No matter what, today was not a good display of basketball. Our upperclassman just don’t produce consistently for this program to be any good. I wish it was different but this year looks like another tough one at 20th & Olney.
It is only one game but we will face far superior competition than we faced today.

I agree that we looked like Slippery Rock today, but anyone that has played a sport knows how mentally difficult playing a substantially worse team is. We should've won this game by 30. BUT, i'll save my pessimism for next weekend

Deas hit a prayer of a 3 off the glass as shot clock was winding down to put us up by 4 with 30 seconds left.

I don’t think there are many minutes for upperclassmen. And there probably shouldn’t be.

And that’s ok.

Sheriff Kenney might be the best all around player on this team. He did everything today.
The team better shoot fouls better or it will be painfully bad this year.

Agreed...But What i was trying to say was the experience players got the team going last year when Pookie Saul and Deas played together they had some continuity....But the Youth Movement is. Not a bad idea...fans has to have patients with the season...

The Rams thought it was a old MAC game. Turn back your clocks.

Lets not over analyze an exhibition game. If we played everybody with a lot of different combinations and lost, I wasn't going to change my name and move to Marcus Hook.

I think it's OK to be concerned that:
1) FT shooting was poor at 50%. Regardless of line-ups, that needs to be better. The two girls shooting free throws during one of the timeouts had a better percentage.
2) Giving any team 14 Offensive boards and 15 second chance points is something that will kill us in the season if not corrected. Doing it against WC is just showing lack of hustle.
3) 15 turnovers and 5 steals against this team is not a good look. Gotta protect the ball better.

My observations - the pep band sounded a lot like a DJ - there are still no seats behind the baskets - erratic substitution pattern seemed to be more out of curiosity than necessity - Combo of Croswell, Kenney, Beatty, Spencer and Phiri was strong defensively - team continued to be not very good at the shooting of the basketball facet of the game - Hikim will be really good but decision making is going to be hard to take this year. Definitely a terrific talent and excited to see him mature - Christian Ray is a really nice player. Struggled shooting but I like his shot. - I liked the team defensive effort. It’s an exhibition game. Score being close is meaningless in my mind because the lineups weren’t necessarily the best.

Iona beat up on their D3 opponent, Mount St. Vincent, 112-79. Out rebounded them 60-33. 21 Offensive rebounds. Not a lot of size on MSV roster.
Probably what you would expect against a D3 team. Iona did make 24 of 27 FTs.
Going to be a tough game on Saturday, and a good measuring stick of where we are as a team.

Is Kenney going to play the point? Any intel on whether he is the projected starter at 1?
What do folks who saw the game think the starting 5 could be?

It is in the middle of NOWHERE in West Virginia. Mt. Pilot from the Andy Griffith show would have been considered a big city if you lived in Glenville.

And to think people thought we didn’t have depth...whether we can execute is up to the team, but we have 10 capable players.

When a double digit returning senior is option 9...
Having said that I like Shaggy and hope he gets minutes and points and maximizes his abilities and opportunities

Maybe I’m “completely wrong” in part because “I haven’t seen either of the freshmen play a single possession of basketball”, but it’s weird to me that both Kenney and Ray would both start over Deas and Spencer. Assuming we’re not punting on season win totals on opening night, I would think you’d ease them in a little.

Assuming we’re not punting on season win totals on opening night, I would think you’d ease them in a little. I'm more than fine with moving away from the notion that experienced players should start over those that may be more talented. Howard has said a few times playing time is determined by performance and effort in practice. He spoke very highly of Kenney's skill set and of Ray's work ethic. TBH with you I've never been too impressed by Deas. Solid player but he can be all over the place at times. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if he got into the starting lineup a few times. The minutes matter much more to me than who actually starts. Spencer played more than most with 25 minutes in the exhibition.
