Love the pick-up. I think he could really develop with our staff.

I assume he sits a year instead of asking for a hardship waiver? I've lost track, do we have any more scholarships left for this year?

great news.
i hate to be selfish, but still holding out hope for rob carpenter and an immediately eligible point or combo guard to close out the recruiting. right now, ayinde is the only true point on the 2019-20 roster. i'm sure the keys to the car will be handed to him but still need someone else who can fill in. can't have him playing 38 mpg like st joe's did with bynum. it's too much for an incoming freshman.

Not selfish at all. I am with you. You can't go into next year without more help and expect to turn 10 wins into something significantly better. I think we need some experienced guard help from an immediate transfer but that pond is drying up fast. I am losing hope on Carpenter. Hopefully Ash has something up his sleeve.

We have two now with Moore in the fold. Ok, so how many total. Hahahahahahaha!!! Any P5 transfer we get, I'm all in. Especially the local kids.

We could use another scorer / outside shooter. An experienced transfer or graduate PG would be nice as someone mentioned.

Solid pickup. Hope our internal NCAA gurus can get the hardship mojo magic working again; would be nice to see one more athletic body in the lineup with length. Would look good as follows:
Ayinde, Beatty
Deas, Phiri, Ray
Clark, Spencer
Moore, Stone
Ed, Kimbrough
Would like to see (1) Carpenter (not holding breath) or a transfer slide in to further help our program and (2) then a grad true PG.

I really like this pick up. Jared and Ed don't have great length/ defense. They were good, don't get me wrong. Ed especially cleaned the glass, but having this length and shot blocking potential is huge. I also really like the depth so far. If Moore does get a waiver, it'd be enormous. Sometimes we had a tendency to take bad/forced shots early in the shot clock. Deas was guilty of this a lot and I'm hoping with a more cohesive unit, he doesn't feel that need. If he can play within the system and take shots just as they come, this could be a sneaky good team. Beatty, phiri, Ray, and Ed are all really tough. Not to say the others aren't. But I think these guys are next level, and if we play tough and even somewhat together, I'm excited.

i posted this on another thread
if coach ash is able to bring in a solid grad transfer point/combo guard with some size, that would be his best recruiting job yet. the power 5 schools are snapping up almost all of the good ones.

I don't see the fit on either side. We don't profile as a tourney team with or without a solid grad transfer so who really benefits there? Use the scholarship on a riser or a decommit or even hold it for a 1st semester transfer.

Moore is 6-11, 235 lbs Won't be 20 until August
With a REDSHIRT year, he should be an all-league level performer for 2 years at La Salle... GREAT get for Ash and staff

Even if he sits out a year, 2020-21 will have a very solid roster. Ayinde, Ray, Clark, Spencer, Beatty, Kimbrough, Croswell and now Moore. Along with Ray and Clark, Moore can hit the outside shot. Lots of muscle with the bigs. Expect them to bulk up by their Junior year.

I think the landscape of college sports has changed irreparably with the transfer portal. I think we have to get the hardship waiver for Moore and go guns a blazing with everything you have. You can’t be mediocre or best or you risk losing players to P5 schools and other winning programs. The Portal was set up so the good get better and can pick up quick talent infusions from the minor leagues whenever they decide to. If you don’t become a winning program with an identity, you’re just developing D league talent for the P5 schools.

Eh, I don’t really agree. If they do away with the year sit rule (as they should), then I’ll agree the P5 are the clear beneficiaries. As it stands, aside from a guy like Paschall I don’t see a ton of transfers up where they’re willing to wait a year and commit. The immediate holes can and are mostly filled with top 100s (who later enter the portal and ...

I really hope Moore just got screwed by Crean leaving Indiana. Two people I talked to today were lukewarm but you have to like the size.

Maybe "playing time at La Salle" wasn't Carter's #1 priority for his senior year?

Diehard, that makes sense to me as well. On top of that, I believe Carter's minutes and significance declined as the year progressed last year and that he had little early impact in games he started. That's not a good recipe for an effective floor general.

Traci Carter was not going to move the needle for us. I have no problem that he transferred. It is up to Ash to figure it out but I am okay letting Ayinde play as many minutes as possible to develop him into a high impact point guard we really need him to be.

Didn't hurt Kyle Lofton.
I think we have options on the roster to play point when Ayinde is off the floor. Rather just buy in until I'm proven otherwise.

I’ll defer to Ash but I have to believe Lofton’s prep experience was no better than Ayinde. There is however a difference in size that could have an impact on how Ayinde adjusts to A10 play

jared bynum is a better comparison to ayinde. he was noticeably fatigued late in the season. plus lofton got to play off the ball quite a bit since st bona had another true point (kaputo) who averaged 20 minutes a game.
god forbid ayinde goes down with an injury for any length of time. there's no other natural point guard on the current roster. david and saul would do a decent job if needed, but their strength is playing off the ball.

Great signing by Ashley... Moore will provide impact..
Big men who are competent shooters play at any level of D1 basketball..
2 spots open still for Ashley to do work.. Guard and/or small forward would be nice..
Open up the floor!!
