Ash had better put Croswell back out after this time out.

Kimbrough makes me weak. He's useless. Useless? Come on, that's pretty harsh. Useless may be harsh but what is his game? He's not a shooter. Not a slasher. Not a great defender or rebounder. He seems to be athletic. More athletic than Crosswell. But I don't know what particular skill he brings to the table.

Ain't over yet.
You look at that stat sheet and you would think we would be down by 15+.
Great defensive stance and Ray throws it away. Just a freshmen, making a freshmen mistake. Crushing.

This is brutal. UMass doesn't want to close it out, and we turn it over, miss foul shots, take bad shots. This is a bad loss.

Should have been over and back on UMass with 1:05 left, instead we get the ball 15 seconds later and turn it over. Important swing trying to hang in this game.
We have no business being in this game if not for Shaggy’s offense.

Tough game with a tougher stretch ahead. Guys never gave up which is one of the few positives from this game. Ash's guys just never seem to fold even when not much goes their way.
La Salle projected to lose the next 3 out of 4 games. Stealing 2 will be key but we need Croswell and our perimeter D back.

He's not strong in any area, but he's certainly not useless either.

That's a shame. I figured this one for a win. Saturday against George Mason doesn't have a good vibe.

Gotta win Saturday against Mason. We will be dogs in the 5 games following it. Gotta beat a bad UMass team in an empty Mullins Center. Lose to Mason, and this team is buried in the A10.

Here are a few takeaways
1) Did not understand why Spencer saw so little time in the second half. He is pretty good defensively and can hit an open three and finish around the rim. We needed that in 2H. Ray seemed to get a lot of Spencer's time in 2H but really cannot make/create a shot and had 4 bricks that were like turnovers including a few that lead to a fastbreak, like points off turnovers.
2) I like Beatty and he plays hard but he got dead legs in the second half and missed open or makeable shots. That needs to be taken into account by the coaching staff.
3) Hikim had some really troublesome dribbles into traffic, leading to TOs. That needs to get corrected. His low IQ/low hustle plays at the end of the first half led to a 6 point run that turned a tie game/lead opportunity heading into the half into a big cushion deficit. That was a problem especially given how we shot by persons named other than Deas.
4) Good to see Sherif back and I thought he matched up well on O and D against Mass but he got limited minutes. Would have liked to have seen him play more.
5) The refs really gave Mitchell free reign, called way too many fouls on entry passes when there was typical O and D positioning, and essentially protected him and put him on the line when they shouldn't have. That made a big difference in game momentum all game and in the outcome ... BUT ... Ed needs to learn how to play more aggressively/better than he did tonight. His play bore no resemblance to his MVP performance in the tourney championship and early season play. The problems there need to be EXPLORED and solutions need to be made.

Currently, we are projected to go 9-9, 18-12 overall, even with tonight's loss and losing the next 3 out of 4 games. I honestly think the difference between going 10-8 and 7-11 is going to be decided by just a few possessions. The midpack of the A10 is just flooded with solid teams and UMass is one of those teams.

UMass isn't a bad team. They have significantly improved over the course of the season and they have the A10's best freshmen class. This was a Q2 game La Salle was not expected to win. Obviously, losing to Mason isn't ideal but it's a long season. There isn't really a bad team in the A10 outside of GW, SJU, and Fordham.

We need a couple of good shooters and a rim protector is what we need. I'll stand by my 7 - 11 conference projection. I originally said 9-9, but seeing how we've played the last 2 games, that's a stretch. It's conceivable we only win 6. Given that we won 8 last year, do you see anything less than 8 as a step backwards?

Not making excuses but there is no replacement for his contribution.

Watched the game late: We are really in trouble when we play againist a team that has a strong, physical big man. We don't have that go to guy who can take over a game. the closest is Deas. I thought that the UMass group was a bunch of whiners. They were constantly jawing at the refs. I would have rung up a few of them. This team is still a work in progress.

Winning 8 conference games last year was a massive overachievement with the roster as it was, and with the team still adapting to Ash's philosophy. The A-10 was also historically terrible last year, which certainly was a factor in us winning 8 games. The A-10 this year is much improved as a whole, and we have 4 freshmen getting more minutes than most freshmen in the league. 7 wins shouldn't be seen "as a step backwards." 5 wins sure

The problems there need to be EXPLORED and solutions need to be made. 6- I get nervous every time Saul handles the ball. 7. I know he's only a freshman, but when he's defending out of the paint, ball handlers get around Stone with ease. 8. If Ed and Jared continue their sub par play, I can see Diagne taking some minutes away from both. I expected Ed to step up big time against Dayton, and tonight. Didn't happen. Although he did get called for some ticky tak fouls tonight that took him out of the game. 9. Agree with the Sherif point. Needs to see more minutes. 10. Ray needs to hit some shots. 11. Not disappointed by the loss, played hard, and UMASS just hit some Big time 3's tonight as we were inching closer. The 2 baskets before the half didn't help. 12. 3-3 in the next 6 is possible. Just start it off by beating GMU at home.
