Don't get excited yet. One game at a time. The only way to NCAA's will be to steal the A10 single bid and that almost certainly means beating Dayton again (and/or St Joe's/GW, once). These possibilities exist, but there is a lot of work to be done to win one play-in game at home plus three games in three days at Richmond. There is no "double bye" unlike the men's tourney. There are only two single byes in this tournament, one of which should be Dayton's and the other to St Louis or another team with fewer than La Salle's 4 losses.
On the WNIT front, La Salle's 14-9 record means they now need to go either 6-1 or 6-2 down the stretch to land somewhere on the "bubble" so to speak, and first 20 wins season since 1997. I predict they have a path to 6-2 but in order to do so After losing to GW today, there is no room for error. They even now must steal an upset against either SLU or @sju, and two wins in the conf tournament.
Fordham and @umass and @bona are must wins. You'd like to get one from either @st Joe's or vs St Louis, a split would be nice. Then, the home game in the tourney is a must win no matter what, because the most we'll have then is either 18 or 19 wins and that won't lock up a bid.
In 2016, Southern Illinoiswent to the WNIT missed the WNIT and did the Women's Basketball Invitational (CBI equivalent ) with a 20-12 record and a second round exit in their conf tourney. Their RPI was 144. La Salle is currently at #168 including today's results.
Remaining opponents, with my predictions, are:
W @bona 222
L @ SJU 140
W @ Mass 278
W Fordham 120
W St Louis 109 (18-5)
W vs. A10 playoffs
? A10 playoffs (this would be win #20 to stay in WNIT consideration)
I've edited this post, as Southern Illinois missed the WNIT with 20 wins, and an RPI of 144. Before Fjord's post, I was unaware there was even another tournament.
