Yes, that's what I was saying. If you're planning on spending your time as a La Salle fan only getting excited when we win against a major conference, you're going to be unhappy a lot more often than not. Murray State is a good program, last night was a good win. I EXPECT us to win against the Murray States and Wright States of the world (and the Drexels and Bucknells). And I get that for years we lost those games we SHOULD have won, but we shouldn't be acting like a victory over Murray State is a something to be overly joyous about...it's what should be the norm. I'm happy for the win, but it's also OK to take it for what it is and expect more from an A-10 team. Like it or not, right now La Salle is not considered better than Murray St or Wright St. There's no shame in that. Would I like us to be better than them out of the gate? Sure, but it's not reality. Until the program becomes permanently elevated, I will be okay with us beating any team from any conference that is considered better than us.

Murray State is a huge win for the program. It will very likely end up being a Top 100 RPI (or whatever they use now) scalp. That's a very good team that will likely finish first or second in the OVC, depending on what Belmont does. They're both down from their great seasons last year but are still very good teams.
I think you can make a case that Murray State has been the second best mid-major after Gonzaga the past decade, if you even want to count the Zags in that category anymore. I'm hard pressed to think of anyone else with this resume:
1) They've averaged 24 wins a year over the past decade. I think at least a few of those teams would easily finish Top 3 in the A-10 over that tenure, and probably even win one or two regular season titles.
2) They've had two seasons with over 30-plus wins.
3) They've advanced in the tournament three times, on top of their seven appearances. They almost scalped Butler to make the Sweet 16 the year Heyward's buzzer beater rimmed out in the final against Duke.
4) They've been ranked and even had a Top 10 ranking for a few weeks at one point a few seasons ago.
5) They had the second best player in college basketball in Ja Morant last season who is now the leader for NBA ROTY.
6) They produced another All-American in Isiah Canaan and also put in another NBA player in Cameron Payne.
7) They've had the following coaches come through over the decades before heading out for greener pastures: Mark Gottfried, Mark Cronin, Billy Kennedy and Steve Prohm. Their current coach is next on the list to head somewhere big.
Like... that's a great friggin' program we beat. Let's really not say "we should expect to beat the Murray States of the world." No we shouldn't. And there's no shame in that because the Racers are an awesome program and have been beyond not just the past decade but since 1988. Everyone remembers the famous Princeton/Georgetown 1-16 near upset. But Murray State as a 16 actually took Michigan State to OT in 1990 and almost beat a 2-seed Duke a few years later.
This is something to really hold our heads high about. Beating Murray State is a lot more impressive than beating DePaul or Boston College or some other bottom-feeder in a BCS conference.

Who the hell are we to not be happy we beat ANYONE at this point? We've won 13 or fewer games 3 of the last 4 years. This is a pretty good win. I think some people just assume we should beat any team not in a power 6 conference, and it's nothing to get excited about. I agree, it WOULD be nice if we were in that position, but the fact that it's not even remotely close to the case really ought to be factored in.

Semifinal matchups (Kenpom rankings and his lines): La Salle (200) vs Wright St (135) -5 Miami Ohio (164) vs South Alabama (127) -2 I looked up RPI today for the helluvit to see Wright State and was amused that Temple was 3, Penn 23, and La Salle 58. Wildly different metrics. LOL

Very well said coqui900... A lot of people forgot that last season they literally one of the best NBA prospects of recent memory on their team.. Don't think that didn't help recruiting... Ja Morant will be a great player in the league for sometime..
Very happy for the guys and Ashley.. You can see a group of players that could form a backbone to better result.. Another round of talent influx and you could have the ingredients of something great.. The perimeter shooting already looks so much better even though it is early and sample size is small.. Saul showed major improvement last season in that department and it looks like early on that he is continuing from his 2018-19 campaign. 28% vs 40% is very, very material improvement.. Spencer just looks like a shooter and this makes sense considering his prep career where he was a plus shooter.. Stone and his development will be interesting to watch over the next offseason or 2.. Big men that can show perimeter proficiency do wonders for an offense opening up a defense..
It is very hard to trust anything from Vegas this early.. So much roster turnover..

We are La Salle... we take winning basketball seriously. Not winning our conference since we joined is totally unacceptable and seasons under .500 are not tolerable and 20+ loss seasons are completely humiliating. Our program needs that kick in the ass that hopefully Ash can bring starting this year. Let's get fired up and help our team get to the post-season this year.

Very well said Glitter. our BAR should slowly be raising with the talent that will be brought in over the next few years. We also have to understand that this is a new gig for Ash as well and just exercise patience.

Video stream is only $12.50 for the three games, which is a decent deal for those willing to commit to multiple games in the series. I would like to clarify their pricing, since it is very misleading from their front page. It was actually a $29.99 commitment for the tournament and there is no per game pass sold. The $12.50 quote is only applicable to prepaid annual subscriptions. However a monthly subscription would also include the Drexel game, as well as the Villanova game for anyone who doesn't already have access to FS1. Just don't forget to cancel on 12/7 if you did subscribe.

But I guess it's cool to play pretend and act like each and every single one of us didn't totally advocate for blowing this team up and resetting this program prior to Giannini's departure. Now that we're here, just one season in, we're advancing expectations this quickly? I don't think expectations are commensurate with the reality of the situation.

Look, I want to get to the point where good teams from lower than A-10 level conferences should always be wins for us. But no one who isn't a member of this board thinks we have a better program over the last 25+ years than Murray State.

I shelled out the $12.50 last night to watch the game (plus next 2). This morning woke up and had a charge for $150 for an annual subscription. Hopefully it's not a bait and switch and I can cancel out, but I digress. Watching the game, I was of course impressed with our 3pt shooting. Especially Kenney since game before I criticized for taking too many shots. Ash has clearly brought in talent. Multiple players on this team can score and hit big shots. At the end of the game, the announcer on the telecast asked the color guy, who his player of the game was for La Salle. He went with Kenney because of the 3 ball, which seemed like the obvious answer. Thinking about the question I immediately thought of Ed Croswell and Ayinde. Maybe not being the player of the game. But in my mind they had the two biggest plays. Toward end of game. La Salle turned the ball over and Murray st was on a fast break with a chance to cut the game to 7pts. Ed croswell had a heads up steal when he knocked the ball out of the guards hand, driving to the basket. Ed also had a key basket down low when we couldn't score and the game was getting close. For Ayinde he hit two big foul shots to seal the game. And a BIG TIME rebound on the defensive end over Murray st BIGS to stop a second chance scoring play, again when game was getting close. For any one who didn't watch, this may seem a bit irrelevant to us winning. but those four plays led us to their victory and will help continue to make this program a winning one. it's $12.50 a month only if you sign up for the annual plan. the monthly plan is $29.99 a month. hard to pick a player of the game. every player contributed. the guards/wings did a tremendous job taking care of the ball. 9 of the 15 turnovers were committed by ed and jared and they got hammered on a few of them when the refs swallowed their whistles. shaggy and saul combined for 0 turnovers. tremendous job by the seniors. I agree on those plays by ed and ayinde. crucial hustle plays that helped hold off murray state.
