This team is close to being very good. Their problem is interior defense. If they can figure out a way to keep teams from scoring easy lay-ups, then this team will be force. Don't know if they have the personnel this year but hopefully going forward. Your best defensive big can't foul out.

Don't know if they have the personnel this year but hopefully going forward. I think this is right. I like what I've seen from some of Kimbrough and Croswell recently, but they're young and got worked by Reuter today. It seems like we gave a up a ton of dribble penetration in the second half too. But the offense has come a really long way.

The 3 bigs was a let down today...and i still want to see some zone at some point to disrupt the opposing teams flow...

Thank you cjprof. I just checked and I don't get that channel anymore. I know I used to get the Philly channel but they must have rejiggered my package I'll have to listen online. For future reference, games produced by stadium do video stream online.

The 3 bigs was a let down today...and i still want to see some zone at some point to disrupt the opposing teams flow... Agreed. Great game to watch on TV today. Bit of a drought with 2 minutes left in the game, but can't win them all. Especially on the road. Think we went to the three a bit too much late in the game. But I loved the pace of the game. 8 games left. 4-4 would beat expectations, leaving us at 9-9 in the A-10. Need that first win against an upper tier team, and I think more will come. But I LOVE the way this team is being coached.

I was at the game today.Nice support by La Salle fans and very spirited. The arena is nice but less than half full. Wonder what it takes to have support when they are in top 4 in the A10? The band is awesome. A tick below VCU but we would kill for a band like that. They had every instrument you could think of. Must have 150 members.
I don't know if this was mentioned on the broadcast but Ted (TV Ted) Valentine was AWFUL. After the first media timeout in the first half he starts shouting and gesturing to Ashley to knock it off and keep quiet. During the under 4 time out in the first half, TV Ted did something I never saw a ref do. SIX separate times he came over to the La Salle bench and let almost all the coaches have a piece of his mind during ONE timeout. Then after another stoppage he came over to Kenny Johnson and had another conversation with our coach.
No surprise he calls a Technical at the start of the second half on both players. Of course he stood across the court and never made an attempt to tell the players to take it easy. He just fired a couple of T's. It was also terrible to hear him yapping at players like Carter and Phiri. Seriously I only remember one time where they went over to a GMU player or the bench.
The bench technical on Ashley wasn't even called by Ted it was another ref. I guess he needed to get into the act.
This crew allowed a critical double double by GMU right in front of the La Salle bench. Pookie is clocked when trying to call timeout on the loose ball. #31 for GMU had zero fouls for the game but should have been called for half a dozen illegal screens and TWICE lunging into Croswell to draw the foul. He initiated contact but no call. Ed was straight up with his body and arms. Beatty called for a block that was clearly a charge. Tough day when it's 21-11 in fouls on the score sheet.
I know one player seems to have drawn the ire of the board but this was truly a game where there were a dozen little things that need to be corrected. By everyone.
This team battled the whole game. Got off to a slow start especially defensively (Ashley was not happy and let them know it). They got it to the point with less than two minutes where they could pull it out but didn't. Need to keep working and listen to Ashley who is always teaching.
Better days are ahead.

This team really plays hard. Even though we lost, I felt like we gave a great effort. I have to think in years past this would have gotten ugly.
I think one of the best improvements is the spacing and ball movement Ash has implemented. Gone are the days of stagnant offense, pass around the perimeter and throw up prayers as the clock runs down... those one and done offensive sets that never gave us a win unless we were shooting exceptionally well. I truly think that is one of the biggest differences as to why we are in games that we wouldn’t have been in years past.

The 3 bigs was a let down today...and i still want to see some zone at some point to disrupt the opposing teams flow... I think the 3 bigs just came up against an experienced veteran that was also BIG. I believe he's something like 270 or 280. The guys a walking tree trunk. I agree with you about playing some zone. I thought they should have tried throwing a zone at them with about 8 minutes left just to see if they could throw them off their game.

Great efffort. Loved the fight.
I thought we had some mismatches where they had multiple guys at 6’4 to 6-6 and we only had Saul to match up. That left us a bit vulnerable. Hopefully Spencer and maybe a grad transfer can help in those slots next year
Very happy with the team’s development.

Watched the last ten minutes of the first half, looks like a whole different team. The way the ball's moving, the confidence, the energy. Excellent. The free throw line cost you guys again, it wasn't that GM ran you guys out of the gym.

Like what I saw vs gm this game - maybe could have pulled it out - prob not w the way they faded in 2nd half of 2nd half - but this gang - unlike under dr D - their fighting under ash ... going to da basket to score & kick butt - maybe not a final 16 :-) but this season got a team I like da way their looking! & as someone said earlier in this thread, they gotta start getting somebody to stop those easy deep in post layups on us!

GMU is better than their record. One thing that really stood out for me was the shooting. I can't believe how smooth Phiri shot is. Also, got to give Ashley Howard a ton of credit with this offense. He really knows how to call a play out of a timeout. It's been a consistent theme this season for him. I believe this team just really lacks a true center which is why I think they get beaten inside more often than not. Brandon Stone should help with that next year.

Gone are the days of stagnant offense, pass around the perimeter and throw up prayers as the clock runs down... NPOA The ball movement to find the open man is outstanding. Caught the game in a jet-lagged state on Stadium TV after midnight. The Explorers went 3-0 with Gnocchi in the southern hemisphere. Considered asking Ash to kick in for an extended stay through March but, on further reflection, concluded that might come off as a tad presumptuous...

Sounds like a new Explorer Town challenge for the Day of Giving... Funny you should mention that. I was thrilled to see Jellybean yesterday at the game (an unexpected but pleasant surprise) and while we didn’t discuss financing Gnocchi’s jet-setting lifestyle, we did chat about the third annual Jellybean Challenge. More details to come.

Apropos of nothing, "Charm City" might be the best big city nickname.

Apropos of nothing, "Charm City" might be the best big city nickname. I'm partial to a few city nicknames in Alabama, to wit:
Cedar Bluff – Crappie Capital of the World
Gordo – The Armpit of Civilization
Dothan - Condom Capital of the World
