I can't believe you guys are really defending Calipari. We're about one step away from the JoePa truthers appearing. Calipari is just Barry Bonds. He's doing what half the other guys are doing but doing it better and therefore viewed as worse.

Calipari is not a great game coach. He has had teams that have made up about 25% of the NBA first round draft pick for about the past 15 years and he has one championship to show for it. And that was the team with Anthony Davis, who is one of the Top 5 players in the NBA right now and a hell of a player as a freshman. Their alleged best team ever had their lunch taken from them by Wisconsin.
There have been zero times I have watched a Kentucky game and walked away saying "Wow, that team really knows how to get open looks and draws up great timeout plays."

Yeah - obviously I wasn't suggesting Cal..not that he'd come to La Salle. I was more thinking get an up-and-comer who is hungry, can recruit, and can build some excitement.
I was at The Cage (small old gym where they played their games) in '91 (playing in the band) when they beat us by 3 in the NIT opening round...Overton's last game as an Explorer. I remember talking with a guy...probably late 20s or early 30s who was sitting right next to the band...telling me how UMass had sucked for years but their fan base was excited about their young new coach (in his 3rd year at the time) and how he was engaging and energizing and building the program back up.
We need that type of guy.

You think Anthony Davis is Top 5 right now? I might be underestimating him with Top 5, even. He's been insane since Cousins went down. Averaging 28/11 for the year and put up 35/13 in February. Those are MVP numbers in most years, except that Harden is a sick freak and LBJ is having maybe his best year period.

We just need a coach who can sell the next Anthony Davis on La Salle. I don't want to hear about facilities or conference or location or any of that. I'm tired of the excuses and the acceptance of mediocrity. Get a YOUNG and HUNGRY coach who will do whatever it takes. And if that coach can't, have him electively waive his buyout and get a new YOUNG and HUNGRY coach and keep doing that until it works.

Stick around, but acknowledge that showing up and telling a community they’re delusional is a bad start. Are you telling him to ask for forgiveness? Look I think this is way overblown. I see this as a long time reader being frustrated with the fact that people/community can't accept that the HC has at least one and maybe two years left on his contract. Over and Over it's been stated and yet posters continually harp on "is he back?" This person like me is frustrated that people can't come to grips over that fact. Pure and simple it was a "I'm mad (insert frustrated) as hell and can't take it anymore." I have to say that telling someone after his (assume it's a male) second post that it was "unacceptable", that inference that he is calling the community "delusional" (which he didn't those are the moderators words) and now you want him to acknowledge that he is off to a bad start is really over the top. So over the top that I suspect there is more to this story than we know. I don't see what he wrote as that far off target. I don't care if it was his second, or twenty-second or two hundred and twenty-second. He was pointing out that it's a "waste of keystrokes" on THIS matter. It was clean and not profane. He isn't really telling people to stop posting. Now to his comment where he included me as one of three people that shared "inside information". I did nothing of the sort. I don't know what "inside information" he is referring too.I follow basketball very closely and felt that the going rate for a head coach making the Sweet 16 was a nice bump ( to a million or more outside of a La Salle) and probably a 6 year extension to his EXISTING contract. Why 6 years? That is the length of the NCAA unit payout. I am not in a position nor do I want inside information. I have met G twice in the last 18 months. I have spoken with Bill Bradshaw once for about 10 minutes and the other for 30 seconds. I have met the President in person twice I think. Once at her reception in Center City and the other was to briefly chat in the Business School. If speaking with Kale and Brian Quinn a few times at Alumni or Basketball receptions is being an insider than maybe I am guilty. A lot of what I know comes from dealing with people I work with or interact as clients. I have clients who are influential at many schools across the nation and are basketball fans.

I don’t need an apology. Imagine walking into a local political committee meeting and saying ‘You’re wasting your time.’ I wasn’t being combative. I just think if you’re going to sign up, sign up to say something more than that.

I still wonder why this poster is singled out when everyday we read stuff a lot worse than that. We had someone yesterday that posted garbage and all they got was "drivel". I recall now that this individual was using the same screen name on the old SJU (PA) board. He didn't post very often but always defended La Salle. FWIW. I welcome diehardexplorer to the "community" and wish him the best. I hope he does come back and add his thoughts here. We need different points of view and someone with fresh comments.

I have clients who are influential at many schools across the nation and are basketball fans. sorry jellybean. between your fundraising efforts and the handle you seem to have on how the basketball program works, i made the mistake of assuming you might be getting some inside info. but what really convinced me dr g will be back was hideaway's post (there's no doubt in my mind he's connected to someone in the program) which was followed up by the same info from glitter bro who said he is on the alumni board so i have to believe he hears things too. if people want to keep speculating and posting about giannini being let go this year, that's their prerogative but I don't understand regurgitating the same stuff over and over. i'd much rather read about the returning players, incoming recruits, the a10, schedule info, etc. the regurgitation is what led to my keystroke comments which for some reason really struck a nerve with a couple of the moderators. maybe the board is a revenue source for them and less clicks/keystrokes hurts their bottom line. who knows. but it's no skin off my back. i'll just go back to lurking in the background. it's no big deal. thx for going to bat for me.

which was followed up by the same info from glitter bro who said he is on the alumni board so i have to believe he hears things too. No "official" inside info from me. It was asked last year at an Alumni Board meeting but no official answer was provided. Just my surmising what other programs do when their coach is being let go. There seem to be three options as to what will happen: 1) contract expires and they part ways with a press release (like happened with the woman's coach) as soon as the last game is over to start the search process publicly 2) contract gets an extension (I'm guessing we would've heard about that by now, and given the performance post-2013, that would be ridiculous) 3) buyout. given the public information about the University's financial health and how buyouts work (donor funded), option 3 is doubtful unless people want to spearhead a campaign of some sort. My money's on option 1 and I am guessing 2018-2019 is the final season since a 6-year deal seemed most likely after a Sweet 16 run. It's not rocket science. I've been saying that for a while on here, but people somehow seem to think a small private school that recently laid off staff and is selling its art is going to fund two basketball coaches with magical money that drops from the sky.
