Also, I think it’s hilarious they are on the verge of shutting down their board after this firing and member’s meltdowns. Wow, just read. Their inability to deal with Delgreco and his veeeeeeery different vantage point is insane.

Which is stupid and bananas.

My thing is, its not like he pretends to be a member of the fanbase and then posts in support of his kids, he's very clear about his position and on whose behalf he's writing. You can believe he holds sway or not but that's not really what matters, its good to look beyond the bubble and get the kid-side perspective from time to time.

I think most of us here had the perspective that Ashley Howard was our best candidate for HC no matter what his race, religion or political affiliation was. My interpretation (and I might be wrong) was that Del felt he needed to push for Ashley by pushing BB on a racial issue. Coach Howard did not need the help.
I don't dismiss Del's perspective and I regularly read his stuff.
Now, on to basketball.

I think that was another different approach to the same conclusion. We all wanted Howard, us because he was best for the job and Del because he was best for the job and because of the greater context. If you contrast the demographics of Philadelphia born players and the Big 5 (plus St. Joseph's of PA) rosters versus the demographics of the head coaches, I totally get an absolutist stance. Sometimes the passive approach allows an issue to continue.

Ditto. Give Del credit, he's been consistent with his stance and position, and never hid it. I think he's said some controversial things, notably about race and head coaches that I thought toed a very murky line that forced a connection that needed to not be made, but he unquestionably is connected and provides a valuable insight.
Now, if he could tease that website a bit less...

Yeah I can't imagine being the person on the Saint Joseph's of Pennsylvania message board that basically said, "Ban from this opinion board a guy that is directly connected into the local basketball / recruiting scene who can bring insight as well as his opinions, or I'll take my meatless input and $0 in subscription fees and go home." How do you think that is going to go?

Help me understand what Del has done for Big 5 basketball in the last three years. He acted like he had an effect on, and pulled the race card, for the Ash hire ... when we were going to hire him with or without del’s influence. Has he delivered players? Nada

The players and coaches sure seem to appreciate his influence.

Nada Let's let this play out. It is a long journey. I am looking forward to next year. Based on the level of talent we have I am hoping that we are above .500. Then on to becoming an A-10 top tier team soon after. Trust the process

“Has he delivered players” is the exact same “for us” expectation I was referring to above. He’s not for us, he’s for them. Explicitly and honestly so.

“Them” being the players right, D?
If that’s the case why’d he have to grandstand over the hire and throw mud unnecessarily at the school and Bradshaw.

If that’s the case why’d he have to grandstand over the hire and throw mud unnecessarily at the school and Bradshaw. hypothetical for the board. ashley was la salle's #1 target from the beginning, strictly on merit. others were interviewed only in case ashley said no. but what if legler was hired? la salle would be getting the same treatment from this guy that st joe's is getting now. how would everyone here feel about that?

Them being the players in my comment, but there are also coaches he seems to be closer with. And I already addressed the coaching issue above. I don't agree with all of Del's phrasing or possible insinuations, but I also don't think presentation should invalidate the greater point.

He’s not for us, he’s for them. Explicitly and honestly so. Undoubtedly. But I also believe Del is for himself too. He looooooooves his connections, and really loves to come around just to tease things to drum up attention for his brand. He's smart about it, no doubt, but I think that angle is also driving the anti-Del rebellion over at Hawk Hill - it's just old and tiring sometimes.

No doubt. But I think he's stretched his defacto authority and watered down his credibility by discrediting Lange and his hiring in favor of Bruiser and Jameer. It might help his brand, but it doesn't mean he's right.

It might help his brand, but it doesn't mean he's right. In his defense, 90% of the SJU board wanted to hire Jameer.

When someone isn’t pretending to be objective, you don’t have to worry if they’re right.

Still wondering why Nate James wasn't in the mix or wanted by their board and Del over Jameer.
