Sorry, I may find that I am in the distinct minority on this subject, but I fail to see how the University will benefit from taking co-ownership of, publishing and publicizing this Study, which IMO will have the ( intended, or perhaps unintended ) practical effect of potentially alienating and generating embarrassing negative publicity directed toward a significant cross-section of the Phila. business community. The release of this Study appears to have been timed to coincide with the concurrent " Pennsylvania Conference for Women " held this week at the PA Convention Center ( www.paconferenceforwomen.org/speakers/ ). Was our own BOT consulted in advance on the advisability of, and the manner and timing of the announcement / roll-out of the findings of this Study ? What say you ? Female board members outnumbered by men at Philly's colleges and hospitals, new study finds. www.inquirer.com/news/lasalle-wlni-nonprofit-boards-hospitals-colleges-20191003.html

"Was our own (32 male, 7 female) board of trustees consulted" about the release of a statistical study is really, really good. Nice work.

Sorry, I may find that I am in the distinct minority on this subject, The study confirms you are actually still part of a distinct majority.
In my opinion, we should LOVE it when La Salle stands at the forefront of a relevant study that promotes the voice of women, i.e. progress. Would you be more okay with it if public discourse on this subject only run through Temple, instead?

I honestly find whenever one of these debates about timing or messaging comes up, the real issue is usually about the underlying issue itself. Meaning, if you actually think the gender gap being discussed in the study is a legitimate problem and an indication of systemic gender discrimination, then you have no problem at all (and in fact are glad) that the university is at the forefront of a study. If on the other hand, you think it's an overblown issue, or that the gaps being presented are due to something other than gender bias, you probably are more worried about upsetting the business community and things like that.

"Was our own (32 male, 7 female) board of trustees consulted" about the release of a statistical study is really, really good. Nice work. MisterD : Surely you cannot be that naïve. The standard, obligatory academic freedom and academic censorship arguments aside, given the current fiscal challenges facing the University, it is incumbent upon our Trustees to consider in advance the potential foreseeable adverse effects upon the University of any economic or political " blowback " that might be caused by or attributed to the authorship and publication of a Study such as the one in question. The collective composition of the BOTs of the 25 local Health Boards and the 25 colleges and universities named in the Study ( conservatively estimated at an average of 15 Trustees each X 50 institutions ) comes to a " who's who " of 750 top Phila. area corporate executives, philanthropists, high net worth individuals, bankers, attorneys, politicians, CPAs and other influential community movers and shakers. The potential foreseeable adverse economic and political " blowback ", if any, could occur in any number of direct or subtle indirect ways.

Its funny how you view it as "white men will be protective of their turf and punish the university" rather than a chance to lead on an issue all people, including a ton of white men, would support.

Playing right up to the profile pic.. I see

This, this, this! From a values stand point makes me proud of the university. To the extent that it might rankle the powers that be and could seriously face reprisals of some kind it makes me more proud. And it suggests to me if that be their disposition they are the ones who need to be called out.
