Congrats to Speedy for upset at Neumann-Goretti and making the PCL semi-finals against Roman. In a historic year for the Speedman, it is fitting he gets to return to the Palestra.
Looks like Ed Croswell got the better of Marcus Little from Neumann the other night. Seems like Croswell's FT shooting has improved as the season progressed.
Roman doesn't have much height but is extremely quick and active around the glass. It will be interesting to see how he does in the old barn.

I’ve seen Little a few times this year and have not been impressed. It will be interesting to follow his career at GW. Looking forward to seeing Croswell who I haven’t seen much.

This past weekend, Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, NY) defeated Cardinal Hayes (Bronx, NY) to win the CHSAA NY Diocesean title. A couple of La Salle offer recipients led the way for them: Senior Allan Griffin had 29 points with 11 rebounds. Sophomore RJ Davis had 22 points and 5 assists.
Griffin's younger brother AJ is a freshman on the team. They're both sons of former Seton Hall and NBA standout Adrian Griffin.

Verbal commits indicates that Alan Griffin (noted above) signed with Illinois. Not sure its a big loss. We need low post help next year.

Verbal commits indicates that Alan Griffin (noted above) signed with Illinois. Not sure its a big loss. We need low post help next year. We have three low post players coming to La Salle next year. We definitely need a guard or two especially with all the uncertainty and losing BJ. Funny I was just looking at zagblogs where they have a article on Griffin. They mention Minnesota, Xavier and more P5 school. In reality his final three came down to Illinois, La Salle and another non-P5 school that slips my mind now but I'll try to find. My point is don't believe some of these blogs and recruiting experts who have a bias towards the big guys. I see where Putnam Science Academy (35-4) is the #1 seed in this week's National Prep Championships held at Connecticut College. The Putnam stats are as hard to get. I found some disjointed stats on Osun Osunniyi. They had him averaging 10.6 in 15 games with a high of 20. He was averaging 7.5 rebounds. He had 16 blocks in 6 games mentioned which was 2.7 per game.

I've been trying to follow Osun's progress too. Occasionally there are good links to him on the New England Recruiting report. As with a lot of our bigs, he is raw and work in progress. Our bigs don't seem to progress that much over four years. One reason could be that I rarely see them playing in the summer Philly leagues - perhaps they take the summer off. Why not pay Lionel to tutor our bigs for a week or two at LaSalle during the summer + sign them up in the Philly summer leagues? Or, there are a number of "big man" summer camps out there. We need a "dominating big"......not just a big. Every team has a big.

We need a "dominating big"......not just a big. Every team has a big. Paying Lionel, or anybody, to work with your players, is a clear violation of NCAA rules. The NCAA now gives coaches time in the summer to work with guys. The only guys who are supposed to work with your guys are the head coach and 3 assistants. DOBO's, Video guys, they are not supposed to. Pete Newell used to run a big time big man camp but it wasn't easy to score an invite and unfortunately Newell is deceased - and to my knowledge no one took the ball and ran with it. High profile college guys can work the Nike camps - Chris Paul, Lebron James camps, etc. They get great instruction there too apparently - don't need to be a Nike school either (didn't Ramon go to one of these). Unfortunately, they don't really have one for bigs to my knowledge. And finding good coaches for bigs is tough. The best thing is try to get to some of the guys to HoopGroup or 5 Star or Hoop Mountain camps to work and see if they can latch onto a coach there who will help them out. The problem with that is then guys can't really take summer classes if they work multiple weeks, and summer classes are crucial so guys have a lighter academic load during the season which spans both semesters.

Thanks hoopsguest for your great insight. Let me add that people trash TGA all the time BUT the NBA players love it during the Summer. Why? Because it is air conditioned and La Salle treats them great. Our guys are on campus for a majority of the time that these pro's are playing pick up games or working on their game/skills. There is a lot of interaction.
Also, Summer league games limit one player per school to a team. Yes our guys and all the locals play in Summer leagues around the area.
Pete Newell camp was something you had to get an invite AND pay your own expenses AND registration fee.
I know that in the past some of our players work out with local ex-players as trainers in the Summer.

