Did anyone find the last 30 seconds of the first half somewhat odd. La Salle makes a defensive stop with rebound off of a missed three by Iona. La Salle crosses half court and calls time out. I am sitting in the stands thinking OK set up a play for the last shot. Instead, La Salle inbounds and Saul fires up a three...he made it which was great BUT, he gives Iona ample time to come back down the court and hit a three of their own to negate what Saul just did.
Now at the time, La Salle was up by 18 when they called timeout. Worst case scenario, La Salle holds for the last shot and misses, still goes into the half with an 18 point lead. Best case scenario, La Salle holds for the last shot and makes it (a two or three doesn't matter) and goes into half time up a minimum of 20. With the best case scenario we never go to overtime. Just wanted to see if anyone else thought that to be odd.

Everyone sitting around me was saying the same thing...just hold the ball. It ended up being net neutral with Iona hitting a 3, but could have been a miss and Iona gets the momentum hitting a buzzer beater 3 to close it to 15. On the other hand...up 18, I like the aggressive approach. As I learned against Clemson in 1990, and almost learned against Kansas St in 2013...no Explorer half-time lead is safe.

It is a use it or lose it timeout. Agreed on the shot selection.

Would you agree if he missed?

I don't have a problem with the timeout call. I just think that the home team should have been the only team to have an opportunity to shot the ball. As I stated, if they hold for the last shot and misses you still go in at half with an 18 point lead.

I hope it is a mistake and not a strategy move by Ash.

Maybe it was a message that the four guys standing around head tap play for Jordan Price era is over.

Maybe they said "Hey, we're up 21 this game is over."
