He is interim for the time being but you know G will convince them to give him the job.

This will be a success if he doesn't end up with a birdhouse on his head.

I hope he keeps the flexibility to cover games on tv. He has potential to make some green there I think G is a very good color man. Congrats to him for his interim promotion.

In the June 5 Inquirer article announcing his taking on the Interim AD role at Rowan, John's quote "“I’m basically a loyal soldier ... I love the school, we have a great president, I love college athletics, and we have a great group of coaches” struck me as a little bit odd ... somewhat underwhelming. Surprising word choices for a guy who, I believe, typically says the right thing. "Loyal soldier" made it sound like he was taking on an arduous task, somewhat reluctantly, almost as a favor to the University President. My perception was/still is that Rowan represents a great career opportunity for John, at a school with an aggressive growth mindset, and presumably the money to do it ... but the following article explains more fully the issues that John is facing as he takes on this new role. While it doesn't negate the great opportunity that lies ahead for him, suddenly "loyal soldier" sounds a bit more appropriate as a way to describe what he is faced with during his interim time period. Read the linked July 10 Inquirer article ( Rowan U Athletics must address gender inequities ) for the highlights. Click on the links within the article (and subsequent links) to read more in-depth descriptions of circumstances surrounding the Rowan Athletic program over the past year. One of the links in the article ultimately leads to a newly published consultant's report released after studying their Athletic Program, another describes steps already undertaken as a result of some of the early findings in the report. Areas of focus included: organizational structure, budget, policies and procedures, facilities and Title IX issues. Since I quoted it above, I've attached a link to the June 5 Inquirer article announcing Giannini as Rowan's Interim AD: Giannini takes Interim AD Position at Rowan

He's doing the university a favor, either serving as a bridge or agreeing to accept an audition versus the job. Loyal soldier, in that context, makes sense.

gymrat, good work. You did a nice job putting this together. I like the Chronicle of Ed article. I want to give G the benefit of the doubt on being a "good soldier". The events he stepped into at Rowan are nothing like the horrible mess he followed at La Salle 15 years ago. G (and God knows I would have canned him as our Bball coach like in 2011) got us back on track after the Cleary violations. He was a good soldier.
Rowan has some dinosaurs that need to re-educated or removed. I think G will get them going in the right direction. He is a bright cat and he may be a future president at Rowan.
Did I really type that last sentence?

The " Timeline : What Happened at Rowan " of actual correspondence, e-mails, etc. included within the March 21, 2019 Chronicle of Higher Education article by Jack Stripling referenced above reveals the rapid unraveling of a classic " perfect storm " of a college athletics public relations nightmare.
It strikes me as ironic that the newly - instituted Department that Dr. G had just recently been hired to help create and head up as Director was / is the Rowan University " Center for Sports Communication and Social Impact ".
