. The flagrant foul calls were flat out ridiculous. The first time it was definitely a play on the ball and the second one was truly laughable. Jerry Heater was flat out bad and Eppley was terrible as well.
Even though Ayinde had 5 turnovers I thought he broke the press pretty easily and without much help from the rest of the team. He has to work a little on his passing, but he's super fast and I think he'll be a good player for La Salle, especially if he develops a short jumper. He did shoot well from 3pt range today, but this seems like an outlier based on past performance.
The other thing that was inexplicable was when they climbed back into the game a lot of it was because of Croswell being fed down low and converting. We seemed to move away from that in crunch time. Phiri also took a few very early in the shot clock 3's when the team wasn't even set up. That was disappointing to see from a senior.

I'm getting really tired of hearing how hard they played and all the same tired cliches. I'm alarmed at how inept they are. When you are playing with lesser talent, you need to be fundamentally sound, and they are not. That's on the coaches. We can blame the refs, we can say our opponents are simply better, but I see a team regressing with no true identity. The rebuild is young but I am not feeling good about what I've seen so far from the Ashley Howard era.

That is kids that are not good enough. If he recruited them then he bears some responsibility but of they were not his kids then it is a product of what was left for him. The fact the kids play hard for him he should be praised for that and that is a great attribute as a coach, On the negative side the team is way too careless with the ball and he simply has not gotten enough out of a porous front court. He has only signed one guy for next year and he is most likely not ready to make an impact next year. He just shot 2-16 at the HoopHall Classic last week. His recruiting has been questionable at best for me. This is our team for next year with Clark and Moore coming in. Both have question marks and the way to improvement is to get lucky with Clark’s health and Ash must develop Ed, Ayinde, and Stone who are the three guys that have at least one thing something the top players in this conference has. The seat isn’t hot for Ash yet and probably shouldn’t at this point even though I am disappointed in what I have seen thus far. Next year will be totally different.

Hikim coming out game. Thought he was great. Some bad calls killed the team. The building was too hot.
Vcu is tough. Always.

He picked up a couple of fouls quickly and he pretty much sat on the bench most if not all of the first half after that.

That was disappointing to see from a senior. finally got a chance to watch the game last night. atrocious foul shooting and that first half drought killed us, but what really hurts is vcu only having 12 fouls called against them the entire game. that's a disgrace. santos-silva in particular got away with murder. him only having 2 fouls was a crime. would love for the refs to allow us to hand check and set moving picks all game without a whistle. the first flagrant call was a disgrace (even though the clowns announcing the game didn't think so), the second one was actually the right call. the two calls/non-calls that killed us were the offensive foul on kenney with around 12 minutes left. he should have been going to the line with a chance to cut the lead to two. la salle had all the momentum. instead they disallow the basket and vcu hits a 3 and they extend the lead back to double digits. that play alone was a 5-6 point swing. i give the team credit for fighting back and getting it to 65-62 with a little over 3 minutes left but the refs swallow their whistle when hyland blatantly walks before hitting that dagger three. maybe some day we'll get a little home cookin' but we sure didn't get any on saturday.

Fair point on Gill having a bad game but he still is not going to move us up the conference standings. I don’t agree with your narrative. Kenney is a nice player but I don’t think he is special or will be an All-A10. He simply does not shoot the ball well enough or athletic enough. Hikim,Stone, and Clark are The best prospects outside of Ed in the program IMO.
