had to take family to the airport so watched second half on recording. Very encouraged. This team does not give up. Out played Nova in the second half. The talent is there. Need experience. I think of all the games in the past decade where the team rolled over and died. It fun to watch a team that really plays hard to the last second.

My goodness Saul is lost inside the three point arc. Quick thoughts... Saw Saul attempt 2 very questionable shots in the second half. Not even sure if I would go so far as call them attempts. You cannot do that against teams of Villanova caliber while trying to get back in the game. Kimbrough missed a layup in the 2nd half that would have cut the deficit to 8. Nova hit a 3, to go up 13. 5 point swing right there. Then Beatty missed an uncontested easy second chance layup that would have cut the deficit back to 11. Ray missed the follow up as well. Nova scored on a layup on the next possession, and went up 15. Killer sequence. Team held NOVA scoreless from 18:27 until 11:49 in the second half. That is unreal. Not sure if a Nova opponent has done that in years. Good overall effort though. Enjoyable basketball. Now take care of business starting with Drexel this coming weekend.

Good effort in the second half. First half runs by Nova the difference. Their new arena is ok. Weird design of the building limits things I imagine. Most improvements seemed to be for donors in a special section. Some of their fans really are entitled jerkoffs.

I made some in-game jokes to a Villanova friend about their $65MM for nothing renovations that I imagine wouldn't go over well here or anywhere in public.

I thought we played well overall and showed really well against a team comprised of 4 and 5 star national level talent.
There's a lot to build on and learn from and a good amount to be proud of/happy with, namely
1) the fact that Ed played more minutes than normal and was highly effective against high end talent in a hostile environment
2) the combined stat line of Ayinde/Sheriff was very good, but a little high on the turnover number than I would like; if that can be cleaned up to a 3:1 or higher TO/A ratio, I can live with the 5 TOs against a team like Nova, but it should be kept in check against lower level opponents
3) defensively we were able to neutralize Nova, except we had no answer for Justin Moore; we did very good job containing Robinson Earl
4) Nova had a huge FTA advantage; some of that was taking the ball aggressively on a clean path to the basket; a good amount was home cooking; if we got the same calls when a defender's hands were extended vertically, the FTA gap would have been a lot closer and the outcome less certain for Nova

I’m glad Nova was sandwiched between a run of winnable games where we snagged four in a row and five more winnable games and then Dayton. Should reset our focus to finishing OOC strong

4) Nova had a huge FTA advantage; Death and taxes last 3 years alone: 2017-18 nova 27-35 la salle 4-5 (we took 13 more shots and only 2 more from beyond the arc) 2018-19 nova 19-23 la salle 8-9 (we took 1 more shot and only 2 more from beyond the arc) 2019-20 nova 23-30 la salle 9-13 (we took 11 more shots and 10 more from beyond the arc) to me, it's not so much the number of times that nova goes to the line as it is the fouling they're allowed to get away with. while la salle really battled to stay in the game this year, i never felt they had a chance to win. the previous two years, la salle was robbed.

Maybe its a false memory, but their foul advantage seems to always come very early too. Like it was 8-2, I think, midway through the 1st half. Its not just the totals, its the timing.

I noticed this also, its like the refs lapse forget who side they are suppose to be on for stretches , but I think their bias re-emerges for the most part at crunch time. I find myself asking every year, does Nova really need the helping hand from the officials?

that Villanova squad is amazing. once again, they hold their opponent to single digit attempts (9) from the free throw line despite hand-checking, clutching, grabbing and bodying-up the other team for the majority of the game

G does a great job as a color analyst. Knowledgeable about the game, knows the players, and knows when to interject. Does his homework. Would love to see him doing more games.

The refs were more Penn friendly than they were to us. Penn was close all game but got gassed at the end In contrast we went deeper and outplayed them in the second half but got abused by refs in the FTA delta

G's appearance during last night's Villanova / Penn game on FS1 suggests to me that it's ( more games / other networks ) already beginning to happen for G. G's observations about the propensities of A.J. Brodeur and Saddiq Bey when they have the ball in the paint were particularly astute.

Last year we played our best (IMO) OOC game against Nova but followed it up with 2 stinkers. Agreed that it would be great to keep playing well, with no hangover, In December and win these next 5 games