A friend sent me a message saying that Osun was voted Defensive Player of the Year. He also averages 2.1 blocks per game.
Also PIAA brackets are out. Interesting possible match up in 5A. Bron Holland's Bangor HS was 22-3 and #2 in District 11. If his team wins and Archbishop Carrol wins their first games, they will meet. That should be a very interesting contest.
Roman lost to Lincoln HS and PW lost to Abington. Roman and PW could meet in Second Round. St. Joe Prep could meet Abington in the Second Round. All games in 6A.

I see we offered Eric Dixon out of Abington some time ago. He looks like a quite a talent per his video on verbal commits. Lots of high majors after him. He's been to Rutgers on visits twice. Anyone have info on whether we have a chance to land this guy?

Don't know much difference it (now) makes, but here's an NERR update about the National Prep Championship :
Putnam Science won its quarterfinal game. Osun Osunniyi had 14 points (tied for 2nd leading scorer) Tilton School won its quarterfinal. Max Zegarowski had 23 points. His higher recruited brother Marcus had 27. As far as I know, MZ has only one scholarship offer from Quinnipiac. IMO we should be all over him.
BTW, Putnam and Tilton could only meet in the finals. The semis are today.

"Obviously, we’d rather be 27-0 than 23-5, but I feel like we’re in a good spot." Dixon's not going to be a math major, I'm guessing.

RJ Davis was again a major contributor with 20 points. It's worth keeping an eye on him, as more high-major offers are sure to roll in. La Salle did offer him early, during his freshman year. He was offered by St. John's last week.

Dixon squares off against La Salle signee Ed Croswell and St. Joe's Prep tonight. Dixon is going high major but we may have gotten a similar player in Croswell.

Dixon and his Abington Ghosts got the better of Croswell and his Hawks last night. Dixon outscored Croswell 16 to 9 but shot only 5 for 19 from the field. Croswell played much of the game with foul trouble and scored only 1 point in the 2nd half. Neither of them, it appears, was dominant and more or less cancelled each other out.
I believe Coach G attended the game. Maybe he offered Heath from Abington (I forget his first name, but I think his father is Rip Heath) who scored 27 and has not been highly recruited.

Neshaminy H.S. 6'-4", 190 lbs senior guard Chris Arcidiacano poured in 53 points Wednesday to carry the Redskins into the PIAA Class 6A quarterfinals with an 88 - 87 triumph over Lower Merion in double overtime.

