Big win to keep pace with the top half of the A10... Only 1/2 game back of 5th place. Pretty surreal to be in this position here in mid-February, and while the schedule stiffens coming up we can play with anybody at this point and will be exciting to see how we finish heading into Brooklyn

After the first handful of games, out of all our freshman, I was highest on Kimbrough. I still believe he is going to develop into a solid A-10 forward. He has the ability to become a consistent double digit scorer. Clark was an unknown who excites me when healthy. I felt Crosswell was going to have a steep learning curve. Turns out I was wrong. He has found his niche. A true freshman who has developed into a dominant rebounder 2/3 of the way through his first A-10 season. They may be G recruits but Ash is helping them find their true potential. La Salle is on the right track.

Didn't see or listen to the game. But is Croswell becoming a beast or what? !6 boards with 10 offensive? Nobody does that type of thing anymore in a La Salle unifom. Would love to see him become the John Pinone of La Salle.

Again, another game we would’ve lost in prior seasons. Proud BELIEVE Last year, this game would have ended in Gisaster.

Ash can coach! This team is miles ahead of where they were. Real grit and fight down to the close. I loved Pookie taking the last shot to the rim and not pulling up.👏

2 A-10 Road games coming up. A few months ago, I'd say 0-2 is a lock. Coming back 1-1, I'll be happy. 2-0, I'll be ecstatic, and fighting for a top 4 spot in the standings. Explorers have been in EVERY A-10 contest, and beating a top tier team in the last few seconds is a real confidence builder. 8 man rotation seems to be the way Ash is going forward with. Seems to be working, and I'd be hesitant to change as well. Tough for guys like Moultie and Cheddi, but you stick with what is bringing you W's. Croswell bringing his A game to the floor, but after a rough start to the season, David Beatty is shaping up to be a very nice player. Shooting around 50% the past handful of games and looks real comfortable on the floor.
With Croswell playing the way he is, why is he coming off the bench?

Really great win last night. Fun game too.
Based on the standings and our schedule the rest of the way, it wouldn't be very surprising to end up with an 8th or 9th place finish. And we all know what that means.
I did some quick research and looked at our last 10 seasons. In those 10 seasons, we made it to 9 A-10 tournaments. And in those 9 appearances, we played in the Thursday noon game 4 times (though it feels like it was more like 7 or 8 times). Of those 4 times, we only made it to the A-10's Elite Eight once (2015 - lost that noon Friday heartbreaker to Davidson). The other three times, we were eliminated in the Terrific Twelve round.
New coach, new results? Let's play it safe and finish 7th or higher just in case.

The cool thing about the way Ed plays is that he is like a silent Assasin scorer who you don’t pay too much attention to and then you look at the box score and are a bit shocked to see he dropped 29 points on you. Ed is the silent assasin of rebounding.
Early on it was obvious Pookie was having a great game. Then they threw a blanket on him (and held and hand checked him off ball which they didn’t call) and he had to grind out the last few buckets. With the way Ed positions himself and has a a great nose for the ball and high effort, I don’t think you can stop him the same way. I watched him last night and didn’t notice anything unusually different about his play and then I looked at the Glaser board and saw that he had 15 rebounds and I was like “Day-am!”
It was even more impressive when you consider that Duquesne has a number of really big dudes - some serious specimens. That is where Ed’s BBIQ around the rim really shows

Best Explorer rebounder since K'Zell Wesson? K'Zell was the best offensive rebounder I have seen at La Salle since following them back to 1984. Lionel is the best all around rebounder in my opinion. Think I would probably agree with that. K'Zell couldn't be moved and would eat up anything near the bucket. Lionel covered more ground and rebounded outside his area a little better. Ralph Lewis had some absolutely monstrous rebounding games, but wasn't as consistent as Lionel. I think the old-timers would probably say Gola, Foust and Brooks are the best rebounders the school ever had. I'm not old enough to have seen any of them, and in fact, in Foust's day, rebounds weren't even tracked yet. Back to Eddie, he seems to have a chance to join the short list of the best rebounders we've ever had. Def best offensive rebounder since at least K'Zell. Jerrell Williams was an excellent offensive rebounder, as well (though he negated them all with TOs and bad shots), but wasn't quite this good, IMO.

Yeah, Jerrell was more of a bouncey rebounder. K'Zell is really the perfect comp here.

i was thinking k'zell too. he was relentless on the boards.
looked him up online last night. he ended up having a great pro career in europe and actually played until 2016. he's now a successful businessman franchising a chain of fitness centers in the atlanta area. k'zell was a little on the chunky side during his la salle days, but when he went pro, he started taking better care of himself and has been carved out of stone ever since which i'm sure allowed him to play for so many years.

No discussion of La Salle Explorers MBB all - time rebounders can fail to include Hall of Athletes selection, All Big 5 and Big 5 Hall of Fame inductee Jim " Skyman " Crawford ( 1971 - 1973 ).
[ Later became head basketball coach at Camden Catholic H.S. for 35 years, amassed 714 wins, seven South Jersey Non-Public A Championships and three New Jersey Non-Public A State Championships. Succeeded as head coach by his son Matt. ]
77 games ( 1971-1973 ) -- 732 rebs -- 9.5 rpg [ Note : K'Zell had 716 career rebs. ]

If the stat were kept, JWill might have a crack at being the NCAA’s all-time leader in rebounding your own missed shots...

I agree with Mik that Lionel was the best all around Explorer rebounder that I have seen play although Michael Brooks was close. However, the numbers that Tom Gola put up were mind blowing. I believe he averaged 20 boards per game his last 2 years on teams that both went to the NCAA finals. For the longest time he was the all time rebound leader in NCAA history. For all I know, he is still number one. Over 2000 points and 2000 rebounds for his career. Will probably never be matched.

I have a lot of rebounding numbers for the La Salle legends (missing rebounds for maybe 20 Gola games or so, though). Here's how they stack up in some things Player | RPG | <10 Reb | 15+ Reb | 20+ Reb | High | Brooks | 12.0 | 33 | 35 | 3 | 20 | Durrett | 12.0 | 18 | 16 | 2 | 22 | Gola | 18.7 | 1 | 2 | 37 | 37 | Simmons | 10.9 | 48 | 21 | 2 | 21 |
So Gola was only under 10 rebounds once, was over 20 37 times, etc. But obviously the game was much different in Gola's day. More rebounds were available thanks to the horrific shooting. So I looked at how many total rebounds were available by adding La Salle's rebounds for the year with their opponent's rebounds for the year and then adjusting the numbers for missed games in the cases of Durrett and Brooks. Here they are ranked by the percentage of total rebounds available that they grabbed (bearing in mind that an average player would grab 10% of these rebounds if he played every minute of every game). I mixed in a couple other names as well. Opponent rebounds weren't available for 1 of Gola's 4 seasons, so I estimated them based on the other data. Gola: 19.1% K'Zell Wesson: 17.2 Brooks: 15.3% Simmons: 14.6% Joe Bryant: 14.6% Durrett: 12.6% Little surprised to see Durrett so low, but there were lots of rebounds available on the teams he played for
