I was sort of indifferent to the art sale as I can see it both ways. But the History Department letter swayed me against the sale. I was a History major. The professors I had in that department (John Rossi, Brother Ed., Stewart Leibiger) were fantastic teachers. They were all wonderful mentors who helped me learn to think about the world. I had a few assignments that required me to go to the art museum and to connect a painting with a lesson. If they are against the sale, than I am against it, too.
The one advantage La Salle has over any other school is its teachers. We should probably listen to them.

The one advantage La Salle has over any other school is its teachers. We should probably listen to them. This was my concern. The sale has created an environment of distrust between the faculty and the administration. That relationship needs to be repaired. If the school needs to sell the assets, so be it, but I respect the faculty's opinion on this and can disagree with them on it, but the manner in which it has been done (or...perceived to have been done by the faculty) is what is concerning. Also, I'm buying shin-guards for the history faculty in case durenduren shoes up to kick them after his steel cage match with me and Bobby.

It's still a stupidly redundant letter that didn't need to be sent. That's why god invented the Faculty Senate. There's not one original thought in that letter that hasn't already been said 800 other times.

Surprised to see Br. Burke's picture prominently featured on that page. If I hit the MegaMillions, I'm buying the Walking Maddonna for my yard.

Loud, strange, unidentified, subsurface whirring sound continues to be heard at La Salle Hall Christian Brothers cemetery in Beltsville, MD.

I hear you, but I guess there are people as into the Art Museum as we are into Basketball....and they are upset about the lack of transparency in the decision making.

I hear you, but I guess there are people as into the Art Museum as we are into Basketball....and they are upset about the lack of transparency in the decision making. It's not that they're passionate about the art museum, it's that they're passionate about the university side of the university. Universities typically embrace a more communal decision making process to avoid this stuff, which is why the departmental bloodletting a few years ago went over much better even though it was also way more painful. This decision grates with the people who took a career in academia to avoid the corporate top down governance this decision was undertaken with and who hold the university as a community, and see this as an attack on those bonds regardless of the reasons why. I still see this as a mistake, but I've made my peace with it for now. My only hope is that we won't look back and see this as part of a larger arc of palliative management of the decline of the university.

We should just lay off a boat load of people then. I'm sure they'll change tunes then. Nobody has yet to offer actual alternatives to come up with money, but that English Dept. letter went out of it's way to question that need for money. Bold strategy, Cotton.
University types can be so needy. Glad this place is being ran like a business, not every hard decision needs to be vetted by and receive a blessing from each department.

It was always going to take time to get out of the old way of running things. This is just remnants of a different time/administration.

The English majors are probably out earning the accounting majors $15 to $1. Not like we have one of the best accounting programs in the region, and they all start at what, 55k? Let's trust the ones that know something about numbers.

Let's trust the ones that know something about numbers. Crapping on A&S graduates and faculty is not the most productive direction to move this conversation. None of the Christian Brothers engaged in consecrated life because they believed so deeply in maximizing shareholder value and feeding the unending materialism of modern life.

I mean, the one piece did make over half a million dollars. Even if that's below expectations, that's not chump change for the school.

Anyone know if there a bus trip planned from the campus art museum up to Christie's? I can probably sneak a few road dogs into my backpack. I'll bring some Dutch Masters to enjoy while we view the Dutch masters on display.
