I'm uncomfortable defining a person by one bad decision. I'm not saying he should be defined by one bad decision...but I'm also saying it's a bad optic to name an award after the guy. Yeah..it was an "accident"...but one completely preventable. We named our arena after a coach that had a team barred from the NCAA tournament for a series of completely preventable violations. A friend of mine texted me last night when he saw the Twitter feed and said, "Is that the award for the player most likely to drive drunk?" I get the joke - but it was a lazy joke. That friend should have researched the meaning behind the award and Rasual's connection before making light of it. I bet there's more meaning beyond his association than half us could even speculate.

I thought it was infractions from previous coaches, no?

Gola? He took over after the violations that barred them, right? Or are you talking about Coach TruMark? The tweet itself from the school provided no context, so...it left it up to interpretation.

Can this thread be deleted before all top scorers in program history are torched. Just drive south and topple a few Confederate General statues and get the venom out that way. š

OK, I will settle this: The JimmyWhispers Award. Other suggestions: - Duke Gola Award - Doplhins2 Optimism Award Howard Dean - honorary Dolphins2 Optimism Award recipient... or Dolphins2 in the flesh?

I was trying to prove a point that even the great Tom Gola could be found to have faults if you dug deep enough. Rasual wouldn't have been named for the award if enough people didn't think so highly of him, so I'm fascinated that it's not good enough reasoning for us.

But your point was about violations he didn't commit, so it really didn't make the point.

Jim Harding was responsible for the violations. Gola succeeded him and was stuck with the penalty leaving the 1969 team ineligible for the tournament.

He (Gola) had NOTHING to do with those violations. NOT A FREAKING THING. He SAVED the program.

Iām not deleting or locking anything. Even the posts I disagree with here personally are well within the range of things that are fair game for discussion.

He didn't force his wife into the car, or force her to get high, also. You're actually going there? You're actually blaming the victim for getting in the car with him?

Agree, who would ever suggest toppling historical statues or think Tom Gola was the cause for violations!

Go to Iraq and let the board, including you, know if you were upset that statue came down?

Let us know what the people there think of you going there...and giving your opinions on the statue of someone that killed thousands of his own people, that is all.

Agree, who would ever suggest toppling historical statues or think Tom Gola was the cause for violations! Let's work on context clues, shall we, Steve? I said "today", which means I was referring to someone who posted some drivel today. Context clue #2 was that I immediately posted right after your two inane posts (I know, I know, most of your posts are inane so it's a broad statement on my part). And here's context clue #3. I was talking about you, Steve. Is everybody clear now?

Hey guys - durenduren just made a mistake. It happens. BTW though, it was pretty tough for me to give him a "like" on that post. But I have to continue to do it for him and Gnocchi on every post due to the quality of their avatars. (as I've said before).

Why is the school naming an award after a guy who killed himself and his girlfriend while speeding drunk with meth and weed in his system? I know Rasual is loved here and we are never ever allowed to say anything even remotely critical about him, but wouldn't someone like Michael Brooks be a better choice to name an award after? Are these the lasallian values this guy's always going on about? Someone needs to tell me who he thinks he is always handing down judgements and lectures the way he does all of the time. What an asshole. The whole thing about your buddy texting you the quip about drunk driving, you should be ashamed of yourself. If that's not in poor taste, I don't know what is. Thankfully your school was more concerned with honoring the legacy of someone that was always a proud ambassador of this city and your school than the "optics". Seems like you're more concerned about your social circle accruing fodder for trash talk than anything. But go ahead and cherry pick religious values when it suits your narrative.