I believe Coach G attended the game. Maybe he offered Heath from Abington (I forget his first name, but I think his father is Rip Heath) who scored 27 and has not been highly recruited. I attended the game the other night. Great HS atmosphere. Crowd was 2/3's in Abington's favor. Loud and hot in the gym. Both teams are similar in that they each have four guards and a 6-7 "center". Both are guard dominate. Lots of 3's and in Prep's case not a lot of looks at Croswell. A friend sitting next to me said the Prep guards never looked at feed Croswell when he was in position down low to score the first 5 possessions. I had heard that this Prep team is guard first (that's being kind). It did get better for Croswell later. As for foul trouble limiting Croswell, I didn't see it. Yes he pulled back a little but not much. He got a foul fifteen seconds into the game. He picked up his third with about 1:10 left in the first half. He only sat out a little over a minute in the first half. He left the game with :55 seconds when Speedy threw up the white flag. Croswell played 30 of the 32 minutes. As for the game, it was a great measuring stick for EC versus Dixon. Croswell is about the same height but little lighter. Noticeably less developed in thighs and calves. In boxing terms, Dixon won a unanimous decision on points but nowhere near a TKO. Croswell battled and for majority of time held his own. The stat line says that Dixon had 16 pts., 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Croswell had 9 pts.,4 rebounds and 2 blocks. What got little press was Croswell was a major reason that Dixon shot 5-19 from the floor. Dixon and his "advisor/father" for some reason want to showcase that he can shoot 3's. So he was 0-4 from out there. That means Dixon was 5-15 in the block. I take that as a win from Croswell. Dixon also scored at least 2 FT's and maybe another one or two in the last minute when Prep was fouling (they had already thrown in the towel). Croswell was not in the game at that point. Croswell was guard a couple of years ago before a growth spurt. That means he has an outside shot AND can put the ball on the floor. I think he can surprise people when he blows by a defender from outside the arc. Looks to me he can score down low with both hands. I always look to see FT touch. He was 1-2. People who have seen him more than me say he has improved there even since December. Better days are ahead for him. His demeanor reminds me of Miles Brookins a lot. The Prep Assistant were constantly screaming at him ( no one else which is odd). He never once showed any emotion. Listened. Took it and went out to play. I am sure that will get comments here. I would like to see him continue to get stronger. Dixon did back him in a couple of times and tried to out muscle him. Again Croswell did not back down. He just needs to get bigger and more physical. As mentioned before G was there as was Pappy. They were there to see Croswell but also Abington's Lucas Monroe from what I was told. Monroe is a 6-4 guard/wing who has a nice left-handed jumper. Can drill them from three but also can blow by you and hammer it home (which he did twice against SJP). In this game, he was basically the point guard. He did an outstanding job. I think it raised his stock. I believe he has Colgate and some Ivy League school interested. He is a Junior. Couple of final thoughts. La Salle is not involved with Dixon at this point. Has a final 3 I was told. Since this game was guard dominated and lots of 3's (also it appeared both teams shot a decent percentage), there were not a lot of rebounds for the two big guys. Lots of long rebounds.

Thanks for the report, JB. Do you think that EC can play away from the basket with another big? I thought that Prep had a transfer in the 6'9" range from Eastern High in NJ who would be paired with Croswell to prepare him for that role. One fear I have is that G will plant him and all of his young bigs on the block and have them back down their man ala J. Wright. While I loved Jerrel he never developed beyond what he brought into the program as a one handed bruiser. Brookins showed he can hit a jumper from the foul line. Today's game demands that big guys have some sort of face the basket game.

I have not seen enough of Croswell to give a good answer. I think because he recently grew (last two years) that he has skills that could allow him to play some away from the basket. I don't see him strictly in the block. He did have some good inside moves and I think scored with both hands. I would expect that Croswell gives us similar production as Miles did this year. Like Miles I think he'll need a year in college to see a major jump. Best days ahead for him as well as the other recruits. This class is all about potential where they take their good skills and see them improve and mature into very good or excellent ones. The transfer big is a major project in my opinion. He only played a minute the other night. I understand that Columbia was interested.

Not that it matters much but I was told officially that Croswell has 2 more rebounds than the INKY article said plus 2 steals and 2 assists.

Neshaminy H.S. senior guard Chris Arcidiacano ended his high school career with 35 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 21 of 23 from the free throw line, while being double and at times triple teamed, in the Redskins 77 - 70 loss to the Lincoln H.S. Railsplitters Saturday afternoon at Archbishop Ryan's gym.
Arcidiacano averaged more than 25 ppg his senior year, and scored approx. 1100 pts in his junior and senior years alone. He had scored only 201 total pts as of the end of his sophomore season.
Arcidiacano thus far has received six D-1 scholarship offers: E. Kentucky, Quinnipiac, Mt. Saint Mary's, Rider, Delaware and Presbyterian, but this list may grow before the upcoming Spring 2018 NCAA NLI signing period in April.
Can you say " BlueHensMartinInglesbyRyanDaly " ?

Why didn't we recruit Sam Sessoms who was 2nd on the PA scoring list (Arcidiacono was 3rd) but only committed to Binghamton???
