I guess this was fake news? Fake news. Thanks for your support. well...since you've already ceded the white-flag for this year on basketball wins in the other thread, I was hoping we could get excited about something at The Gola besides Dollar Dog night.

After that loss to GW, maybe we should have the Pepto Bismol Band for home games.

Do yourselves a favor and actually populate the band with students. Whenever I see the Saint Joe's band, they've all got gray fucking hair. I know some schools allow alumni back once during break or something, but it looks like the band on Hawk Hill is permanently composed of gerrys.

How about a Perp Band? Local juvenile delinquents get to learn some new skills all while being kept off the streets.

I know some schools allow alumni back once during break or something, but it looks like the band on Hawk Hill is permanently composed of gerrys. When I was coming out of high school, St. Joe's actually rented Temple's "C" Band for their games. I had full rides to St. Joe's and La Salle and chose La Salle, in part, because we had a band and St. Joe's didn't, and I wanted to keep playing in college. I remember getting a letter from Brother Tom noting that I had indicated I played in the school band on my admissions application and inviting me to come to the spring concert. (and yeah...we had alums playing with us...especially over breaks..as well as some La Salle high students..some of whom ended up coming to La Salle U and continuing with the band...I like the idea of alums still playing with the band when they can.)

Pep band needs to be student-centric to survive. Help from alums should only add to it. I too remember receiving (and later helping BT prepare) those letters. At a certain point before BT stepped away, getting that admissions-based info became harder, and the jazz band was pushed out of The Attic for admissions events which had been helpful face time with incoming students over the years. Once the pipeline of students dwindled, the pep band was propped up with paid ringers (read: semi-pros who had no affiliation with the university), which I strongly believe was a double-edged sword that first saved and very quickly later ended the pep band.
I'm hopeful the band comes back still at some point soon. But it will take $$ and kids. Way easier said than done.

Spot on. Haven't heard much on this front, obviously, in some months. I don't think the unievrsity's commitment has waned, especially with the intended improvements to Gola coming down the pike, but it was likely realized that a mid-season launch was a pipedream.

There are enough good Philadelphia bands these days that if we get one per home game, we should be more than fine. War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Japanese Breakfast, Hop Along, Strand of Oaks is out of Philly now ... really there are more than enough. Homecoming we can go for a throwback like Roots or Hall & Oates.

Excited for where an argumentative topic with an argumentative group can lead.

You forgot Beach Slang, The Menzingers, Swearin’ and Waxahatchee. The former two aren't really my style, whatever current punk is. Indie punk? I had no idea Waxahatchee was Philly.

ON ESPN+ during the St. Bonaventure game the other night, they showed the band and mentioned this year was the first time in 20 years that the Bonnies had a band. Of course, the same announcers also mentioned that Saul was a transfer from UConn, so I'd take that 20-year statement with a grain of salt.

Gonna give this a bump. If any of you keyboard warriors know of anyone that might be a decent fit, please pass it forward. Not the easiest position to advertise, so any assistance would help.

Wish I had more to share. I was originally very much in the fold, but it looks as if a few months of stagnation has created the obvious dilenation that the desired success of the band's reboot did not include the originally intended alumni support. I had been trading many emails between myself, a staff member, and a faculty member with experience from another school, but silence began a few months back...
Glad they're taking a step forward, but I'm largely disappointed that the band's largest advocates, the former members, have been left in the dark.
