I'm wondering how we are coming to the conclusion here that a team coming off a 10-win season has "depth". if saul played the entire 2018-19 season, that would have been a .500 team at worst. we return five significant contributors and add one of the best recruiting classes in the league along with transfers scott spencer and moustapha diagne. those six more than make up for the loss of pookie and traci who were the only significant contributors to leave. so yeah, this team has depth. no true superstars but a roster filled with guys who are all a10-level talents. if you don't believe me, look at the roster rankings of the a10 on verbal commits, la salle has the highest average stars per player ranking in the league. verbalcommits.com/conferences/atlantic-10

Number of stars doesn't tell me how they are adjusting to being away from home, college workload, how they adjust to the physicality of the college game, an unfamiliar system, etc. We've been excited before about freshmen that never quite reach their potential, so I'm just not ready to say we have depth until we see them on the court.

What the goal is, a solid and healthy 7-8 man rotation. That will take you a long way up the A10 standings.

Agreed. With this group of guys, it’s hard to pick that 7. We can maybe pick 2 or 3, but the rest is pretty open. And it’ll be even tougher next year with Moore and Clark stepping in who will both start.

These are his guys, so of course he will say that. G said the same things. Remember the "Miles is playing like an upperclassman" comment from G before he had ever played a college game? Look, I hope we go 10 deep and have guys that can step in and contribute when the inevitable injuries hit, but I'm not ready to say we have depth yet. Let's give it a month or two and see how they play at this level.

I think the key will be Ayinde. If he can adapt to D1 and run an offense in his first year anywhere close to Kyle Lofton (the Bonnies’ Frosh PG last year) he will produce some easy finishes and open looks the likes of which we haven’t seen in a while at 1. If he can make everyone look good we will have a team lineup that the media will call remarkable “year over year improvement.”

Yep. I’m excited to see ayinde settle in. Has potential to be the kid you feel like has been on the team for 7 years

Ayinde = Reds Smith. I’ll take that.

Unbelievable HS game last night at the Diane Mosco Shootout. #4 Paul VI ( Vienna VA) 130 and Archbishop Wood 128 in SEVEN OT's. Yes SEVEN OT's. Probably the greatest HS game I ever saw and right up there with the Duke-Kentucky NCAA game I saw. Paul VI hit a three from NBA distant at the buzzer to tie the game at the end of regulation. Wood's Sheppard hit a three to send the game into another OT.
This gentlemen next to me actually kept score on a yellow legal pad. He was on his second or third sheet of paper. Told me at one point Wood's Sheppard had 3 points at the end of the third period. He then scored 31 or more after that. The last 2-3 minutes Paul VI doubled teamed him.
Many college coaches there. Jay Wright and Billy Lange were there. Ashley along with Kenny and Kyle were prominately standing on the baseline. Kudos to Kyle, he stayed there to the bitter end.
Several Nova players were there. Collin Gillespie (Wood) and Jason Crider plus others.
I hope at some point I can get to look at the boxscore.

Kenny was a long time assistant to Glenn Farrello at Eleanor Roosevelt and Paul VI. He also taught at Paul VI. Brandon Slater of Villanova played there. Great WCAC program.

Thank you. It is also my understanding that Wood had to meet at the school at 4am this morning. Game ended a little before 1130pm. They are flying to Hawaii for a tournament. Sleep well everyone.

Norm Eavenson said it was the most remarkable game he has covered in 56 years of covering basketball. Sounds like it was just amazing.

If you think that was great, go to Northern Va and catch Paul VI any time they plY their arch rival O’Connell. Insane
We continue to take the program up and we will get high tier (probably not highest tier) players from the WCAC.

Can someone please answer this question: Does Anwar Gill play for the same Academy as Ben Simmons, RJ Barrett, etc?

Anwar Gill does not play for the same teams that Simmons, Barrett and the rest of the stars have played for. The main varsity team is coached by Kevin Boyle (Former St. Patrick's coach) and their roster is here mvasports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster I am not sure what the CBD National team is but it is not the same team that is ranked #1 in the country year in and year out coached by Kevin Boyle. Below is the roster than Anwar Gill is on. mvasports.com/sports/cbdnatl/roster

Any word when Brickus will commit . Ash should be trying to get him can score in so many ways and can pass the ball without turning it over at a high level. Averaged 5 assists a game and only one turnover a game in the UA circuit. Very under recruited and would be a steal if we can add him to our squad.

We are not involved with Brickus any longer. Del is hoping SJU will get involved. Looks like MAAC level schools are recruiting him the hardest.

Just briefly watching his clips, he looks like he will be a really good MAAC player, he doesn't seem to have super elite shooting or quickness which most undersized guards in the A-10 have. To me, he seems a bit redundant with Ayinde on the roster. I also wouldn't be surprised if he did a year or two at MAAC level then transferred up, similar to Daly at SJU of PA or Francis did from Wagner to Richmond. A prep year I think could also serve him well to get quicker and stronger.

Wow, seems crazy to me to ignore a kid who can create offense so easily. This program needs that badly. Passed on another undersized District 1 guard 20 years ago. Marques Green. Lit is up for 4 years at St Bonaventure
That said, I'm removed the situation. Knowledge of him comes entirely through reading. It's possible he can't defend the way we want. No idea if he's getting his buckets efficiently, etc. Will hopefully get to see him in district playoffs and all the best to him wherever he ends up. Fact of the matter is, special scoring talents like him are the best reason to even watch this game.

Anyone else read that profile and think Johnnie Shuler?

Now that you say it.... Yikes. That's all I see. Johnnie was a great kid, but I think he would have had a far superior career a half step down from the A-10.

Anyone else read that profile and think Johnnie Shuler? Jamir Moultre as well. Both talented guards coming out of HS. Just didn't work out in the college ranks.
