15 hours per week feels high. I’d be slightly more impressed if the application link was for students to apply for a pep band schollie.

I think we did that for the play-in game in Dayton in 2013 That is correct. I don't know if the NCAA covers travel, lodging, & food for the play-in games. If not, it's more understandable than Colgate's stupid decision. It's been since 2013, but I think it's a $75 daily stipend per 'spirit team member'. It's pretty cushy, all things considered. More than enough money for food and adult sodas. But La Salle has done it a bunch of times. Brooklyn also, I believe.

"Rios said that inconsistent attendance is often attributable to poor weather conditions that pose damage to instruments." Isn't that what cases are for? Are they required to parade across campus from class while playing a Sousa march?

Yeah, that dude is dumb. Then again, so is the AD - "We learned of the ‘fake band’ when we saw shots of drummers on the live CBS coverage of the game". That's messed up. And hilarious.
Then again... "When asked if Colgate Athletics could have invited the pep band and only hired nine additional players from Ohio State, Smith declined to comment".

Despite the relative quality and size of the band, Athletics always did right by asking us our availability for breaks and tournaments in advance. If we could not cobble together the right combination due to attendance issues, then they could move on to alternatives. Think A10 requires band rental if you cannot provide one (or at least used to - I did not think to look for this during our 2019 URI game broadcast). I forget all the stipend specifics from 2013, though I do remember there were pretty standardized guidelines from the NCAA to fund the band presence. We rented what I believe was a local La Salle / Christian Brothers' high school band in Dayton (they sounded pretty good in the arena, so that was cool). The band was on the borderline of not having the right makeup/numbers to do the tourney, and after losing to Butler in Brooklyn, the band basically stopped trying to nail down the last couple participants they'd need because they thought we wouldn't get in. With the timing of the play-in game on Wednesday, the band was excited but it was too late to go back and coordinate in time for Dayton no matter what classes / exams would have been at stake - but there was enough time to make it to Kansas City for Friday's game (and a handful of recent alums pitched in).

I forget our per diem in the early 90s...probably $25 or something. I'm fairly certain the NCAA does cover the costs for band and cheerleaders travel since we took a plane instead of a bus to North Carolina in 1992, and there's no way the school would've covered that. COnference tourneys we always took a bus...damn that ride to and from Albany for the MAAC tourney was LOOONNNGGG.

The worst part of any of the conference tourney bus rides for me was having to be packed and ready to go in the 7 o'clock hour due to our 12PM 8-9 game curse.

The worst part for us was that we were SPENDING OUR SPRING BREAK IN ALBANY, NY. Ten years later, we got bounced around from Dayton to Cincy... But at least there was Covington across the way for a Dave and Buster's (21+) and the Kentucky bourbon (21+). The only other real excitement around was when truckloads of Dayton and Xavier fans came in droves to fill up the arenas.

The write-up on La Salle in Money's Annual list of "Best Colleges for Your Money" featured this gem (BOLD added by me for emphasis): money.com/money/best-colleges/profile/la-salle-university/La Salle participates in 25 Division I sports, and students love to support the Explorers: The teams even have a pep band. Off campus, students can head to Center City Philadelphia to eat cheesesteaks, check out Eagles games, and visit art museums.

Did a little more digging....this is on the Athletics Web Site. goexplorers.com/sports/2019/5/8/la-salle-university-pep-band.aspxThe La Salle Pep Band is making a comeback!
After a brief hiatus, the La Salle University Pep Band is actively seeking new members! Under the direction of Chuck Hallahan, the La Salle Pep Band is looking to create a dynamic atmosphere at athletic events beginning in 2019!
For those interested in more information and how to join, please fill out this information page. We will look to have an interest meeting at the start of the Fall 2019 semester.
The La Salle Band is an energetic and unique musical ensemble that performs in a variety of settings both on and off campus. The band is an integral component of the student fan section at all home basketball games at Tom Gola Arena inside TruMark Financial Center.
Academics are top priority for every member of The La Salle Band. Our membership represents students from many academic concentrations, and although the band does maintain an active performance schedule throughout the school year, care is always taken that band activities do not interfere with academic responsibilities.
