You would think baseball would learn its lesson. I still get so disgusted when thinking about what juicing the players (steroids) did to the integrity of the game. Those funny vitamins (Lenny D) were not so funny from where I sit. Ruined some pretty sacred records.

Sacred records built on segregation and/or amphetamines. So sad.

Sacred records built on segregation and/or amphetamines. So sad. Mr.D. In all seriousness, are there any specific records you are referring to--- sacred records...created due to segregation? Undoubtedly, there is truth in what you point out here. A large number of very skilled athletes were kept out of the game and for a long time. Your "sadness" here suggest you may be lamenting the bastardizing of some specific records (like homeruns). Are you? In general, I can certainly join you in "sadness" in response to the terrible injustice caused by segregation. And agree a large number of very talented athletes rights were denied the opportunity to compete with the obvious effect on the talent and performance level in the game. The Phillies organization of my early childhood was shameful, an embarrassment. I am thankful in my lifetime that I got a chance to see the records set by Hank Aaron. Also can you point out similarly, any discernible specific records regarding the effects of amphetamines? I also agree here amphetamine usage is "sad". Save maybe to help folks in need with ADHD. I tried my best to not be snarky here. I invite you to do the same .

All records are tainted, especially anything pre-1947(?). If you want I just focus on one, the HR record passed from Ruth to Aaron to Bonds. Ruth probably retires the leader but who knows where someone like Gibson ranks and we can be assured more talent in the league would have reduced his total. Aaron was next and has admitted amphetamine usage. Bonds beat his record and I think we all agree it wasn’t clean. If I would put an asterisk next to any it would be Ruth.
And if Trout breaks the record and we learn there’s some secret amphetamoid drug used by more than half of baseball, is his record more or less tainted than the rest? Or is he, like Bonds, the best of his era and not immune to whatever the present culture is?
(In my ideal baseball world, someone like Maddux admits PED usage and puts the whole thing to rest.)

“Reduced his total” meaning if you replace ~2,500 career PAs of Ruth’s against awful pitchers with Satchel Paige and the best of the negro leagues, Ruth’s overall total naturally goes down.

That's ok, guys. Some robot in the latter part of the 21st century will set the new HR record. (Cost cutting)
