That seems to be the word. The hawk board is in an uproar. They wanted Jameer.

Billy Lange has the Sixers position as a plus to young kids but he sucked as a coach at Navy.

They're talking about Jameer getting a Rooney Rule interview. Yep, that's taken an ugly turn.

We assume recruiting at Navy is nothing like recruiting in Philadelphia or a mid-major, correct? Weird choice?

Maybe just maybe Billy Lange is the right guy for the job. I'll entertain that.
I thought he was in the running but this hire (if it happens) will most likely be one of the most underwhelming hires in college basketball when all is set in done.
I'm shocked this is the decision they are coming to.

Could be a very interesting hire for them - local player, has lots of connections, has pro connections he can leverage in recruiting. Has head coaching experience at D1 and D3 but in military settings.

Has head coaching experience at D1 and D3 but in military settings. It's an interesting hire, yes, but nothing on this guy's resume inspires confidence. There are over 10 other candidates that are much more qualified. They essentially made a loyalty hire and knowing Philly's history with that it doesn't usually end well.

All things considered, it's a difficult job with big shoes and expectations to fill.

Agree. this could either be awesome for them...or blow up dramatically and be awesome for us.

All things considered, it's a difficult job with big shoes and expectations to fill. I agree being the head coach of a D1 basketball program is a difficult job but SJU isn't just another head coaching gig. I hate to say this but SJU is arguably a top 75ish program in the country. We love to be haters but they are. SJU throwing Phil out the door for Billy ******* Lange is not a good look. They should of done better than this.

This is not the "oh shit goddammit" hire I fear they could have made (like say the top assistant off the reigning national champs?).

Why would a coach on the National Basketball Association level give up the salary of a professional assistant coach for a dumpy little school like St. Joe's?

If you're reading the St. Joseph's of PA board (and, in this outlier instance, you really should be), it sounds like they're AGAIN holding some kids hostage who have asked for their release. Enough that a few normal people are calling the school out and others are arguing its actually the right thing to do "for all involved". Things are spiraling and its super upsetting and I'm just hoping for the best for everyone involved because no matter what they're our neighbors and Big 5 brothers and sisters!

From the January 1, 2019 Washington Post: "NBA assistants normally make, which can stretch from around $100,000 to more than $1 million, depending on the experience of the coach." The latest list of "Top Salaries of Men's Basketball Coaches" in the USA Today leaves off at $200K and there's no one from St. Joe's on the list.

The other Joe posted on their board that the school has cancelled this year's MBB Banquet on Sunday April 14th. Said the school will honor the team "privately" on campus. I could say something but I won't.
